So, if I am understanding my current situation correctly, I just spend a whole bunch of gold on a horse that I won't be able to use for this adventure? If so, that is a real bummer for my character He won't be able to make use of his wagon to haul loot either. I guess I should have asked about it before I finished making my character.

Take the horse and wagon. We'll use some town guards to watch over them if the DM is ok with it. Bandir is going to take his horse Kore.

well again it depends on the route that is taken. Wagon won't make it in the forest if you go straight in the woods from town. If you take the road from Sparrow's Point you can take the wagon but the old road is over grown and a wagon wont make it far to the mansion however hiding it off the road is not a bad idea nothing really goes to the old mansion.

However that does bring up a point maybe a small mining cart would work that a horse or mule could pull.
Something similar to this granted more period accurate with wooden wheels.
