Yeah DCC isn't really a similar kind of game to this except for some of the tone similarities (gritty, sometimes bleak).GreyWolfVT wrote:well I had fiddled around in skills and tried to change a few I felt I did not want. But I defer to the experience of those here who have actually played TB & BW as I have not played either unless DCC is considered one that type of game.

Re: OOC Discussion
DCC was kinda freaky starting in a game of lvl 0's I had to play 4 characters but yeah i was down to 2 in a very short time, and then 1.

Re: OOC Discussion
Ah yes, "the funnel". An interesting innovation I would say it takes the exact opposite approach to low-level characters that this game does. Same level of danger, but whereas DCC lowers your initial investment in each character with the expectation that they will die die die, TB increases initial investment and makes the process of nearly-inevitable death take much longer so you can get more out of it.

Re: OOC Discussion
"The Funnel" eh more like the PC "Meat Grinder" based upon my experience.

Re: OOC Discussion
Yeah, I would say funnel is not a very good analogy considering that the whole idea of a funnel is to make sure everything gets in and the level-0 in DCC is to make sure you successfully weed out the inadequate while giving the merely-adequate an adventure to jump start their careers. But it's the term they use!
My first DCC campaign we started with 15 level-0 characters and at the end I actually had 3 of mine left and got to pick which to keep and which to hand off to players who'd lost all of theirs, muahaha.

Sometimes I'll have more time than other times, but I'm sure that's true for all of us.

Re: OOC Discussion
it is likely to change in about a week or so for me as I start a new job on october 20th. So might not be allowed to post on here at work other than on my galaxy player. So might be less of an issue once I am in a job that has a lot more to offer and keep me busy

Looking at what you changed...GreyWolfVT wrote:well I had fiddled around in skills and tried to change a few I felt I did not want. But I defer to the experience of those here who have actually played TB & BW as I have not played either unless DCC is considered one that type of game.
Manipulator 3 -> Pathfinder 3
Scholar 2 -> Survivalist 2
Okay, not all of this is mechanically possible within the context of the rules. So let's go about trying to make this happen.
Scholar 2 is tied to Home: Religious Bastion. It's something Horris learned while growing up.
Manipulator 3 is, mechanically speaking, Horris' chosen Social Grace (out of Haggler, Manipulator, Orator, or Persuader), and also his Specialty (+1 to a chosen skill, or rank 2 for a new skill).
If Horris hails from Elfland, then he can pick up Pathfinder at rank 2. You can also choose Survivalist at rank 2 as a Specialty skill. You then would have to opt for a Social Grace (either keeping Manipulator at rank 2, buffing Orator (an innate Dwarf skill) to rank 3, or choosing one of the other social skills at rank 2).
Elfland would also change your Trait - Scarred 1 to either Calm 1 or Quiet 1. I don't think Quiet 1 will work
...
Of course, Elfland is not a very Dwarf-y place for a Dwarf to come from.
If you choose to be from the Dwarven Halls, then you can buff Armorer or Laborer, OR take Stonemason at rank 2. You'd also switch Trait- Scarred to either Cunning or Fiery.
These are all ideas.
You don't NEED any one skill. My job, ideally, is to be like the Dark Side Tree on Dagobah. What you will face in the Dungeon is only that which you take with you. I shouldn't force you to test things that you don't have (although you may OPT to do things beyond your abilities from time to time). I should not force you all to complete a skill check for which you have no skill.
This doesn't mean you won't face impossible situations, but those will hopefully be character-based (Belief and Instinct) rather than mechanical (skill-based).

You also can opt for any 1 Social skill. Either Buff your existing Orator skill to 3 (i.e. big darn speeches), or gain another skill at rank 2 amongst: Haggler, Manipulator, or Persuader.
You can also opt for 1 Specialty skill. I guess I will assign it to Pathfinder, then, since you were interested in it before.
...
We have a Survivalist specialist (Erinas the Ranger). Simon chose Scavenger. I need to figure out what Marodin's specialty is...

Social Skill Haggler. But does that mean I cannot get pathfinder?

Can we post in the OOC World Building thread or is that GM only territory?
