Still More Anything Goes
I just noticed the last thread hit 21 pages. Starting up a new one.
Darrin
Just looking to clarify: Are you planning on bringing Darrin with you?
Re: Darrin
Doubt anyone has a Charisma high enough to convince him to go back with us! But yeah, we need a witness! And a torch bearer!dmw71 wrote:Just looking to clarify: Are you planning on bringing Darrin with you?

Hey, you saved his life, didn't you?
Never mind that you would also have been a contributing cause of death.

Re: Still More Anything Goes
Welcome, Grog.
In each group, put a pally (Strom/Kendrick), a barbarian (Grim/Alric), a lvl 3 cleric (Kaltar/Epsilon), a caster (Shanny/Fimmion), a second-line attacker (Ewell/Gwillt), then the group taking the front entrance adds O'Rek (assuming they might need the extra heals) and the other group can take the mayor's son, Derrik...
So... thoughts, anyone? I was actually serious about splitting up. We have enough fighters and healers and casters to do that quite well, in fact. Plus, in a group of 5 or 6, there are fewer people who are stuck in the middle, unable to do anything. We could send a group down this hole (maybe after opening it a bit). Gwillt does have a spear, so he could easily attack from second rank. Ewell could do the same with his new lance (hence the reason for making him a new lance, justyou), so...dmw71 wrote:... The hole itself is about three feet high and two feet wide, but even casual examination reveals that the passageway beyond basically doubles in both height and width, closely matching the single-wide passage the group previously discovered. There are no odors or sounds currently heard from within.
The initial lair entrance, you estimate, is a few hundred yards away further east.

Also, dmw71, you're missing Kendrick from the list of players at the top of this thread: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=697

Updated.
Re: Still More Anything Goes
With the further clarification of the openings, trying to interject smoke into the lair might work. Don't think we'd be able to go in for many hours after that. Something to consider.Alethan wrote:Welcome, Grog.

Here is the list of characters and their armour. That would limit who might even be able to go into the smaller opening, if splitting is something people want to consider.
Character/Armour
Strom - splint mail/shield
Gwillt - studded leather
Shannigans - leather
Ewell - chain mail/shield
Kaltar - chain mail/shield
Epsilon - studded leather/buckler
Grim - studded leather
O'rek - chain mail
Fimmion - n/a
Kendrick - chainmail/buckler
Aric - studded leather/buckler
I'd say Strom, Ewell and Kaltar are definitely out, due to either armour or shield limitations. It'd be a tight fit, but maybe possible for others. Obviously easy for the halfling. Maybe not so easy for the horc.

Re: Still More Anything Goes
I agree with Al, we have the group to split up if we want to, and we may even survive!

Per this post: viewtopic.php?p=62532#p62532
As for getting into the hole with armor, Strom would struggle the most with his splint mail but it would be possible. If a round is a minute, I imagine it would take him multiple rounds of twisting, turning, shifting, being pushed or pulled to get through completely (~3-6 rounds). Those in chain will have some minor struggles, but should be able to get through without too much effort (~2-4 rounds). Anyone wearing lighter armor can get through in a single round.
Updating Alethan's list with the time in rounds to get through this new side entrance:
Character/Armour
Strom - splint mail/shield (3-6 rounds)
Gwillt - studded leather (1 round)
Shannigans - leather (1 round)
Ewell - chain mail/shield (2-4 rounds)
Kaltar - chain mail/shield (2-4 rounds)
Epsilon - studded leather/buckler (1 round)
Grim - studded leather (1 round)
O'rek - chain mail (2-4 rounds)
Fimmion - n/a (1 round)
Kendrick - chainmail/buckler (2-4 rounds)
Aric - studded leather/buckler (1 round)
Darrin - leather (1 round)

Re: Still More Anything Goes
Strom will not want to get stuck in a tunnel, he is going to want to go in the other way.
Re: Still More Anything Goes
So, real quick, we could get Gwillt, Epsilon, Grim, Aric, Darrin, and then either Shanny or Fimmion into the smaller opening in just 6 rounds. That could work. Grim in front with Gwillt attacking from second ranks with his spear, then (Shanny or Fimmion) and Derrik and then Epsilon and Aric in the rear guard.dmw71 wrote:Per this post: viewtopic.php?p=62532#p62532

First one or two in might have to handle some of those mucklings or mudlickers or whatever they are, just to be aware...

Re: Still More Anything Goes
About splitting the party—I wonder if the tunnels back here are as twisty and loopy as the ones in front. From what I remember of your previous battle, part of the problem was the trogs looping around to flank the party. Or am I wrong? If so, and if this set of tunnels is like that, it might be worth having the "split" parties still near each other to protect each others' flanks.
Re: Still More Anything Goes
Just a reminder that you're entering into the prohibitive single-file wide passageway. Whomever enters first (from either entrance) will bear the brunt of any potential attacks, be limited in vision, etc... It will be possible to support from the second ranks if the second character in the order possesses a long reach weapon (spears = yes, javelin = no).Alethan wrote:So, real quick, we could get Gwillt, Epsilon, Grim, Aric, Darrin, and then either Shanny or Fimmion into the smaller opening in just 6 rounds. Re: Still More Anything Goes
I suppose Strom, Ewell and the other cool PCs could go through the main entrance (with Darrin holding the light) and work our way through whatever we find... and hopefully meet up?
