Bryne dashed through the trees as the screams echoed ahead, Torvik maintained a close pace behind and the two warriors Athan and Kade tried hard to keep up in their heavy armor. Just ahead, Bryne could make out a clearing and beyond a rocky hill and as she caught sight of it the screaming abruptly stopped. Her momentum kept her moving even as she saw the horrific sight in the clearing ahead.
The creature's maw opened and yowled at the sight of Bryne, bits of saliva and blood dripping from it's mouth. Blood stained its teeth and matted fur around those crimson fangs. A man lay before beast bitten in two and one massive paw crushed his chest as it began to move forward in the clearing. Beyond you see a cave and in the cave's dark opening you catch sight of two emerald colored eyes that match the beast that is now moving slowly towards you.

Thena now sees the magician's intent as the knife moves forward to strike De'Ath in the face. She also sees Mediphera leap with amazing speed between the blade and the child. And then she sees the point of the blade emerge from Mediphera's chest, her eyes wide as she starts to fall.
On the stage the magician begins to shout words that neither she nor Mave and Niserie comprehend. He loosens the grip of the woman on the stage with him and she starts to collapse flecks of her skin falling away like dead leaves from from tree in autumn.
Mave's eyes see none of this watching her brother stalk away and her parents standing alone. But they are alone for but a moment, as a piercing cry sounds throughout the fairgrounds like a thunderclap. Mave has but a moment to try and take in the next few seconds as a great black shape with emerald eyes leaps upon her mother sending her to the ground and engulfing her body in the dark fur of the six-legged beast who's emerald eyes almost mesmerize her to inaction. Suddenly screams erupt around her in the audience before the stage and those throughout the fairgrounds who catch sight of the great cat now amongst them.

Nis quickly interposes herself between the magician and her allies. GUARDS! MURDERER! THE MAGICIAN IS A KILLER! she shouts at the top of her lungs before crouching over her new friend. She gives Medephira a reassuring smile. Placing one hand beside the blade she whispers a quiet prayer, the healing glow seeping into her body as she draws the knife out with the other hand. Though it was not devils they faced the barbed points on the bottom of their tentacles made those who saw them think of devils with their barbed tails. Bryne sent two arrows flying at the dark beast and both whizzed past its form as she reloaded unsure if she even came close to its true position. Torvik, whether through the keen eyesight of his kin fighting such creatures in the darkness below managed to hit the thing with his crossbow. It seemed to even surprise the creature as it whirled its emerald colored eyes in his direction for a moment before Kade and Athan came darting out of the woods drawing its ire.
Athan with Zenith in hand charges in to strike out at where he thinks the thing crouches but it astounded as his sword cuts through only air where he thought the thing stood. Kade likewise strikes out and misses it when he was sure he was going to connect.
The beast focuses on the two warriors as their attacks hit at where it isn't, and twirls its tentacles one towards each of them striking with fury at the two. The pointy ridge beneath the tentacles pierce both warriors' armor inflicting minor damage to each of them.
Behind the beast what appears to be a smaller version of the creature emerges from the cave burying its maw into the dead man's stomach and tearing a chunk free swallowing it in one gulp. It then turns it eyes to the two who are attacking its larger version and starts moving toward them.

Thena and Mave seemingly run towards each other for a moment before they pass each other each running at a furious pace. Thena closer to her target barrels through the audience knocking townsfolk out of the way if they get in her way, before executing a leap onto the stage and into the magician sending both falling to the stage floor the mage in the crusader's grasp.
Mave rushes furiously quicker than any others to reach the beast and though she strikes out at where her eyes tell her it should be, she find her strike hitting nothing. She stares for a moment as two tentacles swing in her direction and then quickly dodges both attacks as she hears her brother shout, "GUARDS!" from somewhere to her right.
As blood pours from the wound around Mediphera, De'Ath screams and places her hands on both Mediphera and Niserie calling out in Vagary.
The magician makes no effort to break free from Thena's hold, though he tilts his head up so they are cheek to cheek as he whispers a single word, "Farmeciv," and then his tongue licks her cheek and she feels what almost feels like a mosquito bite. In the background she can hear Niserie attempting to heal Mediphera and as both of the women look at the magician he sees to turn black for a moment and his form splits apart into a swarm of large flies the size of horseflies which swarm upward around Thena and she suddenly feels nauseous, as they pass around her rising into the sky.

Hoping that her mother is still alive beneath the beast, she will continue to try to draw its attention to herself. Using her blade she strikes yet again at the creature.

Loudly, "Use your detect evil on it!"
I know a Paladin's Detect Evil does not detect alignment in most cases but maybe it would in the case of an evil monster that we caught in the act of killing a humanoid. Since Bryne knows some about them and is a Ranger she will not allow a LE semi-intelligent predator to just wander off this close to a settlement of any type, she will fight to the death.
Assuming that Bryne knows a Paladin could detect evil.If not ignore this post.

Athan tells the creature to protect its cub, whether it understood his words is doubtful, but it was intent on doing that very thing, by killing the interlopers to their home. While they discus if they should attack and Kade hesitates as he hears his commander speak, the beast doesn't slow its attacks, each tentacle striking out again at the two warriors before her. Athan deftly moves and avoids the attack but Kade is not so lucky as the tentacle again hits him staggering him back as he attempts to feebly attack back at the thing.
Bryne and Torvik deciding to continue attacking the beast put an arrow and bolt into it's hide while Athan moves in for a deadly attack causing the beast to yowl in pain. The younger beast moves to protect his wounded mother moving to her side and readying its own tentacles to defend her.

Thena draws her sword the nausea coursing through her tall frame and sees De'Ath and Niserie tending to Mediphera. Her eyes watch the young girl touch Niserie as she casts her healing spell. Niserie feels a previously unfelt energy course through her body at De'Ath's touch as her healing spell flows into Mediphera sealing the wound and mending the injuries. Then Thena's eyes catch sight of Mave in the distance for a moment facing the beast alone. She sees her sword strike out and barely miss the thing as it threatens to overwhelm her.
And then she sees a strange woman dressed in scaled armor and accompanied by two Vagary men in leathers move in to attack the creature. Joining Cosima's attack from the rear come the Gull Guardsman Captain and one of his men, and from the other side rushes Mave's brother sword in hand. Mave's mother lies crumpled behind the beast who has now moved off her. Her white dress now stained with blood as Lord Gallowhawk moves to pick her up, calling for the remaining guards to surround him. Though all of them attack none seem to be able to actually touch the beast. From the corner of her eyes she sees Morwen and Liviel pushing their way through the crowd. Morwen sword in hand runs toward the beast while Liviel stops and begins to speak arcane words.
