Here's a place we can chat about game stuff that isn't actually in the game. Things like introductions, you're welcomes, apologies, and general "stuff" as the spirit moves.

As of Sep. 18 we have JR, Bruce, Eric, and Frank as players.

I'm going to make the first post to the first game thread shortly. As soon as you know your PC's name you can drop into the thread and as you know more you can add more detail.

Not really, but

As an Adventurer, you start with a basic kit of items to help get you going.

The Adventurer’s Kit includes the following items:

a bedroll,
fint & steel,
a belt pouch,
a rucksack,
a lantern,
an empty waterskin,
oil,
a rope (50 feet),
rations,
a torch,
simple clothing,
a cloak,
either no or light leather armor (your choice)

Beyond these items, tell me what your PC is wanting to buy and I'll tell you if they can find it and how much it will cost. As a general rule of thumb, though:

Light Melee Weapons (dagger, short sword, rapier, hand ax, mace, etc): 1 to 10+ gold
Heavy Melee Weapons (two-handed swords, great axes, spears, etc): 10 to 20+ gold
Ranged Weapons (slings, bows, crossbows, etc): 1 to 15+ gold
+depends on quality of the weapon

Leather Armor: 5 to 10 gold
Chain Armor: 50 to 100 gold
Half Plate Armor: 100 to 300 gold
Plate Armor: 500 to 1000 gold

Common Items: 1 to 10 gold
Uncommon Items: 10 to 20 gold
Rare Items: 20 to 50 gold
Magical Items: 50 to several hundred gold

I have Aislin's and Malbek's character sheets (mostly) posted in the Game Resources/Character Sheet thread. I don't know if Bruce or Frank can add copies of the templete sheet directly to the post there. If not, I'll have to add them when I have your PC's names. JR, Aislin's spells were randomly rolled, if you really want different ones tell me and we'll change that.

I don't know if any of you can edit these sheets yourselves from the forum post, if not, I can make changes for you. You'll all need to choose some Traits and maybe some more things like weapon groups you trained in, mastered weapons, spells, etc.

Everybody starts with an Adventurer's Kit and no or leather armor, which is pretty much all your need for now, but if you want to buy something else before boarding the boat heading upstream tell me and I'll tell you how much and we'll add items to your sheets. 3d6 for gold to start so you don't have deep pockets for purchases.

Do we start with weapons mastered?

Dwarf and Elf each get a weapon mastery without weapon group training. Is that basically an exception to the normal mastery rules?

Yes, Dwarf and Elf get a specific weapon mastered, but not the entire group. You have to take that as a separate thing. Fighter gets a group as it's bonus while Clerics and MU's get other things.

Okay, you get the War Hammer (2handed) as part of Dwarf/Cleric heritage for free. I'll add the sling. You won't have to track stones/bullets until I tell you...unlikely during this adventure.

I'll wait to advance things until tomorrow, Wed 27th, to give Bob a chance to make a character and join in the fun.

Bob, all you need is a name and heritage (Human, Dwarf, Elf, Halfling) to make your intro post to the game. So, do that as soon as you can. The rest of your character can be filled into the Character Sheets up in Game Resources.

Far be it from me to turn you away from any sort of direction you want to go, but they are expecting you in Old Bridge sooner rather than later and that's how you're going to get paid...not by chasing hungry Orcs.

BTW, I had decided to roll 2d6 for an "encounter" in Berm. It would occur on a 2, I rolled a 2, so I felt obligated to come up with one. The Orcs weren't entirely random, but they showed up much sooner in the game than I had anticipated.

I'm starting a new game here called Shadows in the Dark using Shadowdark RPG. The Quickstart is free and is all players need. It is to be a hex/dungeon crawl game, somewhat West Marches style. If any of you would like to join I'd love that.

So I will be going into surgery tomorrow (Friday). Its a 2-3 hour surgery and 2-3 days in the hosp with 3-5 weeks off work. Please npc me appropriately until I am more coherent.
