Part 3: Sojourn into the Barrowmaze

With only the torchlight in the chamber to provide illumination, it is difficult to see properly. Marcus peers out and sees a humanoid creature, roughly man sized, creeping along the corridor towards the chamber in which you are encamped. It is crouched down near the floor, moving about on all fours as it criss-crosses the hallway; stopping sporadicly once reaching a wall and balancing itself by putting its arm out against the wall and seems to sniff the air. It then drops down to all fours again and moves closer to you. You see no weapon on its body, nor do you see or hear armor, which could explain its brisk movement. It is about 30 ft away and closing.

Erinar attempts to turn the creature ...

Seeing the strange creature shuffle down the hallway, Marcus prepares a flaming oil flask and tosses it at the beast."Burn! Burn yourself back to hell!"

Toss oil [1d20] = 17
damage...not sure but I am certain you can roll for that

Erinar's attempts to turn the creature have no affect as it continues to slowly advance upon you. Marcus prepares a flaming oil flask and tosses it at the beast. "Burn! Burn yourself back to hell!" The flask lands squarely on the creature's chest, splashing burning oil over it's torso. The burning oil provides better visibility displaying a humanoid creature with long, sharp teeth, and a pallid flesh that is stretched tightly over its starved frame. It screeches at you as it beats at the flames licking at its flesh.

"To arms, men. This beast came from death, and from death it will return!"
Pyrrhic draws his spear, waiting to engage until the front ranks take their place.

Seeing the creature highlighted with flames, Marcus fires off an arrow at it.

Erinar readies his mace and shield.

Sitting in his smallclothes with a bolt ready in his crossbow, Dren watches with fascination as the ungodly creature blazes.

He suspects that the vile creature has bitten off more than even it's wicked teeth can chew this time, but keeps his finger close to the trigger just in case.

Marcus fires off an arrow but the creature twitches at the last second and the arrow soars past it. With the flames licking at its appendages and its flesh blackening, it reaches the doorway.

Marcus, kicks at the wall after seeing his arrow fly pass the burning creature. Taking another arrow from his quiver he steadies it on his string and prepares for the creatures assault."This time I will not miss!"

Int roll... [1d20+1] = 7+1 = 8

attack [1d20+1] = 12+1 = 13 (bow)
[1d8] = 8 damage

Note sure what damage the fire did from the oil flask....

Mortiganto readies his handaxe, but does not yet approach the front rank.

Raising his crossbow to sight down the weapon, Dren pauses.

Should he fire, or let the fighters deal in their gruesome business? Watching Marcus fire wide helps him decide.

The creature, riddled with arrows and burning from the oil, collapses just before the archway.

Marcus continues to look down the hallway, past the burning creature to see if it has any friends coming."How about we finish our rest so the caster types can recharge their batteries?"

Also who are these Mortiganto and Erinar fellows?

Pyrrhic nods. "I'll keep watch, so the others can attempt to rest."

Mortiganto has been with us the whole time. Isn't Erinar the cleric we just picked up?

Correct. Mortiganto has been here the whole time. Erinar joined up with you before the last skeleton encounter.

Seeing that no one heads down the hall to investigate the dead creature, Marcus makes his way to it and looks it over. Not touching it with his hands, he moves the body around using the stiff sword that he carries around his waist.

He is also observant of creatures or anything else 'odd' that might be coming down the hall.

Marcus:

The flames continue to lick at the creatures back and appendages, those burning on the front extinguished when it fell forward. You can't be sure as you don't have much experience but you believe the fire burned faster than it would have on living flesh. Like the skin was old and dry. It wears nothing of import, being nothing more than cloth rags. Looking down the hall, you do not see anything else. The passage appears to be clear.
