I'm not exactly keen on being from a religious temple myself but that is where I have been told twice is where a dwarf would be from ... i just can't come up with a reason as for why.

EDIT: Has anyone directed you to the free PDF of the first chapter of Torchbearer? Might not be of that much help for PC creation but might help you wrap your brain around the concepts.

Have we discussed what everyone's Specialty Skill is going to be? These are skills that only one PC per party can specialize in.
I'm too lazy to find the post from our other TB game but there are a few that are fairly important. Cook and Healer were the ones I think are the most critical.
I'm going to take Cook, if no one objects. I think it's a nice little wrinkle for my PC, that he used to help out in the kitchen when he was but a wee Acolyte. Perhaps a reminder to remain humble in the face of the gods.

My elf is a Survivalist specialist (3).
I have Cook at 2, however, as well.

Aaaaand, I would also recommend that someone take cartographer even if it's not their specialization.

Marodin has Cartographer 2 and Pathfinder 3.
I will switch from Cook to Healer. We'll say that Marodin had to see to the poor and elderly in the villages around the Temple every week. Lancing boils and pulling rotten teeth will keep a Man humble, I reckon.

Marodin wants to get on stage and convert entire villages at once, by the Book.
I like the Orator/Theologian v. Persuader/Lore Master feel.

Story-wise, there is a religious theme, but you don't need to stay on that. Let me flesh out the world, along with everyone's ideas, and then you can pick what you like... but say what you like. What do you think your Dwarf is about? What makes him tick? What drives him to go on adventure, and what makes him valuable on an adventure?
D&D lets you figure that out after you roll dice. It's the opposite with Torchbearer.

hrm well we shall have to correct that then I like just playing I do all the role play as I see my character not sure if anyone is able to tell me what my beliefs are I just know how I like to play my dwarves. Pragmatic might just be how I think.

How do you see a Dwarf? What makes a Dwarf different to you?
Maybe a discussion of Nature (Dwarf) in Torchbearer can also help us here.
What is Nature?
In Torchbearer, Nature tells you how strongly your character is typical of his or her race, but it's more than that. It's a store of inner strength that can push you through difficult times. You can use it up, and drain you, like Bilbo Baggins in Rivendell, feeling like butter scraped too thin over toast. Or you can become overwhelmed by too much of your Nature... a Dwarf who exceeds the maximum Nature will go mad with Greed, and seal himself off in his Dwarven Halls, clutching his hoard of treasures so that no-one can ever steal a single copper piece from him.
Descriptors... Descriptors tell you what you can do with Nature and not drain your Nature "pool".
Humans are the classic Secondborn-type of Tolkien. Nature (Human) is defined by Boasting, Demanding, and Running. They are the ones who demand to lead everything, and are in a hurry to do whatever they talk about. They have little patience for the Elder races.
For a Dwarf, Nature is defined by Delving, Crafting, and Avenging Grudges. Vengeance is actually very Dwarven in the Burning Wheel, right after Swearing Oaths. (However, Torchbearer Dwarves are Adventurers, and usually they are exempt from Oaths since Adventurers (who choose to stray far from the Mountain Halls) are rather queer amongst Dwarven people).
Anything a Dwarf does that fits into Nature, you can replace your Skill or Ability rank with your Nature rank. That's what Nature does... it can give you a huge boost if you need it.

well I had fiddled around in skills and tried to change a few I felt I did not want. But I defer to the experience of those here who have actually played TB & BW as I have not played either unless DCC is considered one that type of game.

This prologue section has been pretty good for getting a feel for the various characters quickly before we get to the meat of the adventure. I like all of them so far.
