Chpt. 2: In the Palace

Idwillen: "Can you communicate other than by blinking at us? Twice for yes, please."

Raquinel the Sorceress:

Stuffs the ingredients back in her satchel for the spell, and sits back against the wall, and pouts for a moment. Sliding her hood up on her head she exits behind the group to the next area of the castle. "So, did you get to poke the eye, Bjorn?"

Bjorn "Nah I got my head together and Shen got me back on the right path, maybe next time Ranquinel." he mopes a little but then brightens up with the hope of future poking something in the eye.

Flint again speaks up, asking the Eye but a single last question: Do you wish to be freed from this cage?

Honnilee's eyes grow big. Wa-wa-WAIT, guys! Guys, wait! Don't touch it! Don't poke it! She finds herself panting. Fly! A fly just... A fly flew. In there. In the eye cage. And POOF! It disappeared! It's gone! I saw it! Don't poke it!

Shen steps back from Honnilee's exclamation. Are you sure? But the holy water didn't vanish! Maybe it eats flies for sustenance.

[Innana]

Raquinel the Sorceress:

Honnilee's eyes grow big. Wa-wa-WAIT, guys! Guys, wait! Don't touch it! Don't poke it! She finds herself panting. Fly! A fly just... A fly flew. In there. In the eye cage. And POOF! It disappeared! It's gone! I saw it! Don't poke it!

"Wait Honnilee, let's see what happens when we goat something above the eye". Raquinel draws her wand from her belt, and focuses on floating a small stone from the ground above the eye, and let's it hover there to see what happens.

Poltux, fighter

Poltux squats down watching the eye, his hurling axe across his knees.
After a bit of a pause, he says to the eye, "Do you need to be released from that container to aid us?"

Bjorn

"Won't you all keep your eye on the prize and leave the darned thing alone? We need to move on or do you want the agents of chaos to find the rune staff first?"

[Innana]

Raquinel the Sorceress:

"Won't you all keep your eye on the prize and leave the darned thing alone? We need to move on or do you want the agents of chaos to find the rune staff first?"

Bjorn, what if this is a direct gateway to the runestaff? What if the stone that I have hovering over the eye vanishes? Could it mean it is a gateway? If it was a gateway, would the eye tell us what the gateway was to? Then Raquinel looks up at the stone hovering,would any one of us dare the teleport, if there was one?

Bjorn will go wait by the door tapping his foot and arms crossed slight scowl upon his face.

[Grognardsw]

While Bjorn the cleric and Shen the monk are ready to move on, others continue to question the eye.

Druid Idwellin, illusionist Flint, and fighter Poltux query the eye.

- Can you communicate other than blinking? (Two blinks, yes).
- Do you wish to be freed? (One blink, no.)
- Do you need to be released from that container to aid us? (One blink, no.)

Honilee the hobbit interrupts the questioning. "The fly went poof - disappeared!"

Raquinel the sorceress wonders if the eye is a gateway. She floats a stone close above the eye with her wand of telekinesis. The eye turns to look at it briefly, otherwise nothing happens.

Bjorn "Did you count to think that perhaps the fly was an illusion or made by someone with powers of magic?" Bjorn states in his wait, watching the others and shaking his head. "Well Shen it appears your words of wisdom only worked upon me. Our friends here might dally for a while longer with the eye."

[Zhym]

"The eye says it can communicate other than by blinking," notices Andover. "I wonder how? Telepathy? Anyone have a speak with anatomy spell?"

Poltux

Poltux looks at Ianin, "Would you risk using that torq to speak with the eye?"

[Innana]

Raquinel the Sorceress:

Tries to ask the eye telepathically if it can help us find the runestaff.

[MonkeyWrench]

Ianin looks towards the eye, "I don't think I should... I am tending to agree with the others on moving forward rather than using more time to inspect this thing..."

[GreyWolfVT]

Bjorn "The longer we sit here playing with the eye over there the longer we give the agents of chaos to get to the rune staff before us. Do you all wish to let that happen? I for one will not dally any longer Shen what say you? You always tend to be the voice of reason here." Bjorn getting a little huffy now understands how everyone must have felt when he was looking through books in the library and feels a little ashamed but is still quite impatient and on the verge of leaving and going off alone. His foot tapping with crossed arms has now turned into an impatient pacing by the doorway.

Raquinel attempts to speak telepathically with the strange eye. It shifts about within its sphere but is silent.

There is definite intelligence here, the adventurers realize, but communication is elusive.



Ianin declines the use of his Torc of ESP.

"What you call dallying, I call investigation," says Andover. "I doubt that this Runestaff is a prize waiting for us in the last room of the bottom level of a dungeon beneath this place, waiting for us simply to defeat its guardians and retrieve it. We must make our way to the Runestaff with all due haste, yes, but we must also learn as much information as possible to make sure we're hurrying in the right direction—and that we know all we need to know to defeat the puzzles that no doubt guard it."

"This eye has indicated that it can communicate. I would not ignore this source of information."
