Vik breathes a sigh of relief that the verminous minions of the catacombs do not appear to be coming after them since they fell back to the stairwell.

"Well, that's at least some kind o' boon," the young churl-deputy opines, keeping his voice low so that it won't echo throughout the ancient complex. "Being as we's low on light sources, are we really gonna be resting down here? Not saying I'm no scaredy cat of a few rats n' all but it be awful dark down here! Shouldn't we head back upstairs instead?"

Vik looks over at Osric nervously before turning to his mates to see what they think.

The fellow ship stands and the bottom of the stair contemplating options on whether to return or go forward.

Scy seems to stiffen for a second then relax into a defensive stance. He readies his sword as he stares off into the darkness from whence they came.

"Weapons free," he whispers, "something approaches..."

Vik pulls his sword and readies his shield as he struggles to swallow the lump of fear and dread in his throat...

walking into the outer edge of your torch light enters a terrifying figure.

A dried husk of a corpse with rotted black robes, it comes to stop and you see pin points of light suddenly appear in its once black eye sockets as the thing seems to crack a wicked grin.

"What matter of creature are you.... what's your business here?" Scy asks cautiously before committing to the attack.

Cilian nervously whispers, "We should be careful about letting this thing touch us..."

with a sound much like tearing paper the thing opens its mouth, it's dried lips flaking it lets out a horse raspy whisper.

and charges forward with unearthly speed.

"It's undead, Os!" Cilian cries out as he steps back to give the fighters the room they need to fight.

Scy utters a curse as he unleashes his long sword on the creature - "Foul breath of the earth - die!"
