Dren jogs to get ahead of the group and then scouts out towards the mound, using his natural Halfling affinity with the wilderness and his unique skill set to try and remain undetected.

Gawain will keep pace with the others, his palm resting on the pommel of his sword as he scans the perimeter of the party.

Striking out to the northeast, you come upon another mound, smaller than the others. Striking out around the mound, you find no entrance way to this mound either. Though, unlike the previous mound, you get the sense that time has done more than cover the entrance. The mound looks deformed, as though the weight of the ages overcame the build of the interior and caved in upon itself.

Looking around, it seems as though the fog is burning off and you are able to see more of the field; for how long though you couldn't say. To the south of you, about 150 to 200 feet, a ring of stone plinths (think Stonehenge) surround a mound. To the east and west of the stones, two more mounds. There are also mounds to the east of your current location.

***Marcu, Ouside Mounds...#2***

Looking around for any signs of an entrance, Marcus tells the others, "this mound looks bad. It appears to have collapsed inward.Pointing southward, "over there looks more promising...along side those up right stones."

"Standing stones?" Mortiganto asks. "Well, that just has to be important. Let's go there."

Pyrrhic cracks a grin.
"Why would they build something that alluring if they didn't want us to go investigate? There has to at least be a few gold in it."

  • Hex 04.08 is the barrow you first entered.
  • Hex 02.10 is the barrow Gawain looked into but did not enter.
  • Hex 07.09 is the barrow without a visible entrance and where everyone met Gawain.
  • Hex 09.08 is the collapsed barrow.
  • Hex 08.13 is the barrow with a ring of stone around it.
1 hex = 50 feet. The previous illustrated map was not to scale.

The field continues to the east, though how far you can not say at this moment.

Uto

"Those pillars may be a good place to set up camp tonight", says Uto, pointing in the direction of the plinths. "I'm going to need to be ready for prayer at sundown, and would like to know youse all will keep watch while I ask Wotan for guidance."

"The pillars seem as safe as anyplace else here," Mortiganto concedes. "Not that that's saying much. But first, let's see what awaits us at the tomb's center."

With that, he begins to walk carefully toward the center mound, weapon ready and senses on alert.

***Marcus Mound 8.13***

"Wait up Mortiganto."Marcus, follows him toward the standing stones. Looking back at the others,"Den and the rest of you, come on. For there is loot to be gathered and possible dangers to overcome. We need to all stick together to succeed in our lofty quest."

Pyrrhic cautiously follows the rest of the group, keeping watch for any surprises.
When we get to the standing stones, Pyrrhic will examine the base of each stone for any hidden dangers.

Emerging from behind a bush and pulling up his britches, Dren ties a large string belt tightly around his waist as he jogs to catch up.

"Dren is here!, and will search for traps ahead now that he is able to concentrate better" and with that he dodges ahead of the group and scouts ahead looking for traps, staying low to avoid presenting a silhouette.

You approach the ring of stones encircling the mound. The stones are cracked and pitted with age. The grass around them has grown up and obscures the bases of the stones. The stones are all of different shapes and sizes, but looking about them, you can find nothing indicating a trap. Everything seems normal enough about them. As you skirt your way around the mound and the circle, see a beaten trail leading away from the mound in a south-western direction. About 50 feet from the mound, piles of stone flank the pathway leading away from the plain.

Gawain will search for any markings on the mehirs. If there are none he will circle the mound looking for anything that might suggest an entrance to the mound.

Pyrrhic starts making camp (tents, fire, etc) in the middle of the stone circle.

Gawain inspects the stones circling the mound and finds no markings that appear to be man-made. Moving about the circle, you find an overgrown pathway, lined with small stone cairns, leading in toward this large central mound. A large stone door rests face down, broken in two, in the long grass of the entranceway. The area is littered with skulls and bones. A foul smell emits from the interior of the mound and the darkness beyond is black as night.

Dren moves forward cautiously, moving stealthy towards the opening, listening for sounds of an imminent attack and looking for any traps which may have killed the unfortunate owners of the skulls.
