Into the fray

#1 Post by wolfpack »

As the group charges foward from the direction of the crossbow bolts the crash into the thick tall grass that is chest high.

As you enter the first few feet in in front and to the right of you pops up a number of orcs dressed in dirty furs stuffed with grass and twigs that waqs obviously used as camoflague.

Not seeing any enemies to the east when they bust out the mill, Viktor will move forward and engage the previously-unseen orc directly in front of him (#7), attempting to impale the dirty bastard on his trusty spear...

To Hit: Spear [1d20] = 18, damage vs small/medium creatures [1d6+1] = 3+1 = 4
Yosef Travathas: High Elf Fighter4/Magic-User3 (rredmond's Pacesetter Games "Legacy of the Unknown" OSRIC Playtest)
Brok Sterling: Human Assassin3 (ToniXX's Incursion into Newiron OSRIC Playtest)
Tanik Tremwoodak: Dwarf Cleric3 (Dave's 1e Skype Game)

DM: home-brew OSRIC "A New Hope to the West" campaign

Scythius wastes no time, rushing at the orc directly in front of him (o8), looking to skewer it with his long spear.

Talon breaks towards number 2 to prevent the orcs from flanking the group

1d20+2=17

damage
1d8+2=5

osric charges ahead at #5
1d20+2=17

damage
1d4+3=5

The group charges from the burning mill into the tall grass to engage the unseen foes.

As you close in, the orcs who set the ambush rise from their hidden positions holding spears and move to engage you. talon breaks to the right flank and meets an orc wearing studded armor who appears to be the leader of the raiding band. He lands a solid blow on the disgusting humanoid that staggers him, but fails to fall him.

Rushing straight ahead screaming may Thor smite thee the mountain of a man Osric brings his hammer down squarley on top of the head of the orc directly in front of him. there is a sickening crack as the orcs head twists at a funny angle and the creature collapses.

Vik the anger building at the series of events that seem to continualy befall his beloved group runs and shoves the tip of his spear into the gut of the orc facing him. the orc drops his spear and grasps viks as his eyes grow wide as saucers and he slowly slides off to the ground.

Scy with his long two handed spear moves with a little less vigor as he preapres his strike. the orc facing him attempts to bullrush past scy's range only to have scy shift his weapons angle and catch the orc in the throat. There is a disturbing gasp/gargle sound as the spear penetrates the orcs neck and exits the other side.

The remaining orcs move in to engage the party, with the leader and orc #1 attacking talon on the flank.

o1
1d20=12

o2
1d20=5

o3 moves to osric
1d20=11

o6 to vik
1d20=6

o4 to scy
1d20=11

seeing their comrades dispatched the orcs redouble their efforts, moving foward with wild abandon. However the group manages to fend off their clumsy atacks.

Talon blocks one of the orcs off with his shield as he easily dodges the strike of their leader. years of combat experience kicking in. The rest of the young companions move and dodge the attacks, the last few months of hard training and combat experience making their reflexes take over.

Behind you you can feel the heat as trhe fire engulphs the mill and begins to spread into the dry grass.

Melee outside the Mill: Round 2

Initiative roll [1d6] = 4

Viktor sees the light from the mill going up quickly growing brighter and hopes that having it to their back and in their opponents' eyes will give them an advantage. He attempts to keep the momentum of their attack and presses forward against the orc (#6), attempting to skewer him like his unfortunate accomplice.

To Hit: Spear [1d20] = 13 (hits AC7), damage vs small/medium creatures [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7
Yosef Travathas: High Elf Fighter4/Magic-User3 (rredmond's Pacesetter Games "Legacy of the Unknown" OSRIC Playtest)

I'll have to link to roll later since copying roll results on a Kindle isn't easy/possible?

To hit: 9
Damage: 7

Link: Long spear [1d20+1] = 8+1 = 9 [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7

---

Scythius continues to keep his focus on the most obvious targets (e4). Just as he's about to gab with his spear, a cracking from the fire behind him distracts him and he stabs at air.

osric
[1d20] = 6+2=8

talon
[1d20] = 12+2=14

Distracted by thye fire the orc in front of Vik pauses and looks up just long enough for the young brigand to pierce his heart.

scy himself distracted misses as the orc eaisly didges his attempt. Osric moving to switch taergets also misses.

Talon takes a mightly swing and decapitates the leader orc he damaged earlier.

The orc attacking scy stabs at him but stumbles as he steps in agopher hole
[1d20] = 1

The attack of the orc on Osric is repelled by his ring mail
[1d20] = 11

As talon finishes off the lead orc he leaves imself open and is hit by his other opponant
[1d20] = 14

Initiative roll [1d6] = 1 :evil:

Viktor will step over the orc he just killed (#6) and then quickly turn to his right to try and skewer the orc (#3) that's facing Osric.

To Hit: Spear [1d20] = 11, damage vs small/medium creatures [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2

Scythius looks to finish what he was unable to last round, spearing the orc in front of him (e4), and hopefully does just that.

The orcs continue to press their attack

o4 on scy
1d20=20

damage
1d6=6

o3 on osric
1d20=8

o1 on talon
1d20=15

damage
1d6=6

talon attck
1d20=3

osric attack
1d20=8

The orc facing scy finds an opening and plunges his spear tip into the young rangers left bicep eliciting a yell of pain.

Pulling back scy shifts his long spear and angles it up hitting the orc in his chest and sliding it between two of his ribs killing him.

you hear a cry of pain as talon is struck on the shoulder by the orc facing him. the blow knocks his swing offline dearly losing his sword.

Vik lunges at the orc in front of Osric, the orc dodges the atack and viks movement causes Osric to adjust at the last second his mighty swing missing the humanoid.

all the while the fire continues to spread through the mostly dry grass.

init round 4
1d6=5

"Scy, help Talon! He's been hit again!" Viktor declares as he stabs out again at the orc (#3) he and Osric are facing...

Scythius, hearing Vic's declaration, rushes behind Vic and Osric, looking to lance the orc threatening Talon (o3) with his long spear. Perhaps he is too interested in positioning himself between his comrade and the pig-faced foe than actually hitting the beast.

The remaining orcs atatck with fury as if the prospect of detah held no fear with them.

1d20=14
1d6=3

the orc on Osric stabs wildly striking the cleric and drawing a curse from the big man

1d20=7
The one attacking talon seeing the sheriff wounded pushes foward a smile on it's grotesque face, but is unable to get past the warriors defense now that he has his full attention.

Vik and osric both fail to land a blow on their foe as he fights like a creature possesed.

1d20+2=15
1d6+2=7
The orc facing Talon is not so lucky however as the sheriff leads the creature off balance and slides his short sword through it's exposed throat

Melee outside the Mill: Round 5

Surprise or Initiative roll [1d6] = 3

Knowing that they must put a quick end to this fight and regroup with the others, Viktor refocuses on the dirty orc (#3) that he and Osric are facing. "Die already, ya pig!" he growls as he sidesteps in an attempt to flank the humanoid and stabs out again with his hopefully continued-trusty spear...

To Hit: Spear [1d20] = 12 (hits AC8), damage vs small/medium creatures [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5

Before they regroup with the others, Vik would want to quickly check the fallen orcs for any unusual or potentially important items and loot. (not their weapons, armor, mundanes, etc.)

To speed things up, he'd ask the others for help.
