Sample Character Creation

#1 Post by TheMyth »

I have been contemplating adding an NPC who might fill in some skill gaps. I was thinking someone more combat-savvy. A little rough & tumble. So here's....

Quinn Stryker, 1930s Gumshoe

ATTRIBUTES: 18-24= -6

AWA 4 COOR 4 ING 4 PRE 4 RES 4 STR 4

He's above average in everything, but not spectacular in any one.

SKILLS 18-18
Athletics 2, Convince 2, Craft 0, Fighting 3, Knowledge 1, Marksman 3, Medicine 0, Science 0, Subterfuge 3, Survival 1, Technology 0, Transport 3

Stryker was in the Army, where he learned to drive and fly anything that moved (but never learned how to repair any of them). After he got out, he became a P.I. in NYC.

TRAITS 6-6 (from Attributes)
With 0CP left, every Good Trait must be balanced with a Bad one.

Attractive? Too obvious.
Brave? Yes! (+1CP)
Charming? Nah.
Face in the Crowd? Easy to tail people! Yes! (+1CP)
Friends? Basically contacts & informants in 1930s NYC. A Minor Trait. (+1)
Keen Senses? Yes! Keen Eyesight! (+1)
Photographic Memory? Maybe.
Indomitable? Maybe.
Tough? Hmmm... Yes, minor! (+1)

So, +5. Need 5 CP worth of Bad Traits.

Adversary? For this sort of game, doesn't make sense.
By the Book? Definitely not!
Code of Conduct? Maybe.
Dark Secret? Oh, yes! How bad? Something horrible from his past...maybe something he did or saw while in the army? Quinn needs points, so it's something truly reprehensible! (-2)
Eccentric? Nah, not really.
Good Samaritan? Yeah, he's a good guy - a sucker for a dame in trouble or a kid with a bruised knee. (-1)
Insatiable Curiosity? Why do you think he's an investigator? (-1)
Maverick? Tempting! Maybe why he left the army? Yes! (-1)
Obsession? Yes! A 1930s gumshoe is usually chainsmoking, but a dependency like that isn't tenable when time travelling. So, he has an oral fixation, generally; thus, sticking to toothpicks, pencils, pens, vapes, straws, twigs, etc. (-1)
Argumentative? No. Do not tick off a paying client!
Total: -6.

He has 1CP more to spend!

I am liking Photographic Memory, but it cost 2CP. A good Bad Trait might be Obligation: Clients, but will he be taking clients during the game? How about Code of Conduct: Honor Promises (-1). Not a specific obligation, but a personal code.

Quinn felt compelled to help people, so he became a private investigator. His cases ranged from finding lost dogs to catching kidnappers to investigating the occasional odd circumstance. That one caper with the little green men was the cat's pajamas!
