Battle of Malar's Fist - Into the Werewolves' Lair 12

While the healing power of Shaundakul closes some of Darkstar's wounds, Greystone sheathes his knife and picks up his bow, drawing and firing two silver-tipped arrows directly into the chest of the captured Feldar! (6 pts) Feldar howls and thrashes, breaking more than one of the roots holding him, but still, he cannot escape.
Darkstar, opens his eyes and sees Tarrin grinning down at him, hears the howls, and knows the battle isn't over. Springing to his knees, he grits his teeth against the pain of his wounds, and like Greystone, quickly fires two silver-tipped arrows at Feldar. The first arrow pierces the werewolf's stomach (5 pts), but the second careens off one of the large roots holding the beast.

As Feldar roars and promises endless pain and destruction upon you in Malar's name, Dorn, the last of the young brothers, charges forward with his axe, screaming, "FOR ME BROTHERS > GO TO HELL YE PIECE OF DOG SHIT!"
And with a mighty swing, borne of grief and anger, Dorn chops Feldar nearly in two! (Crit > 14 pts!) http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4146360/

As Feldar, the werewolf leader dies, the lone remaining wolf and the Ogre momentarily look confused and in shock...and then they try to flee out the side tunnel. Suddenly, the cavern shudders and large chunks of rock and ceiling come loose and fall crashing to the floor. The roots grow thicker, tearing into the unholy place, threatening to bring it down upon all who remain!

Realizing what is happening, Dorn runs to his brother's body and picks up the gory dead barbarian, shouting, "We have to get out of here and this will be a tomb for all of us!"

If nobody else does, Greystone runs over to the body of the she-wolf and grabs her magical dagger before clearing out of the cave.

(marking 2 silver-tipped arrows off of inventory since he isn't going to attempt to recover them from the dead werewolf...)

Tarrin grabbed his bow and started barking orders. "Cole, grab the king's body. Greystone, you and Darkstar take Adain." Tarrin didn't trust Nokrugh to follow directions, given his state, so he bypassed him entirely.

Chanting a brief prayer, Tarrin ran over to the werewolf leader's body. He quickly searched it, grabbing anything that glowed magical or looked interesting or valuable, then turned and ran out of the room, down the passage the ogre had fled, and which the rest of the group was hopefully moving.

((ooc: Cast Detect Magic, search and loot Feldar's body. Then run down the side passage.))

How would he know she had a magical dagger? Cole and Nokrugh are the closest...and yet Cole is still determined to kill stuff rather than run for his life. Listen? I hear dice rolling...

((ooc: I think I would have seen the dagger, though, considering that I was closer to the action and paying attention to the woman. Depending on how things are when I get to her, I'll try to grab it. Why yes, Tarrin is a wizard, and interested in magic. Why do you ask? :D ))

Per the first round...

Greystone and Darkstar were looking in the direction of the two werewolves when she threw the dagger. It's not inconceivable that he would have seen it.

Battle of Malar's Fist - Into the Werewolves' Lair 13

While Greystone and Darkstar grab Adain, Dorn runs past them, not toward the side tunnel, but back the way they group came! Greystone yells at him, but he yells back, "I'm not leaving Zorn to rot in this hole! Get the King!"

Tarrin checks the body of Feldar for magical emanations and only finds one thing > a moldy brown cloak tied around his neck, now very noticeable since he has reverted to human form in death.

As the Ogre and wolf flee, Cole breaks the wolf's back with a well-placed throw of a hand-axe, dropping it in its tracks. He then looks to the Ogre...to see that Nokrugh has cut down the ugly beast with a flurry of attacks, using his bastard sword! http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4148292/

The ceiling is coming down more now, and you are barely able to avoid the rocks that fall from it. Pretty soon, you will be trapped in the cavern...forever. There are two exits > the side tunnel where the Ogre came from, and the way leading back to where you entered the lair.

(You have two rounds to make decisions...and then it's gonna be all over but the crying > Actions!)
Current Stats:
Cole - down 7 hp
Darkstar - at 5 hp
Dorn - down 4 hp
Gorn - dead
Greystone - down 16 hp
Nokrugh - down 8 hp
Tarrin - down 2
Adain - at "0" hp - stabilized
King Gundar - dead
Ogre - dead

Tarrin grabs the cloak from the werewolf's body, glances at the ceiling, and runs for the side passage. "Get the king!" he snarls at Cole and Nokrugh, who both seemed to be looking stupidly down at the corpses of the beasts they'd slain. He spared on glance at Tath's body over his shoulder, and murmured a quiet prayer to the stalwart bear. Things would likely have gone much worse if she hadn't been with him.

((ooc: Leaving Greystone or someone else to grab the magical dagger, and the strong guys to get the kind. Running down the side tunnel.))

Cole snaps out of his battle reverie and finally notices what is going on around him. He scoops up the magical dagger from the dead female werewolf and then, putting his weapons away, grabs the body of King Gundar and begins to drag it toward the side tunnel. "Help me, Nokrugh!" he yells.
Nokrugh, still in berserker mode, really doesn't respond at first, but then a chunk of ceiling cracks him on the back (6 pts), getting his attention, and he snarls and helps Cole drag the king's body down the side tunnel, following after Greystone, Darkstar, and Tarrin.
Within seconds of exiting the cavern, the tunnel shudders as a deafening crash announces the collapse of the cavern behind you, burying all evidence of the fane of Malar along with the bodies of the dead.
You follow the tunnel, which reeks of Ogre scent, for about fifty yards...until it opens into another cavern. Standing in the cavern, waiting for you to exit are two Ogres. One is definitely a female, while the other is shorter and not as big > her child. The female roars and brandishes a club the size of her son. The child whimpers and moves behind his mother, seeking her protection.
Across from them is an exit from the cavern...and you think you can see dim light down the exit...

Greystone, struggling with his half of Adain, looks up at the ogre brandishing the club and says, coldly, and in common, "All below are dead. You should take your child and leave, before you are, as well."

Nokrugh feels the effects of the potion and of his berserking wearing off quickly when the small party stumbles into the ogres layer.

"Cole", he whispers to get the mans attention and when Cole turns he sees the half orcs eyes starting to roll up in his head. He fights and fights but the sudden loss of abilities is about to collect it's due payment and Cole knows it won't be long before they have to drag the 265lb half orc out too. Stumbling toward the blurry light at the end of the tunnel Nokrugh steady's himself against the cold rock wall and through shear force of his endurance wills himself to the tunnels opening.

Nokrugh will fight with every bit of his inhuman endurance to make the entrance to the tunnel.

Tarrin watched the ogress carefully while Nokrugh stumbled drunkenly about. Cole seemed to want to let her go; Tarrin was ambivalent. He'd seen what ogres could do. On the other hand, he wasn't very eager to slaughter children. So if she went, he'd let her go. But f she made the slightest move toward them, he'd put her down.

The Ogress blinks a few times, trying to get the gist of Greystone's words. She watches Nokrugh stumble toward the exit tunnel and glances back at the others. She reaches back to feel her son clutching her, and this seems to embolden her a bit. "Home! We stay! You go!"
She jerks her club in the direction of the tunnel and steps back a bit, giving you plenty of room to exit if you wish.
Cole looks at the others, and then at Nokrugh, and with renewed effort, hoists the king's body across his back and makes for the tunnel. "I'll come back for you in a minute," Cole gasps, as Nokrugh collapses inside the tunnel, about forty feet from the exit.

Tarrin shrugged. One ogress and one youngling weren't going to cause that much difficulty. He headed out, wanting to see the sun and curious whether that idiot barbarian had survived. Considering everything else that had fallen on them today, though, he moved with caution.

Greystone nods at the she-ogre and says,"We go. You stay."

Then he helps Darkstar carry Adain out to the open air.

Malar's Fist > Outside the Werewolf's Lair

This far north, the air is cold and the heavy clouds promise rain, maybe even snow, but you'll take it, grateful to survive the lair of the werewolves. Unfortunately, not all of you survived, losing almost all of the barbarians, including King Gundar Brontoskin of the Thunderbeast Tribe.
Exhausted and battle weary, you take a few moments to rest outside the Ogre's cave, ignoring the stench, glad to have made it out of there alive. Adain is still unconscious, but thanks to Tarrin, his wounds are no longer bleeding.
As you rest and take stock of your supplies, gulping from your waterskins, you hear a cry for help coming from the entrance to the Fist, where you first entered the lair. A great cloud of dust is rising into the air from the large rock formation and you see Dorn waving at you. Tarrin shakes his head in disbelief and grins in spite of himself.
A few of you hurry to help the young barbarian, glad to see he made it out alive. He has both of his dead brothers - Gorn and Zorn - and you help him carry them back toward the Ogre's cave.
Dorn's head is cut badly, likely from falling debris, but he appears strong enough to walk. "I want them alongside Vorn, near the creek in the Blood Grove," Dorn says, his voice thick with emotion. "Couldn't get ol' Finn - hate that he is buried in that hole. And others too > you didn't hear their screams as I ran out of there. I'll have nightmares the rest of me life fer sure."

Actions? What are you plans for getting out of here? There are only a few hours of daylight remaining today.

Current Stats:
Cole - down 7 hp
Darkstar - at 5 hp
Dorn - down 4 hp
Gorn - dead
Greystone - down 16 hp
Nokrugh - down 14 hp
Tarrin - down 2 hp
Adain - at "0" hp - stabilized
King Gundar - dead

OOC: Should we take advantage of some of the healing we've been given? Several of us are one hit away from dead. Would suck to survive all of that and then die to a random encounter... Where have we left our horses and such, then? Back at the ogre encampment in the woods?

Greystone sits on the edge of a flat rock, holding his side. "We should heal up what we can before moving as far away from here as possible. Maybe make for the mad hermit's hut again?"

OOC: How far away is it to Rast's hut?
