Baltir pauses to listen then takes a look for where the sound came from.

It sounded like it came from the mattress when you flipped it over. But you can't be sure.

Baltir takes out a knife and cuts into the mattress in search of the source of the sound.

After cutting and digging around a bit, a leather pouch falls out of the mattress with a nice clinking sound.

In the pouch are 9 gold pieces, 21 silver pieces, and 18 copper pieces. You will divide the coins equally amongst the party members, I assume?

(OOC: Assuming no one whines about it. ;) )

Baltir, apparently finished with this room, looks to the others before moving out of this room and into the next closest room that they've not checked out already.

The next room appears to have belonged to a young woman, possibly a teenager. There is an old, rotting bed with flowery sheets. At the foot of the bed is an iron chest. It appears to be locked.

“Bah, this is weird! This place is totally falling apart, but the food was hot and ready. You guys think theres a ghost or something around?” Baltir asks, gripping his axe tighter.

"Old magic, perhaps?" says Kenelm. "Maybe the place was owned by a wizard and the table setting was part of a spell he used to feed himself. Hmm, I hope he didn't set any traps that might still be active . . . ."

"Magic??" Baltir says, making his axe creak under more pressure from his tightening hands. He seems to be trying to not appear nervous...and failing.

"Well, just a thought. Let's have a look at this chest. Any way to open it without ruining your axe?"

"Damage mah...." the dwarf huffs indignantly and raises his axe to strike down on the chest. He *was* concerned about the contents of the chest but now his pride swells too much to care. Swinging down he lets otu a loud battle cry.

Attack: 17

Damage: 6

Darius stands outside the room, trying to remain aloof. His pleas for restraint have gone unheeded, and now his companions seem intent upon trashing the entire house. "Magic or not, things are not as they seem, friends. And if you keep disassembling every bit of this place, I shall have very little with which to convince our hosts of our good intentions when we actually do meet them."

You've put a dent in the chest but it doesn't break open. Try again? Try until you get it?

Baltir stops at the top of his next swing...before the chop.

"See Kenelm, ya rat? Not a scratch!" he shows off his axe before bending over to look to see if the chest has a latch or lock or something.

The lock is built into the chest and might be weaker than the rest of the chest. But it looks very sturdy all the same.

"I don't do locks. We might look around for a key, no?" Darius pauses, then says: "I wonder if you are going about this the right way, though. Seems to me that another part of the box might be weaker than the lock. Like the hinges. Or the bottom."
