I haven't been on here as much lately. I spent a lot of time on these boards for the first few years. More than I probably should have. Some days I'd do nothing but check my various games for updates. I probably approached posts-per-day records (with only the prolific GreyWolfVT as challenger). My PhD was probably delayed by several years thanks to the Unseen Servant.
So, um...thanks?
I was a right asshole to some of you—well, okay, many of you—with rules lawyering and general un-chillness about gaming. Sorry about that. I hope I've mellowed a bit.
A few games that stand out in all those years:
- Magnus's "Against the Giants" series set in Weteros (well before the events in A Game of Thrones) was a brilliant campaign concept, well run, and really engrossing.
- Keehnelf's West Marches and Marullus's North Marches sandboxes were truly the sprawlingest sandboxes. I have no idea how the DMs kept up with them (and alas, those games indeed burned out both DMs—at least Marullus has hung around to start up other games. Marullus, if you ever want to boot up the sandbox again, Lug is ready to roll!).
- AleBelly's Lone City in the Wildlands game was also really well-built and engrossing. Alas, it, too, sort of just died when the DM disappeared.
- Rukellian's Fabricator of Planes was really creative too. (A misunderstanding about how XP is allocated—Rukellian didn't split it among players, but granted each player the total experience—ended up creating a level progression that worked quite nicely in PbP).
- Inferno was really good at setting up atmosphere in A Horror at Briarsgate.
- So many Grognardsw games, but the one that stands out is The Palace of the Silver Princess. That was wacky.
- Speaking of wacky, greyarea ran a group through Expedition to the Barrier Peaks that was all it was cracked up to be and more.
- dmw71 has had too many games to name just one of them—and my characters even survived a some of them! (At least, I think they did.) Any reputation Dave has as a PC-killer is entirely deserved.
Oh, and thanks to max_vale and Norjax, who run the only games I'm "active" in these days. I put "active" in quotes because sometimes a couple of weeks or more will go by when I forget to log in and post, and they're pretty much cool with that—or at least pretend they are.
Lots of people have come and gone over those ten years. A few of the really good ones who stand out: Zorroroaster, Keehnelf, Alebelly, Rukellian...there are probably a lot more who I'm forgetting. But then there are the people who were here before I was and are still here. Foremost among them: ToniXX, who still keeps the place running after all this time. I'm amazed. Alethan, rredmond, dmw71—thanks for keeping this place going. It's great that this site is still going and active after all this time.
