On the coastal road at approximately 4:55-08:00 AM, June 17th, 1944, Island of Saipan

The arrival of more and more Marine Tanks, Tank Destroyers and troops with Bazookas made the night assault by the Japanese Armor come to a quick end....

While Acme was a bit disappointed that his team didn't get to take out any more Japanese armor themselves, he DID get the thrill of watching many, many 'booms' during the night....

Fletcher was taken to an aide station where some Navy Corpsmen quickly took good care of him and the rest of SST 4 got to lay down and either catch a couple of hours of shut-eye or just rest before the 5 remaining healthy members of the Team; Acme, Roker, Gurung, Tucker and Saul Rabinowitz woke up and shuffle dover to the mess tent to get some chow to start the day.....

While they were there, a young Army Corporal whose name tag read 'Greenwell' came over and asked, "Heya....are youse guys the Super Jar...err....Talents?" Acme replied that they were and he coughed and said, "Ahem....well, umm, Colonel Kelly, the 165th Regimental C.O., wants you guys to swing by as he's got a mission for you." Acme nodded and everyone quickly finished up and gathered up their gear....

As they headed over towards the Army HQ, located in an old Colonial Sugar Cane Plantation with a crumbling roof and a missing wall, but still, mostly intact. Several Army Officers and a number of runners and Radio Men were waiting to were to meet up with them....

Roker's interest is piqued. Why are there a bunch of radio men in the group they're meeting?

Acme

Marvin hunts out and finds the Colonel. "Colonel Kelly? What can we do for you, Sir?" He stands at attention but has learned to refrain from saluting in the field.

Saul inspects his M1's clip and inside the receiver for moisture, plant debris, and any foreign objects. He wipes steel with a handkerchief, loads cartridges into the clip, snaps it in place. These islands are just steam, rain and plants stuff on its way to turning into dirt. Overnight. Oh yeah, and mosquitoes. Can't forget about them. Because they sure aren't ever going to forget about you. He flicks the M1's safety to On and heads to the meeting. Safety first.

165th Regimental HQ to outskirts of Aslito Airfield, Island of Saipan, 8:00 to 8:45 AM, June 17, 1944; Island of Saipan

As the members of SST 4 arrive at the Headquarters of the Army's 165th Regiment; a 'full bird' Colonel rises up and walks over to them, introducing himself as Regimental Commander Gerard Kelley. Roker is a bit chagrinned to realize that the gathering of Radiomen wasn't anything special, apparently just normal for an Army Regimental HQ unit. The Army it seemed, had a BIT more technical toys at its disposal than did the USMC.....

Kelley addressed Acme and the rest; "Good to see you Major; hell good to see all of you boys. I was just talking with General 'Howlin' Mad' Smith on the horn there", he nods his head to the radio; "-he seems to have a personal fascination with you lot. After what just happened to SST 19; he decided to send you to us to help out with a little snag my 2nd Battalion appears to have run into. Private Greenwell will lead you to their C.O.; LT Colonel Harvick. I understand the 'snag' has to do with some Nip Talents.....best of luck to you fellas." He shakes everyone's hand, nods his head once and with that, Greenwell is soon leading you down a trail that lies along a general rise, leading closer and closer to the sounds of gunfire and rumbling sounds that signify battle.....

A good half-hour long walk later, the team members have worked up a sweat and then come out of a clearing and they can get their first look at the airfield and a ridge running away from it. Aslito Airfield isn't really much more than a wide, flat, grassy plain littered with the blasted wrecks of Japanese planes that were bombed or shelled before they had a chance to take off...

The ridge nearby isn't very high, perhaps 70-100 feet, but the western side facing you is fairly steep and it's obvious that the enemy is on the top of it. Occasional tracer fire comes from it, but much more obvious are the occasional small clouds from which comes forth rain and lightning bolts AND a heavy layer of clearly unnatural Purple-Colored Smoke. As SST 4 moves towards the American positions near the base of the Ridge, all of the Talents can feel/hear/smell the Japanese Talents Powers in action....

Greenwell leads you to a small CP (Command Post) where a short, shaky looking Army LT Colonel named Harvick nods nervously to him and then to Acme, barely meeting his eyes for but a moment or two. The 'feel' of Talent powers goes away and the whining sound of a couple of Mortar rounds being fired from the top of the ridge can be heard and Harvick soons dives to cover, even though the shells don't impact anywhere NEAR the CP. Greenwell, embarrassed, takes that chance to slip away, while a veteran Army NCO, smoking a cigarette shakes his. head in disgust at his CO and nods for them to move over a bit to talk to him...

The senior Army NCO, a SGT Major named Ostrum, clearly in his 40s and whose SEEN a lot, just nods at all of you, but he has a hard look in his eyes. "Sheeeet, as it the situation ain't bad enough with the Nip freaks on that ridge", here he points back towards the ridge top, "-now the Jar-Heads send us our OWN freaks? Hell.....well, it ain't no real secret what needs to happen...we need to clear out the top of that Ridge....which normally wouldn't be too hard as there ain't more than 30 or so troops up there with a Woodpecker or two and a couple of 81s"; he clearly means Type 92 machineguns and 81mm mortars; "-but them FREAKS are the problem. They got one that can create storms and turn the Ridge into a mudslide and fry you with lightning and another that can create Purple Smoke clouds, which makes it awfully damn hard for our planes or Arty to zero in on them. Ain't that right swabby Frank?" he says to a man who just came walking over.

"Oh shut up you ol' Dog-Face" the veteran U.S. Navy sailor replies to which Ostrum angrily replies, "That's SERGEANT MAJOR to you Queen!" and seems about to say more as his face goes all purple with rage, but then he chokes it down and he waves a hand dismissively, "Whatever....just, you lot figure out how to take out them freaks and we'll take it from there"; and he storms off.....

Frank Queen introduces himself and his tale is quite interesting. He's in his 30s and was originally a Gunner's Mate, he currently is a GM 1st class in rank, junior to Roker and Tucker in rank, but clearly he's been serving a lot longer. He had been a sailor on a River Gunboat in China before the War and then slowly made his way back to the 'blue water' Navy and in November of '42, he had been in the fierce Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, working on the guns of a U.S. Battleship as a fierce surface action was being fought. HIs Talent Powers had manifested there and he was soon sent to 'Hell's Motel' in early '43.

His Talent Powers were Hyper Coordination (i.e. Hyper DEX) and a minor ability to Heal Others. He had been assigned to SST 19 and he saw action in both New Guinea and at Cape Gloucester. He had been promoted to Chief, but a bar fight with some Marines in Hawaii saw him spend a few nights in the Brig and get busted back down in rank. More recently, his Team of 6 Talents had been assigned to support the Army's 27th Division for the invasion of Saipan and they had seen quite a bit of action the past couple of days....

He had lost one teammate during the initial invasion and then earlier today, attacking the Ridge, two more and another badly wounded. Frank explains; "Our Team Leader was a Marine Captain named Martinez and he got sniped by an IJA Talent Sniper when we were barely 20 feet up the Ridge. A Nip Blaster Talent then fried poor Edwards and I was able to gun him down; then Louie Loucks was able use his TK power to throw the Sniper off the Ridge, but in doing so, he exposed himself enough that the Japanese 'Rain Storm' guy was able to fry him and Wallichek who was right next to him with a Lightning Bolt. Wally was instantly KIA, but Louie was still alive, but bleeding like a stuck pig."

"Then a Japanese guy who could fly showed himself, throwing some kind javelins or something, JUST missed Louie, but Loucks was able to use his eye beams to burn his wing and when he crashed to the ground, I finished him off with Gretchen here", he nods to a big, modified Lewis Gun at his side. "The last Talent then covered him and the Storm Guy with that purple smoke and I was able to heal Loucks enough to stabilize him and dragged him back here."

Queen looks up at Acme, "Major, the dog-face....err.....Army commander, Harvick...he's suffering from Shell-Shock and Ostrum, well he don't like nobody who ain't Army, but he's been around...he ain't gonna get a lot of his boys butchered by just charging up the ridge. Anyways....the dog-face Medics saved Louie, though he ain't gonna be walking any time soon, so I owe those bastards and well....I'm with you sir", he finished up with a nod and putting on his old, pre-War style 'dish-pan' helmet and readying his modified Lewis Gun.....

OOC: Okay, basically, the ridge (about 200 yards awway) has a steep slope on the side facing you and thick jungle foliage on the reverse slope and is about 70-100 feet to the top. On the top of it are about 30 Japanese troops with apparently 2 Type 92 MGs, 2 81mm Mortars and 2 Talents; one who can generate Storms that can use Lighting Bolts and make the sides of the slope muddy and slippery and another who generate large fields/clouds of Purple Smoke....

"I do appreciate the sniper being taken out, i've never been in a sniper battle, but I need to learn some more. From the look of things there is some flat land to the right, we could get a ride nearby, drop off and walk up the ridge from where they are not expecting anyone. I don't want to advance up the mudslide. Maybe have the LT's men increase fire to draw their attention, Sir?"

Cpl. Saul Rabinowitz
I don't like the idea of trying to climb the slippery slope either. I'm not much for riding vehicles toward combat. You're making noise, and you're all sitting in there in one neat package for the enemy's sights. And you can't see out to see who might be seeing you. So I'd want good plan for the route, and a smart guy driving.

Roker lets the others strategize, assuming that when someone needs scaring, their throat ripped out, or contacting via radio (probably not the same person), they'll let him know.

Acme

Marvin has a mind to introduce Wolf-Roker to Ostrum, but a sparkle in his eye is all he does. "Is the smoke hazardous?" Is his first question, but he has more.

"I'm with you all. Climbing the ridge in full sight isn't going to fly. What are the flanks like?" He moves to view the terrain map in the command tent.

"We either come from the rear, through the jungle, or from the flanks, through the jungle. Unless anyone wants to be air-dropped in?"

165th Regimental HQ to outskirts of Aslito Airfield, Island of Saipan, 8:45 to 8:50 AM, June 17, 1944; Island of Saipan

The members of SST 4 talked with each other and Ostrum and some of the others from the 165th about the current situation and it quickly became clear that any attempt to use the flanks would be easily visible to the Japanese on the top of the Ridge, who could bring their Mortars and MGs to rain fire on them. That left the heavy jungle on the reverse side of the slope, which would be tough slogging to say the least....

In talking with their newest member Frank Queen about the best way to approach the current problem and the veteran Sailor asked about each of the team member's Talent Powers and he perked up upon hearing about Saul's ability to blend in with his surroundings and Tucker's ability to turn Invisible. "Hey....okay, we can work with that! So, I can switch on my Power and use Gretchen here, along with some of these Dog-Faces-", "Watch your tongue you Swabbie piece of sh-" SGT Major Ostrum angrily interrupted before a look from Acme caused the veteran Army NCO to shut up with a glowering stare at Queen, who gave a tight grin and continued....

"-anyways, we can pour fire on the top of the Ridge, keep their attention.....including hopefully the Rain-Maker and the Smoke Machine.....youse two can slip up the Ridge and get in position to launch an assault....I'd suggest 'nades first and hopefully taking out the Talents, especially Lightning Guy. When that happens, they should be all out of sorts and then we can all go charging up the Ridge and swamp the platoon of them with our sheer numbers. Oh yeah Skipper, that Purple Smoke don't hurt anything....more than a few coughs anyway..."

Acme looked at Roker and the others and they all shrugged and nodded at each other.....seemed like as good a plan as any.....

"I know that you two are up for it. Just know that we will be right behind you as soon as the first grenade goes off."

Marvin looks pained that he won't join the covert assault, but he knows his own limitations.

Outskirts of Aslito Airfield, Island of Saipan, approximately 8:50-09:15 AM, June 17, 1944; Island of Saipan

After a quick 'pow-wow' with the boys of the 165th; Elias Tucker and Saul Rabinowitz are given a couple of extra 'pine-apples' (you each have 4 grenades now) and watches are synched up as a plan is quickly put together. At exactly 09:00, the two Talents are to activate their Talent Powers and go up the the left side of the ridge, which is fairly easy terrain, yet has a few boulders and tree stumps and shell holes that can be used as cover if necessary while the rest of the group moves across the bottom of the ridge to the right, firing on the top the whole time. It's estimated that by 09:15, the two Talents should be near the top and in position to start hurling grenades and when those go off, the 2nd Battalion of the 165th would charge up the right slope of the ridge and swamp the Japanese position....

Taking deep breaths, Elias and Saul move to the far left side carefully and staying low and as out of sight as possible, aided by a few smoke grenades thrown here and there; which were also tossed in other directions to keep the Japanese watching unaware of exactly what was going on......

At precisely 09:00, Frank Queen lets out a yell and cuts loose a burst from his BAR as he rushes across the front of the ridge, followed by a massive cacophony of sound as the rest of the Army Battalion does the same thing and soon, the 'woodpecker' sounds of the two Japanese Type 92 MGs and the whistling of the Mortars being fired from the enemy on the top of the ridge could be heard, all directed at the quickly moving massive body of troops....

Major Acme led the rest of SST 4 with the 165th, following behind Queen, ducking here and there as a stray Arisaka round zipped by and hoping Elias and Saul were doing okay as the newly familiar feeling of Queen's Talent Power being Activated washed over them; followed a moment later by the Activation of of the Japanese Talent Powers on top of the ridge....

Sure enough, Purple Smoke began obscuring several of the muzzle flashes of the Japanese positions and then a rain cloud formed over a section of the Army Battalion and with a crash of thunder, a lightning bolt flashed and a pair of soldiers cried out as they were fried by the powerful bolt of energy.....

Gurung

Gurung will activate his armor, then advance using the cover from the smoke and staying low. Trying to get as close as he can before having to take cover.

He will use enough WP to guarantee he activates Armor.
