The police and rescue services arrive and take care of the agents, Dr. Death and the hostages freeing the heroes to worry about the next crisis. The Stronghold agents take away the gloves of Dr. Death before they cuff him. Knight Light, Grimm, Wind Dragon, Azir and Sidestep are together all outside the bank.

Umbra and Eclipse are still up in the air, but with knowledge that the explosion is 45 miles away there is not much they can see even at that height (other than the mushroom-like cloud that is starting to break up.)

Agent McGinley back on the comms that everyone except Sidestep hears - "Something about this is not smelling right. Azir as the team leader I would recommend that you and three or four others check this out and two or three of you should stay in the city in case this is a trick. Please loop in Sidestep to this conversation."

CHiP comes in almost over the top of Agent McGinley, "Location calculated, this explosion is at the 'Military Affairs Department' Building in Joliet, Illinois."

"WHISHT...CHiP are you sure, please recalculate" says Agent McGinley

"Calculations confirmed." says the AI.

"Now we’re suckin’ diesel! There is or was there something above my pay grade. Project DAGGER. Let me see what I can find out. McGinley out.”

Sidestep nods to Grimm, ”Thank you sir. I saw the smoke from the explosion when I was at the quarry. I can teleport there now and I can take a passenger if one of you want to start evaluating the scene while I start bringing the rest of the team over. Sorry it’ll have to be one at a time. Unless there’s a faster way to get us there?”

Sidestep is able to get the group of four heroes to cross about 45 miles in about 30 seconds. He takes Azir, Wind Dragon and then Eclipse comes down and goes last. The journey takes only about 3 seconds, but Sidestep is clearing preparing in some fashion before each teleport between the two locations.

Sidestep is able to land the group a safe distance from the Military Affairs Department Building in Joliet, Illinois. At this point is unclear the cause of the explosion. (In addition to the image there are some things that are not in the picture) There are two helicopters that flying this way from the east and overhead in perhaps 10-12 seconds. Most of the traffic in the area is stopped or no longer on the road. The first fire truck just arriving on the scene and it is escorted by three military jeeps. There is a group of small children running for the park perhaps wearing a green school? uniform (left side of the image) and there are dozens of people exiting the building gathering in the parking lot (image foreground). Lots of these people are injured and in the need of medical attention. The source (or type!) of the explosion is not known. The large black mushroom cloud has started to be less structured and more diffuse.

The group is on top of a three story building about a block away (to the south).

Azir will try to look the area over carefully for anybody that stands out as shouldn't be there/doing what they are.

Azir, absolutely. I will begin located people that need to be moved to a hospital. Could one of you use these comm thingies to alert the nearest hospital to begin preparing for the incoming injured. Let them know I will teleport them to the ambulence bay.

Sidestep focuses on the area in front of the building near where the people appear to be gathering and once again the area surrounding him shimmers like the air rising off of asphalt on a hot summers day. Then with a bright orange flash he teleports down to the parking lot.

I’m Sidestep and I’m here to help. Please remain calm. Sidestep begins trying to figure out who’s in the most dire need to be taken to the hospital.

Assuming Sidestep can hear CHiP

CHiP, how about this. Contact the emergency response coordinator for this city/region and have them coordinate with the area hospitals. I can move patients to multiple hospitals as needed. So no one location gets overwhelmed. Then when they notify you that they’re ready to receive a patient give me a heading and distance to the hospital. At the same time have someone in the emergency room destination wave an orange hazmat vest next to the bed they want me to teleport the patient to. That’ll speed up the process as I try to locate the right room in a given hospital. Also it would probably be a good idea for one of the hospitals to provide us with some people I can bring back here that can start triage on site.

The Crusaders being heroes springs into action.

CHiP and Sidestep are having a conversation through Azir. CHiP takes a moment and says "The nearest hospital is Ascension Saint Joseph - Joliet. This is about a km to the east and 1/2 km to the north. The second closest is the Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. This is about 16 km to the East by North-East."

Wind Dragon and Eclipse are studying the fire and smoke, it is obvious to the duo that there are not only lots of man-made products in the fire, but the fire also has a fair number of heavy metals, enough that things are visible to the duo.

Azir is watching the people react. A second and third fire vehicles are arriving, also being escorted by military jeeps. People trying to escape the burning building and starting to gather in the parking lot. In addition, she notices the children in the green, disappear one by one almost like they are walking behind a wall - the only problem there is no wall at that location in the park. With her focus on these children she notices that as the last two disappear, that they are both bald. The last one turns in your direction, and it is clearly is not a child, but someone that is about 1m tall, in a green costume with with suns on the chest.

CHiP, as I said, coordinate with both hospitals and any others with my range. They have people that handle this sort of thing. If I start bringing a new patient to one hospital every minute they’re going to get overwhelmed.
