Solved | Opening external links in new window or tab

#1 Post by dmw71 »

I'm thinking it would be nice if links to external websites opened in a new tab (preferably) or new window instead of actually having a person leave the Unseen Server forums when clicking on it. In no way is this a big deal, but might be a nice-to-have type of feature.

For instance, say I wanted to link to a table on the Purple Worm website in a rules thread: Strength

If you click on the above link, you're actually moved to the Purple Worm website and leave Unseen Servant. You can always hit the 'back' button to return, but I'm a tab-user and almost never rely on the 'back' button (but am occasionally really glad it's there!). Of course, there's always the option of right-clicking on the link and selecting the preferred option, but that only works if you know the link is external in the first place.

I did a little poking around (see below) and I've seen the Prime Links MOD mentioned a few places as a possibility.

P.S. I don't believe the "Beware of Opening New Windows" link (from 2004) is still relevant nearly 10 years later.

just a suggestion but you can usually right click a link and say open in new tab/window but if on a phone, mac, or tablet I cannot say that is true.

I did mention the right-click option, and I am able to do that on my laptop and phone, but that only works *if* you know the link is external ahead of time.

I just treat all links as an external one personally. But yes I get where you are coming from. :)

This mod has been applied and seems to be working. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just tried the Purple Worm link from my original inquiry and it worked flawlessly, and all internal links still work as normal. Great stuff, man!

Appreciate the quick turnaround.

TXX is the man. What can we say. :)
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.
