Re: Howie's Speakeasy - "Come on in"
Reg wants to hold the cultist down and get some answers from him. Does he need a grapple roll to keep him pinned down? If so, since Marius already has him down, is there some bonus to the roll? Since Reg is much better at punching than grappling, I'd rather roll for that; can the same result be reached by punching again? The suspected cultist, battered by Reginald and Marius' blows, attempts to flee. As he turns, Reginald swings again but the man pulls away and the bookdealer's fist hits only air!
Marius yells and leaps for the man, tackling him at the waist. He falls to the ground with Marius in a tangle of limbs.
How do we know you're not a donkey-brained man?

With the cultist already down from Marius, you can double your grapple attack chance. The punch and grapple are different actions/rolls.

Gonna see if Reg gets any skill increases from his interaction with the cultist so far:
Increase punch skill? (58) [1d100] = 64
Punch skill increase [1d8] = 4
Increase spor hidden skill? (50) [1d100] = 3 Nope.
Increase persuade skill? (41) [1d100] = 17 Darn.

There is no public payphone nearby. They tend to be in train stations, bus and taxi areas, and in high traffic areas.SocraticLawyer wrote:

Re: Howie's Speakeasy - "Come on in"
In acknowledgement of the humans' sacred solstice celebration, a cultist carol transcribed by the HP Lovecraft Historical Society based on a popular holiday song...
Silent Night, Blasphemous Night,
People quake at the sight
Monsters rising from Deep R'lyeh
People screaming 'please go away'
Great Cthulhu has come
Great Cthulhu has come
Silent Night, Blasphemous Night,
Great Ones reign, Death's in sight
Horrid beasts enslaving mankind
Cosmic terror destroying your mind
We're all going to die
We are all going to die
Silent night, blasphemous Night,
All is wrong, all tonight.
'Round Shub Niggurath and her spawn,
Hellish infants all malformed and wrong
Sleep with nightmarish dreams;
Sleep with nightmarish dreams.
Merry Christmas

Please welcome Greywolf (not to be confused with GreyWolfVT) to the investigation as Prof. Baba Balandabar, ancient languages scholar. Another brave soul to help in the descent!

Welcome, Greywolf!
“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad."
"How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat," or you wouldn’t have come here.”

Re: Howie's Speakeasy - "Come on in"
Hi Greywolf, yes this is some background about him. Feel free to make of it what you like. It does establish you have dabbled in the occult, and know some of Endymion/Selene/Latmos.Greywolf wrote:
Is this about something that happened to Dr. Balandabar?
Concerning Prof. Baba Balandabar
London, U.K.
February, 1919
During all of this his British uncle dies, a golf course stroke at St. Andrews, just short of turning 65. The pulmonary guns fire everything they’ve got into a popping strobe-lit heaven, emptying the chambers. A second dad to him, after his own died in the avalanche, and opened his Shooters Hill London home to him.
That flashback is by Alan Moore, from Unearthing. As I mentioned early on in the OOC thread, I've used Alan Moore content directly or in inspiration at several points. Often the dream sequences.

Thanks for the welcome. I will have to get in over my head ... at least before I lose my head.
Re: Howie's Speakeasy - "Come on in"
I'm going to be sporadic this next week at least. I need to prepare for classes, and my wife is due to deliver any day now!
