Re: Back to the Outpost
I am assuming that my focus on stone-reading and plant-growing precludes me from foraging with them.
Lharzin is pre-occupied with touching the stone walls and communing with the ancient memory of the outpost. She seems wistfully content as she comes out and joins Murgar in the pasture each day, overseeing the saplings which grow rapidly and twine their branches into a sturdy lattice.

Will also start to plan out his planting, and if the time is right even start it.

Re: Back to the Outpost
Probably over dinner when they get back from the days' hunting...
Lharzin chats casually while cutting up food on her plate. "The battle never reached here... the final fighting and death of the elven king happened just a day's walk northwest. That might be an interesting place for us to investigate as well. The outpost has always been for hunting and foraging, sending preserved game back up the Silver Way. It is glad you are doing so again. It is right to have it reoccupied, the stone is glad to have feet here once more."
She looks between Algrim and Arngeir. "It seems one of you found a dagger blade? It is of potency and importance. Might I examine it fully?"
"This place was closed when the khuzdul withdrew from the world; it is fitting it be re-opened with their desire to come forth, allowing a waystation for them to continue on and trade with the kingdoms of men once more. Let us determine what your plans are and what they need and then I can send word to King Hazmadul. This is well-concealed - do you intend to reveal it with regular traffic, or keep it a hidden reserve behind a wooden inn?"
If the hunting trip last longer, she spends time with Volin, taking this rare opportunity to discuss the Shek Pvar with a fellow khudzul. (If we have a downtime period, she would like to study Peleahn magic with him.)

Arngeir
The ivinian removes a small, plain, dagger from his belt and passes it to Lharzin.
"You mean this? Was found with key. Sometimes things talk to me, tell me things, answer my questions. This belonged to Baild of Elendsa, is all I found out."

Ingram is quite interested in the location of the battle involving the elven king, and would be very interested in visiting the site.Marullus wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 4:50 pm Lharzin chats casually while cutting up food on her plate. "No... the one the stones speak of is much older, its hilt and wrappings rotted away by time so you only found the blade. It is from the War.
Have you tried to see what it tells you about its own history and power? Perhaps you could do so."
Re: Back to the Outpost
The hunter gathers set out early in the morning.
Algrim leads the way, followed by Arngeir, Beryl, and Ingram. The others remain at and around the outpost.
I will take 4 1d100 rolls from each of the hunter gatherers. Any other actions you want to take while hunting or are specifically looking for let me know with your rolls.

As mentioned, part of Arngeir's reason for going is to learn the lay of the land and potential approach routes.

Algrim while hunting, also takes mental notes of the terrain to familiarize himself with the lay of the land as well as potential points of interest to station guard posts and or build look out or watch towers. As well as taking note of general wildlife and other creatures travel patterns.

The hunting party.
Overall very good rolling, but not a single critical (should be 20% of rolls or 3.2 rolls in this case, so no skill improvement rolls). An average of only 29, which is very good for generating marginal success, nice rolling.
After walking for about an hour, Algrim notes an area with some tall grass clearings along the edge of some thick forest. Good terrain for all sorts of game, but particularly Forest Deer. He sends Arngeir, Beryl, and Ingram into the thick stuff to sneak through looking for game and posts himself on the edge of the thicker area looking for anything coming out.
Sure enough about 30 minutes later as they sneak through Beryl spots the tail end of a deer, about 50 paces away. Looking carefully he can make out the head of the deer in the brush and decides to try even though it is a difficult throw. He throws and strikes the head, doing a serious injury. The deer goes down, twitching and kicking. Beryl runs up and finishes it with his knife. The deer is average size for a forest deer buck, roughly 50 pounds.
Arngeir and Ingram hear the commotion and start over towards it.
Algrim hears something inside, gets ready and 2 forest deer burst from the forest running full out. He swings his crossbow and takes a shot, missing as they disappear into the next section of forest.
Algrim, hunting MS for set up and MF for Crossbow shot on running deer at long range. Beryl MS for Stealth, Awareness, and Spear throw at long range. Location 2 (head).
Beryl Spear MS Ignore damage [2d6+7]=3+7=10, -1 for hide vs point, S3 injury to the head.
Deer S3 shock roll vs 9 [3d6]=13 Failed, goes down, unable to defend itself or flee.

Re: Back to the Outpost
Algrim decides to stay out a bit longer hunting hoping to bag a boar again.

Re: Back to the Outpost
Arngeir keeps watch while the deer is prepared.
Re: Back to the Outpost
Beryl field dresses the deer while Algrim still hunts for a boar and Arngeir keeps watch. As Ingram works his way back to the others he notices something in the underbrush, taking a closer look it looks like a very old mile marker for a Khuzdul road or side trail, he isn't sure which. All the marking on it are worn away by the years but it appears you are near the southern way or on a side trail to it.

Back at the outpost.
Turnip hands the blade over to Lharzin, "This is the blade we found under the pile of rocks in here. Clearly special but we haven't taken the time to investigate it yet."
Murgar meanwhile is outside checking around the upper area and finds a very tall fir tree of some sort. Maybe 300 to 400 paces from the back door. Might make a good hidden observation point, plenty of hand holds to climb it.

Murgar
Enjoys his time grazing the goats on the top of the hill. When he returns he lets the others know about the tree he found and its possibilities.

Re: Back to the Outpost
Ingram finds a tall tree branch and sticks it into the ground to show where he found the mile marker and then looks in the immediate area to see if he can identify the trail or road it was once beside.
