Chpt. 1 Background/Introduction
Re: Chpt. 1 Background/Introduction
Gwennethel, Elf Druid
Gwennethel sees that the two kobolds are dead that were coming into the room with the secret door. The others all seem to be advancing on Freddie outside the cave. She sheaths her sword & draws an arrow while moving forward towards the door to the hallway. She begins a silent prayer to Corellon to help her arrows fly true.
To Hit [1d20+1] = 19+1 = 20; Dmg [1d6] = 5
Gwennethel continues praying silently and shoots a second arrow.
To Hit [1d20+1] = 14+1 = 15; Dmg [1d6] = 1

Re: Chpt. 1 Background/Introduction
As he withdraws his spear from the lifeless kobold, Adel closes his eyes. "Thank you for my true aim, Enki. If it pleases your will, let your blessings continue to guide my unworthy hands."
Assuming the outside kobolds are still blinded, Adel aims and throws a spear at a kobold. If for some reason a kobold charges, he will set the spear against the charge.

Trendt acts like he does not even feel the pain of the hit he just took and takes another swing at the kobold on him now. Footman's Mace Hit[1d20+1] = 12+1 = 13 Damage[1d6+2] = 2+2 = 4

Re: Chpt. 1 Background/Introduction
Round 3!!
Northwest Room Initiative Rolls:
[1d6] = 5 - Party
[1d6] = 1 - Monsters
Party wins!
Rubesca the cleric knows she is about to die. She cries out to Dakara for help as she turns to run from the kobold that has slashed her cut open, hoping to make a safe escape. Dakara aims her sling directly at the kobold that is attacking Rubesca and lets a bullet fly.
To Hit [1d20] = 19; Dmg [1d4+1] = 1+1 = 2
A square shot to the eye sends the kobold reeling backward as Rubesca makes her escape.
Corun the ranger tries to finish off the kobold he faces.
To Hit [1d20+1] = 9+1 = 10; Dmg [1d8] = 2
He curses violently as he misses.
Coppish fires two arrows at two different kobolds.
To hit: [1d20+4] = 8+4 = 12, damage with bow: [1d6] = 1
To hit: [1d20+4] = 3+4 = 7, damage with bow: [1d6] = 4
Both arrows fly too high, Rubesca's running having distracted him.
Sammy swings his massive sword again and misses his mark, the kobold cleverly ducking low.
[1d20+1] = 2+1 = 3 to hit [1d10+1] = 10+1 = 11 damage
Merthyr loses a bit of focus as he swings his sword, missing the kobold as it jumps back.
Bastard sword to hit: [1d20+1] = 10+1 = 11, damage vs S/M opp: [2d4+2] = 4+2 = 6
Trendt the dwarf swings his mace, focusing too much to feel the pain from his wound.
Footman's Mace Hit[1d20+1] = 12+1 = 13 Damage[1d6+2] = 2+2 = 4
His aim is true and his mace throws the dead kobold's corpse backward.
Three kobolds are left fighting.
One takes a swing at Corun, growing nervous.
To Hit [1d20] = 5; Dmg [1d6] = 5
The kobold loses his nerve and misses, turning to run back into the room to the west.
Another kobold swings its blade at Sammy.
To Hit [1d20] = 2; Dmg [1d6] = 4
It too misses its mark and grows too afraid to continue the battle, turning on its heel to follow his brother back into the western most room.
The third kobold thinks he's luckier than the rest and dares a swing at Merthyr.
To Hit [1d20] = 3; Dmg [1d6] = 1
The kobold's eyes go wide with fear as it turns to run, following the other two kobolds.
In the room with the secret door & outside of the cave:
Initiative rolls:
[1d6] = 1 - Party
[1d6] = 6 - Monsters
Monsters win!!
It is clear the kobolds stuck in the cave entrance are tired of getting sprayed by skunks and decide to try to head out of there by turning back around. They begin screaming at one another in kobold, which nobody here can understand. Two kobolds start heading to the north and two head to the south while the others are pushing and screaming. The two kobolds closest to Freddie are backing away into the cave with one hand over their eyes, the other hand holding their weapons.
Gwydion warns the others to get back behind the table for cover as he sees the kobolds on the move, not sure of their intentions. He's ready to strike any kobold that comes into the room, but sees them going off in different directions, clearly not wanting to fight. It is then that he begins to smell the stench of the skunks from outside slowly creeping into the cave as a slight breeze has picked up outside, just happening to blow in a westerly direction, which happens to be good for Freddie the Fop.
Llewellyn takes Gwydion's advice and gets behind the table, unable to see exactly what is going on outside the room.
Instead of heading for cover behind the table, Gwennethel dares another two shots with her bow, deciding that being outnumbered just isn't a good idea right now.
To Hit [1d20+1] = 19+1 = 20; Dmg [1d6] = 5
To Hit [1d20+1] = 14+1 = 15; Dmg [1d6] = 1
She sends two small prayers to Corellon, her deity, as she lets her arrows fly, each one hitting their mark. Two kobolds fall dead, but they weren't the ones that were trying to run north or south.
Adel has withdrawn his spear from the body of the dead kobold before him and sends a prayer of thanks to his deity, Enki, hoping for more success. He takes aim at the kobolds in the cave entrance and throws his spear.
Spear attack (THAC0 20) [1d20] = 15, damage sm/m [1d6+0.5] = 3+0 = 3
The spear strikes one of the last two kobolds behind the front line outside and it falls over dead.
Biblo remains behind the table with Llewellyn, ready to light the oil on fire if any kobolds run into the room.
Two kobolds looked a lot tougher than they truly were, apparently some deity or another stepping in to answer prayers. At that precise moment, there seems to arise another evil. A 2' diameter spider drops from the ceiling, apparently called out of its hole and attracted to the noise! It lands atop the last kobold behind the front line and attacks it, feeling a need to end the noise and have dinner in one.
[1d20] = 19
The spider catches the kobold in its vicious grasp and delivers a nasty bite. The kobold screams in pain and fear, but still lives, though he falls to his knees and buckles underneath the weight of the spider, trying to fight back.
To Hit [1d20] = 2; Dmg [1d4] = 3
The severely weakened kobold pokes his rusty dagger at thin air as he continues screaming for someone to help him, but his friends have decided to run away. The party members watch in horror as the spider begins to eat the kobold alive! The stench from the skunks begins moving into the room, though it isn't too strong. It is only enough to make them wrinkle their noses in serious disgust.
Outside of the cave, the skunks have stopped spraying as they see the kobolds retreating. Freddie has turned his attention away from the kobolds, but the two left nearest him are moving back into the cave, blinded by the skunks. They no longer have any interest in fighting and the kobold population inside seems to be dwindling quickly.
Freddie sees the source of the jingling as it comes flying at him.
The voice is shrill. "OH FREDDIE! Oh, thank the gods you're safe!" Chubby arms quickly go around his neck as she squeezes him tightly, pawing at him frantically. "I prayed for you, my love. I did! I see the gods have answered my prayers! Oh, Freddie, please! Don't fight these demons anymore! They're too dangerous. Come away with me and we can be together! I'll keep you safe, my beautiful elf. We can get married and I'll cook for you every day! Please, Freddie, don't get yourself killed!"

"Thank you Enki!" exclaims Adel as his spear hits its mark. He then looks to the elven folk beside him "Gwenn, Gwyd, I left my lantern with the wordsmith and can't see in the dark. Can one of you track the two kobolds heading south to determine where they came from? There must be a secret door in that room."
Realizing the spider may regard him as its next meal, Adel pulls another spear from the large quiver slung across his back and throws it at the feasting arachnid.

To Hit [1d20] = 14; Dmg [1d6] = 4
Gwennethel then pulls out her rope to hog tie the stinking kobold.

Breaks from Jenn's embrace. Not now my love, my colleagues are in peril. Wait here for me. The cave is far to dangerous for one as lovely as you.

Round 4!!
In the northwest room:
Initiative rolls:
Initiative [1d6] = 6 - Party
[1d6] = 1 - Monsters
Party wins!
The kobolds are fleeing in a desperate attempt to escape, but Trendt the dwarven cleric rushes one before he can move and swings his mace with an ancient dwarven battle cry.
Footman's Mace Hit[1d20+1] = 13+1 = 14 Damage[1d6+2] = 3+2 = 5
The kobold is smashed down before he even knows what hit him, fallen dead at the dwarf's feet.
Trendt mentions that someone should go check up on the others, but no one has complied yet. Rubesca weakly says that she will as long as she can obtain some healing.
Sammy the barbarian and Merthyr the half elf rush after the remaining two kobolds. Coppish the elven fighter/thief takes another two shots at them as they run.
To hit: [1d20+4] = 17+4 = 21, damage with bow: [1d6] = 1
To hit: [1d20+4] = 7+4 = 11, damage with bow: [1d6] = 6
One arrow hits its mark, injuring a running kobold and giving him a limp while the other flies overhead into the next room beyond.
Sammy grabs a torch from the wall before following the two kobolds and Merthyr is right on his heels. They both enter a room that is lit by three torches on the walls. It is 20' x 30' with an open hall in the southernmost part of the western wall, apparently leading into another area that the kobolds are trying to get into. This room looks like the last one and there is a beaten up old wooden table in the center of the room, surrounded by six beaten up, old wooden chairs. There looks to be nothing of interest in here.
Corun the ranger is hot on the kobold's heels and takes a swing with his long sword.
To Hit [1d20+1] = 18+1 = 19; Dmg [1d12] = 4
The kobold falls prone, quite dead.
Dakara the cleric holds off on helping the greatly injured Rubesca, taking another shot at the last of the fleeing kobolds with her sling.
To Hit [1d20] = 11; Dmg [1d4+1] = 1+1 = 2
The sling bullet flies into the wall to the right and pings off, ricocheting into the next room and hitting nothing. She jumps down from the table to help her fellow cleric. She takes a moment to heal Rubesca as the cleric seems too injured to heal herself at the moment.
Cure Light Wounds - [1d8] = 6
Rubesca instantly feels completely rejuvenated as her large wound magically closes and she is given back complete health. She thanks her friend and says she will check up on the others, rushing out of the room to the north, where she backs the mule up into the room beyond before heading east.
One kobold remaining and fleeing further west. Sammy is close enough to strike at it.
In the room with the secret door and outside of the cave:
Biblo the illusionist yells for someone to take a kobold as a prisoner for questioning while the spider deftly kills and eats one, four flee in two different directions, and two others are backing into the cave, blinded by skunk spray.
Adel the monk thanks his deity, Enki, for allowing such success thus far, then realizes the spider may become a real issue. He throws another spear directly at the spider.
Spear attack (THAC0 20) [1d20] = 17, damage sm/m [1d6+0.5] = 6+0 = 6
The spear hits its mark and, with a strange high-pitched screeching sound, the spider crumples up as death overtakes it. Enki has smiled upon the monk this day.
Gwydion the elf runs by the now dead spider to attack the remaining kobold that is backing into the cave. He catches a serious wiff of what's driving them back as he attacks with sword and dagger.
To hit: [1d20+2] = 10+2 = 12, damage with sword: [1d8+2] = 3+2 = 5
To hit: [1d20-1] = 4-1 = 3, damage with dagger: [1d4+2] = 4+2 = 6
Apparently, the smell has gotten to him as he misses with both strikes. He finds the stench strong and nauseating.
Gwennethel the elven druid rushes out of the room and catches hold of another kobold's hand as he backs into the cave, completely blindsided by her as well as the skunk spray. She has him by his sword arm and swings him around to face her, bringing her knee up into the little monster's groin, hoping that his "stuff" is in the right place
To Hit [1d20] = 14; Dmg [1d6] = 4
The kobold drops his sword and falls to his knees as the she-elf pulls her rope out of her pack and begins to hog-tie him. He gives her no problems, but groans loudly in obvious pain, his mind taken off of the stench blowing into the cave.
100% subdual damage! Kobold has completely surrendered. 25% actual damage taken - kobold also quite injured.
Freddie the Fop is waylaid by Jenn the bellydancer and takes but a moment to steal her earring, failing in his haste to go after the kobold that is retracting into the cave. Jenn catches her earring as it begins to fall and Freddie apologizes for being clumsy, to which she simply smiles and tells him it's OK. He tells her to wait for him there and rushes after the kobold with his short sword, but Jenn is hopelessly in love and as stubborn as a dwarf. She is also worried that Freddie might not survive if she leaves him alone, believing herself to be his "good luck charm".
Freddie slashes at the last kobold in the cave entrance, clearly at a great advantage as it covers its eyes.
[1d20+1] = 11+1 = 12 Damage [1d6] = 4 +1 bonus for blinded kobold.
He makes a direct hit, felling the creature on the spot!
Four kobolds remain, two fleeing north and two fleeing south.
Jenn refuses to follow any orders and stubbornly follows Freddie into the cave, keeping close by his side. She is surprised by both the skunk stench and the dead "demons" and spider inside the cave. "Wow! You guys have done really well! I will keep praying as you go along with this suicide mission of yours. I can't let you go in there alone, Freddie my love. I have to protect you. I could never forgive myself if something happened to you."
Adel has asked Gwennethel and Gwydion to watch the kobolds going south to see where they go. Gwydion turns to watch them carefully while Gwennethel keeps a watch over her new prisoner.
The skunks outside see nothing left to do and go back to their happy foraging.

Actions for Round 5!!
In the northwest room:
Initiative rolls:
Initiative [1d6] = 6 - Party
[1d6] = 1 - Monsters

Re: Chpt. 1 Background/Introduction
Gwennethel – Elf Druid
Gwennethel tells Freddie "We need to stay together. Show us where the rest of the party is so we can join up again."
Gwennethel drags the smelly Kobold in the room to Biblo so that he can question him and tells the others in the room that they should really follow Freddie to the rest of the party before seeking out any more of the creatures.
