Um... is that coins in the map? Time to retire! Oh, right. We're kinda stuck... somewhere... what good is a mountain of gold if there's no where to spend it.. What is the big yellow patch? .

Deceidon / before the third door

"Careful for traps," mutters Deceidon as he examines the third door for such dangers and tripwires. He joins Gustov and uses his pole to check for pits in the little hallway from the door to the room. He will continue the general trap search in the room. Then the fighter/thief will visually examine only the chests to see if they appear locked, and if so will pause in action.
I assume none of the dead bandits we just looted had a key? What did they have?

The bandits only had their weapons and armor on them, very basic, similar to the ones in the town too. No keys on them.

"Careful for traps," mutters Deceidon as the group starts heading into the third room. The two warrior/thief's thorough search of the corridor and door reveals no traps of any sort, and with that they escort the group into the room. A mountain of shining gold pieces stands as the first thing in sight; the sheer volume alone causes Flynn's jaw to drop and make him stammer in excitement. "Gentlemen... I...I..." (How in the blazing hells is he going to carry as much as he is thinking of taking, I have know idea... Let's use our imagination! ) One thing is positive though, everyone now knows why most of the bandits did not keep anything of value on them, it was all stockpiled in this room! Years of stealing from merchants, adventurers and other notable persons would definitely yield all of this wealth; however, it is not the gold that has Deceidon's attention. Instead, his gaze is transfixed on the set of chests on each side of the room. He wonders if they are all locked and starts to look around the room more closely. A desk with a chair can be spotted near the entrance; it has a few papers sprawled on the surface, an inkwell and writing quill set aside at a corner as well as a candle, still lit. Nothing else seems to be in the room, other than what the group has already spotted.

I would have tried to npc Whitsell for this, but I still don't have a good feel for how his character would react to this kind of situation. He seems humble and considerate of others. But only onlyme knows how he truly is, and I wouldn't want to change his character on him.

Gustov, Fighter/Thief

Gustov carefully moves toward the chests to the right of the pile of gold, and checks each chest, in turn for traps, and for whether it is locked. He'll tell Deceidon what he finds as to traps and locks on each chest, and then, "Deceidon, double check these chests for traps, I don't care to feel one of these explode in our faces now that we're wealthy."

Whitsell, feeling much better (and stable) with his wound bound asks,

Shouldn't we cash in on our luck so far, and take this food back toward town? It might help us with the locals, and allow us to heal properly. I am only an arrow away from seeing Karnagee himself... And a few of you don't look so great yourselves...

Deceidon / treasure room

While Gustov is examining the chests, Deceidon looks over the papers to see what they say. He then pockets them as possible proof to use against the bandits later.

"By Heisenberg!" says Deceidon as he runs his hands greedily through the pile of gold. He scoops up into a sack as many coins as he can without being encumbered.

After Gustov is done with the chests he'll look over his shoulder. "Any luck?"
Not to meta-game, but if Gustov failed a detect trap would the trap go off on him? And if not, the implication is that there is no trap?

That would be a safe assumption. Upon noticing something on one of the papers, Deceidon is quick to pocket them before the others notice. PM will be sent shortly to Grognardsw.

Before I give a proper update post, continuing the story and all that, I will give you guys enough time to sort out your actions (making them clear) and to finish any dialogues that may be taking place between the characters.

Deceidon / treasure room

Figuring traps would be either be set off or found with Gustov's efforts, Deceidon will help if necessary to pick the locks. While Gustov is checking such, Deceidon holds out the papers.

"At quick glance these are inventory lists of the treasure that show long and extensive banditry," he says. The fighter-thief had considered that theft of such treasure by him would be exposed by the list, so perhaps it had not be shared, but Deceidon's better nature won out and he shares the papers. Perhaps there will be a reward. "Possibly the contents of the chests are listed here."

Whitsell thinks and replies,

Yes, well, I suspect we need to do the right thing and return them to their rightful owners up in town. If they still are alive. It is one thing if these treasures are 100s of years old, mind you. But another to go pawn off a ruby ring that belonged to the jewellers neighbor.

Gustov

Gustov pauses at the mention of returning jewels, "Well, we'd need to be certain who it was stolen from, and that they hadn't stolen it from someone else in the first place, I'd say.
"Of course, there's always rewards, sometimes the rewards are worth more than the items returned!"

The group's encounter of the treasure room fills them with a temporary sense of respite as their actions thus far has seen some reward now. The shining heap of gold catches the eyes of Flynn and Deceidon as they start to run their hands through it, taking what they want. Deceidon having found some documents on the table nearby, shares them with the group, saying that they may be a list of stolen goods collected by the group of bandits over the years. "At quick glance these are inventory lists of the treasure that show long and extensive banditry..." "Possibly the contents of the chests are listed here."Whitsell, encouraged by his own sense of morality, suggests that the group return these stolen goods to their previous owners, fully knowing that they might be hundreds of years old as it all stand right now."Yes, well, I suspect we need to do the right thing and return them to their rightful owners up in town. If they still are alive. It is one thing if these treasures are 100s of years old, mind you. But another to go pawn off a ruby ring that belonged to the jewellers neighbor." Gustov pauses at the mention of returning jewels, "Well, we'd need to be certain who it was stolen from, and that they hadn't stolen it from someone else in the first place, I'd say. "Of course, there's always rewards, sometimes the rewards are worth more than the items returned!"

Most of the groups lockpicking efforts having been thwarted thus far by the chests. It would seem as if the only way to open them would be a set of keys. (as a reminder, none were found on the bodies of the previously slain bandits) Fearing that any more attempts at forcing the chests open with thieving tools would yield some sort of trap, the warrior/thieves stop their efforts and contemplate how they will go about handling all of this new found wealth.

Whitsell also draws attention to another subject of importance, the group's health. Whitsell, feeling much better (and stable) with his wound bound asks, "Shouldn't we cash in on our luck so far, and take this food back toward town? It might help us with the locals, and allow us to heal properly. I am only an arrow away from seeing Karnagee himself... And a few of you don't look so great yourselves..." The Lump, who has stood quitely gawking at all of the gold in the room, also speaks up when this is mentioned. "Me thinks that be a good idea. There are lots more bandits in the main camp. If we are heading there, we might want to be at full strength. Who knows what 8-finga Joe might try to pull once we get there, right?"

Once Flynn gets an eyefull of the treasure he comes to his senses and moves to watch the hall.

Deceidon / treasure room

"Aye, let's take whatever treasure we can and head back to report our findings to the Captain of the Guard," says Deceidon. He fills his sacks to capacity even if it encumbers him, given they should be safe returning to town. "The Captain can send forces to retrieve the foodstuffs and remaining coin."

"Before we leave though: Lump, hack open one of those chests."

Upon hearing there is going to be chest bashing, Flynn nonchalantly steps out of the room and into the hallway.... to keep look-out...yeah.... that's it.

Whitsell looks and listens. Yes, I suppose it makes more sense to bring the chests back than the food. For now. Let us quickly grab these and get back up top. Then we can safely open them. We can then lead a group back down to get the food and other chests if need be. And then, perhaps finish off the bandits.

He looks for a chest to grab to haul back.

Gustov, fighter/thief

Frustrated with the locks on the chests, picks up a gold piece, bends it and tests that it is not fake.

"Now the problem with taking this gold back to town, or at least more than we can spend on supplies and healing, is that then one of the bandits in town will likely steal it when we return down here. And weren't ALL of the town's residents at the very least former bandits?

"I say we take only what will allow us to pay for the equipment we need, perhaps some better armor and weapons, some healing, some horses and tack, and leave the rest here. We know where it is. The bandits don't know we found it, and it's safe from the former-bandit-townsfolk."

Gustov then moves out of the way of any trap that the bashing of the chest might trigger. He'll then return to the heap of gold, look for any gems, jewelry or platinum among the pile, and load about ten pounds of gems, jewelry, platinum, and gold in that order of preference into a small sack he brought with.

Whitsell answers,"Ah, but once the townsfolks see us breaking out shiny coins after being down here, they will know it is the stolen loot. Stolen from them most likely. I think it better still to bring up and take a reward's fee for what you suggest, and let them have the rest back. It will build much greater goodwill, and help us at some point, I am sure...
