In Search Of Pappy Peppy

Bugs tries to gather his friends from the Caves of Chaos adventure to go back outside the Keep's walls to look for his lost father and his human fishermen friend, Tarlac.

"A plan is good. Gyb has an idea for the plan. It is late and night will come. Gyb can't see at night. Will there be a torch or lantern?"

"I have a hooded lantern and 10 flasks of oil, as well as 3 torches. A tinder box with flint and steel and an extra tinderbox with flint and steel just in case. Mom always said "Two is One and One is None." she is very wise and I like to think I take after her at least in that regard."

He nods at the wise words. "Right. So Peppy and Tarlac go fishing almost daily. They are the fishmongers in town and seem to be experienced. I was told by Sabine and the family that they have a special spot, and that while Peppy sometimes stays out overnight to go foraging, Tarlac never fails to come back home."

"Oh! And something about Gnolls in the area. Let me think...yeah, gnolls in the woods past the river."

Haldric eventually finds his way back to his comrades and offers to help. "Seems like a necessary thing to find your Da, no question. Will give us time for the other group to get back so we can hear how they faired in the Caves. Would like to get back there, myself, soon, but let's take care of family first."

Loyn enters the tavern and listens to the plans, ”Yes, of course I’m in and me battle-axe too! Ready whenever you are.”

Where’s Peppy?
The Wilderness
Cloudy, Evening

The main group, minus their one-armed scientist, sets out to see if they can locate Bugs’ father Peppy and the Fishmonger Tarlac, still missing from their fishing trip the day before.

It is already late in the day before plans are made and the group is assembled. After gathering their weapons from Sabine at the front gate, they step outside into the chill of night, darkness already setting in around them. A merchant wagon pulls up to the gate as the party exits, covered in shining lanterns, but Rida assures the others he has plenty of light sources.

From the end of the path intersecting the main road, a familiar voice suddenly cries out from the dark. "Hello, can you help us! Our friends have been seriously hurt. Help!" It sounds a lot like the voice of the wandering cleric, Stobart.

Rida rushes over to the voice of Stobart and helps with the fallen.

Once he sees the fallen he calls back to the others/castle gate, "Get a physician, there are several badly wounded!"

"Rida! We saw your group had returned to the keep when we passed through the clearing. We bit off way too much and almost didn't make it back at all. Help me pull this up to the keep."

Keya kicks in to help carry or whatever is needed.

"Is anyone bleeding out or close to death??"

Rida will help Stobart pull the liter up to the keep. "Looking at you I can believe it."

Pim "I believe we stopped the bleeding, otherwise we would've been dragging our dead back. We did lose one we don't know where she vanished to but other than that we all made it back. I wouldn't suggest going to the cave of the unknown though, not unless you got a large group of folks that can drop the undead." the halfling replies/informs.

"Ugh, horrible. Makes me feel better about are almost failure of a trip ourselves. A couple goblins, got chased off by a troll and was laughed at by Kobolds."

Haldric listens intently and seems to sway a bit as the story unfolds. "These men are in dire need of healing and rest! Pray, I have myself just returned from the Caves and have yet to recover the prayers of Dumathoin!"

"Perhaps we should purchase rooms for them to recover in," she offers though she is severely lacking in the coin to pay for such accommodations. Once the injured are settled and being cared for, she will look for someone in authority to report their missing comrade.

Where’s Peppy?

The party who had already returned from their earlier adventure finds the second party in much dire straits just outside the Keep gates. With a little help from their friends, they are able to get their injured members safely back inside.

Sabine is at her post, tending the front gates as normal. She sees Magdal and the others, eventually inquiring as to how this unfortunate event happened. She checks off names in her book, looking up with a concerned expression. "Your group is one short. There was another who left with you. Did they get lost out there?" She winces, unsure if she really wants to know the truth.

Bugs looks over the exhausted Stobart, Magdal, and Pimlan after their long trudge home, unsure if he should try any more recruiting before he heads out to the river in the dark of night.
