Quest #43 “The Next Obelisk?“

Loco Motion

A large group of adventurers break off from the main group at the tavern, hoping to get back to the business of killing monsters and taking their treasures.

The party of 9 exit the tavern through the once blocked portal, which leads them back into the lower levels inside the Funhouse plateau. From there they climb the square shaft stairs to reach the upper areas of the huge standing rock, finding no interference along the way.

Making their way to the steps carved into the side of the plateau, they descend through the jungle canopy to eventually find themselves at the bottom of the huge red rock base. The sheer mass of foliage and vegetation here is abundant, almost suffocating in some places, but at the very bottom edge of the steps, about dead center along its northern wall, a narrow but obvious path is found heading due north away from the plateau.

When the members who were here before search the wall where they found the crevasse cave earlier, they find no evidence of it ever existing before. That opening area has somehow reverted back to solid stone, without as much as a crack in its surface.

The Princess

As she walks along toward the now-missing cave wall she apologizes for the situation.

"What? Where did it go? It was right---aHHHGGAH" She drops to her knees and holds her head in agony. You see waves of pain course over her face. "Stop! Why!?" She sobs during the ebbs of the pain.

Finally, she stops, red-faced and teary, knees in the dirt, panting. The Princess looks at the others, seemingly unaffected. "Did you hear that? The yelling? The overwhelming noise? We need to hurry!"

"Nope, don't hear anything. Are you all right? Lead the way."

Wes

Wes looks as puzzled as his fellow druid. "Not a thing. You said yelling? Did you make out any words?"

[Monsieur Rose]

The Princess

She nods while taking a moment to wipe her face and steady her breathing. "Yes, I think so. A voice, familiar, 'Where are you going? I command you do something... Princess... follow the gem..."

"But overwhelming, like the voice was unable to control its volume, like trying something new. It got worse as it went on, more intense."

"Then we should follow the instructions, but be very alert for a trap."

"Are we sure that we want to follow the orders of a voice we don't know from where it comes?

Your Highness, is it the first time you hear of this? Is this voice not familiar to you in any way?"

Yrias strokes his black beard before adding: "Maybe it is related to our experiences back there in those dungeons? I hope the voice isn't from that supernatural being we talked with."

Lerrick

The cleric show a look of concern on her face. Normally she would go to a person aide when something happens. However, in this case she has no idea what to do or how to help. She simply adds to the conversation. I didn't hear anything either.


Cresty

The fighter takes a deep breath as soon as the return back to the island. The bugs and heat don't seem to bother him as much as they did before going to the strange place with all of the portals. As the others talk to the one called Princess he scans the area for potential threats.

Crack Kills

After witnessing a rather unpleasant mental attack upon their Princess, the group stands motionless along the side of the huge red rock plateau, looking down the trail that leads north into the jungle. Nobody else seems to be affected by the incident.

Glad to be surrounded by the heat and bugs again, though the latter do seem slightly easier to deal with in their smaller numbers, Cresty wisely stays alert, watching all around their current tight surroundings.

He begins to hear a muffled flapping noise from somewhere far up in the sea of branches. He can’t see what is making the noises, but it definitely seems to be getting louder as he listens.

Tlachtga tries to determine what it is (Druid identify animal).

She will ready her sling just in case.

Be alert all. I hear a flapping noise in the foliage. He equips his bow.

The cleric equips her sling.

Elnaerel looks around and gets her morning star ready.

Yrias unsheathes his two handed sword and stays alert.

Wake prepares his mace.

The Princess

She regathers her composure in time to notice everyone being on alert. "Flapping?" The Princess looks up and readies her blade.

"That's the first time that happened to me, but the voice was familiar. I don't think it was the Gold Highness guy, but almost as confident. It was distorted by the pain, though."

Wes looks at Mr Wrenly for any sign he's hearing a familiar voice.

Going Batty

As the party prepares for combat, the druids peer through the overhead branches to find a concerning scene. Bats. Big, furry bats. Each one about the size of a skinny halfling. Several hundred in number, slowly making their way down the tree into the lower branches.

They flutter and flap before grabbing a branch to perch under for a moment, before letting go and falling even lower still. They appear to be headed directly towards the groups current position, between the rock wall, the stairway behind them, and the dark path leading north into the jungle.

Mr. Wrenly stares back at Wes with real fear in his eyes, apparently about to bolt off into the jungle himself.

Elnaerel and Yrias keep their weapons ready, walking as silently as it is possible with their equipment and alternating their sight between the ground, to know where they're treading, and the giant bats.

[Monsieur Rose]

The Princess

"Time to go. North, into the jungle and towards the obelisk. There are too many and we don't have any nets."

The Princess starts walking, not yet running, to the north.
