Elias heads over to the flame thrower and introduces himself.

"Elais Tucker, sniper, Coast Guard. How long have you been here <Rank>?"

Elais knows how important this man is and plans to be his buddy/bodyguard unless assigned elsewhere.

"Sir, I have a question, with the bush on both sides, are we suppose to walk down ambush alley there? Or are we to clear the whole area with 30 guys and promises of artillery?"

Elias has no snark in him when he askes.

Elais Tucker

Acme

"That's why we're walking alongside the cliff, Tucker." He chuckles as he continues. "So now we have hidden entrenched spots in the cliff instead of the foliage."

"Much better." He winks and makes sure everyone is on alert, keeping a group watching the jungle as they go along the wall.

Saul doesn't envy the man carrying the flamethrower. A bullet or shrapnel to the tank and it could become a fireball. Which is why many Marines stay as far away as possible from a flamethrower. But that likely won't be very possible in a cave.

Roker yet again has fond thoughts of being a simple radio operator in a (relatively) safe ship. He follows along with the others, trying to stay as close to the wall as he can.

'Death Valley' in the plateaus near the base of Mt. Tapotchau in the central part of the island of Saipan at approximately 11:30 AM on 25 June, 1944

The 'Valley Cleaners' platoon composed of some 22 Army soliders and the half-dozen Talents of SST 4 set off on their mission, a group of 4 out in front; then the 'main body' of 20 people and a flanking group of 4 walking 'the Drag' at the rear as they moved slowly along the left hand side of the steep walls of the valley. It wasn't long before they stirred up some trouble.....

The quartet out front consisted of a pair of Army PFCs; one 'Skinny' Simpkins and a 'Tex' Mathers; a Corporal with a BAR named Trudeau and the Gurkha Talent Gurung. They were moving through the knee high scrub plants, the occasional small tree or shrub in their path, avoiding the obvious, beaten down track that snaked its way through the center of the Valley and then a flurry of Arisaka shots echoed out from the cliff wall in front of them, perhaps 75 yards away....

Simpkins dropped like a tree cut down, a round had passed through his head below the helmet line and his war was over in the blink of an eye. Trudeau caught a round in the chest and he stumbled and flopped to the ground, blood quickly staining his olive drab uniform and then starting to come up in racking coughs as he dropped his BAR and clutched his wound. A pair of shots zinged through the formation, hitting nothing and then a last, fifth shot tore a bloody line and bit of cloth from Gurung's left bicep, causing him to hiss in pain as he dropped to one knee and looked out towards the sound of the gunfire*....

Mathers yelled out in his Texan accent; "AMBUSH! I'LL GET HELP!" and he took off to race back to the main body as Gurung looked ahead and all around him quickly. He saw a cave opening in the Valley Wall, perhaps 10 feet up off the Valley floor and with some scrub plants along the edges. The 5 or more Japanese troops were DEFINITELY firing from there. He also noted a scrub tree a few yards away that might serve as some cover.....

The Arisaka shots echoed, but much more quietly amongst the 20 troops/Talents of the 'Main Body' and Acme and co. knew immediately that the vanguard some 20 yards ahead of them had been fired upon. A moment later, a breathless Army PFC named 'Mathers' came racing up and quickly started talking first to Morris and then a moment later, turned to include Acme as well. "SARGE! WE BEEN AMBUSHED!", he took a few gulping breaths as the Staff Sergeant snapped at him, "GET IT TOGETHER TEX! TELL THE MAJOR TOO YOU IDJIT!" "Right, sorry sir! Up ahead, somewhere in the left Cliff Wall, maybe 50 to 100 yards out some Nip Riflemen opened up on us. Everyone else on Point was hit, Simpkins is definitely done for....maybe Trudeau too. I don't think your Super was hit too bad, Major....but we need to help 'em out quick!"

Morris turned to one of his soldiers and send, "Brown, go get the rear-guard up here, double-quick!" "Roger that Sarge!", Brown said and he quickly took off. The veteran NCO then waved the rest of the unit over as he turned to Acme, "Well, Major....whatcha wanna do?"

*Gurung is Wounded, he's at -1D to all actions until treated. He's got some cover near by, he can also tell that Trudeau is hurt bad, but still alive at the moment. The cave entrance where the Japanese troops are is a tough shot to hit somebody as he can't really see anyone through the foliage and the darkness of the Cave at this range.

Gurung

Gurung will activate his Armor, spending as many WP as necessary. He races to the shrub cover and goes prone. Once there he will try and get a shot off at someone in the cave.

Acme

"Probably from those blasted caves." Marvin exclaims as the patrol switches to assault.

"Right. Tucker will provide some cover for our approach. Rabinowitz, good idea on the camo. Get a good line of sight and take the shot, or even grenade it. Roker and I will take a group of 6 to push forward and get to Gurung. When the rear guard arrives, the rest of you push as well. Keep some fire on the cave while you advance."

Acme points out those that he wants to push with him and nods. "Let's go clean that cave."

He suggests half the assault group fire while the others advance, then switch until we get to Gurung and Trudeau.

Elias will move up with the group and when he sees the cave will move so his is in cover and concealment and turn on his focus and sight in the cave, looking for spotters or the mg.

'Death Valley' in the plateaus near the base of Mt. Tapotchau in the central part of the island of Saipan at approximately 11:35 AM on 25 June, 1944

In a narrow valley amongst the plateaus near the base of the highest mountain on Saipain, a U.S. Army platoon led by a Squad of Talents came under fire from a group of Japanese troops firing from a hidden position in a cave along one of the side walls of the valley.....

Rifleman Gurung ignored the pain of his wound and he summoned up the will to activate his Armor Talent Power and a moment later, his body was covered in hard, snake-like scales and he moved quickly to some cover, hearing one rifle shot zip past his body and another glance off his protected flesh as he dove behind the rocks, hearing yet a third shot slam into the rocks and ricochet safely away from him. He then brought up his Enfield Rifle and he fired a shot at the cave entrance, but the distance and well protected cave mouth meant his shot did NOT hit any of the IJA troops that were using the cave as a concealed place to launch their ambush from. A moment later, he head to curse as the last two of the 5 Japanese troops in the cave fired upon Trudeau, the wounded BAR man, one narrowly missed while the other put another round in the man's torso and the automatic rifleman fell to the ground, this time KIA....

Major Acme quickly gave his orders to the troops with him and two of his Talents quickly broke off; the first was Elias Tucker who moved off to one side and raised his Scoped Springfield Rifle while activating his Focus Talent Power and a moment later the Coastguardsman was able to see through the scope the narrow, about 10 foot high off the ground cave mouth with some foliage in the way and in which 5 Japanese soldiers were crouching behind boulders, leaning against the walls of the cave and in one case, lying prone to fire their Arisaka Rifles and Carbines out of.....

The second Talent to break of was Corporal Saul Rabinowitz, who activated his Camouflage Talent Power and blending in with the foliage and dirt fo the valley, he moved quickly towards the cave, staying low as he did so. He got within about 80 yards of the cave mouth, seeing it some 10 feet off the ground and a good defensive position and some 5 yards away he saw the fallen bodies and he saw and heard Gurung activate his Talent Power, move to some rocks for cover and fire his Enfield Rifle. The Marine could also feel Tucker activating his Power behind him, but so far the Coastie hadn't opened fire....

Meanwhile, Major Acme nodded to Chief Roker and turned to gather up half a dozen men, when Queen stepped forward without a word needing to be said, his modified Lewis Gun ready to go while SSGT Morris just motioned to Brown, a BAR armed man named Faletta and the Flame-Thrower equipped man, whose name was Hyams. With a quick nod, the 6 moved forward as the rest of the Platoon was coming together. Queen and Faletta both fired suppressing fire from their fully automatic weapons; their shots missing the cave mouth, but echoing loudly and hitting the rocks and foliage all around it as the rest of the group moved forward......

OOC: Okay, Tucker can fully see the situation inside the cave; there are 5 IJA troops, 3 with full length Arisaka Rifles, 2 with shorter Arisaka Carbines, all in good cover.....so it's a Difficult shot to hit any of them. Saul is almost up to Gurung's position and these 3 are all basically around 75-80 yards away. Coming up behind them by about 10-15 yards is the Half-Dozen that include Acme, Roker, Queen, and the 3 Army soliders: Brown (Tex) with an M1 Garand; Faletta with a BAR and Hyams with the Flamethrower. The Flamethrower's range is basically 25/50/100 yards.

Gurung

Gurung will scream at the top of his lungs to try and get the Japanese attention, then he pops up and fires 3 rounds into the cave and drops back down again.

Camoflauged Saul makes his way to the dropped BAR and takes it and the ammo belt. He looks for a better defensive position to move to and readies to fire quick bursts of automatic fire at targets in the cave.
MECHANICAL: 3D
-Heavy weapons: 4D
If the BAR doesn't count as a heavy weapon, he'll move to the defensive position he sees and use his Garand from where he is, rather than taking the BAR.

'Death Valley' in the plateaus near the base of Mt. Tapotchau in the central part of the island of Saipan at approximately 11:40 AM on 25 June, 1944

SST 4 and their understrength platoon of Army soldiers continued their attempts to deal with the group of 5 IJA troops firing on them from a concealed cave with good cover.....

First, an 'armored up' Gurung rose up screaming and fired his Enfield 3 times in rapid succession, mostly hoping to just get the enemy's attention so that the others could take advantage to get into a better position to deal with the problem. His tactic kind of worked as 3 of the enemy, including two Riflemen and one of the Carbine wielders turned his way. The Gurkha soldier exhibited tremendous accuracy and managed to wing one of the Riflemen in the arm, causing the IJA trooper to twist and yell in pain and have his own shot going flying off into the valley. The other two were more accurate with one Arisaka 6.5mm round buzzing right past Gurung's head while the other ricocheted off his scaly chest, causing a brief stinging sensation and what he knew would be a bruise later in the day....

A camouflaged Saul moved to the fallen BAR soldier and picked up his weapon and he fired off half the 20 round magazine at the cave entrance. He wasn't really trying to hit anyone, just force them to duck their heads as Acme's group moved up and his plan worked as a pair of IJA troops who were leaning out to fire were forced to instead duck down as the heavy .30-06 rounds echoed off the rocks all around them....

Coastguardsman Elias Tucker kept his Talent Power of Hyper Focus 'on' and he continued to look through the scope and sighted one of the Carbine wielding troops as hopefully a Leader amongst the group of enemy soldiers. Watching the man duck from the suppressing fire that Saul sent his way, Tucker's tough shot became even harder, but he took a breath, let it go and sent a round down-range. He was THRILLED to watch his shot slam into the man's chest and cause him to fall back and out of sight......and he didn't get back up again.....

As Major Acme led his group of troops towards the Cave mouth, he nodded with appreciation as Rabinowitz moved to the dead soldier's BAR and cut loose some cover fire and he waved his 'assault team' forward as he stepped to one side and raised his Thompson to his shoulder and sighted down the weapon's barrel. He cut loose ten .45 rounds into the mouth of the cave and then he moved up as Faletta the Army soldier carrying a BAR did the same thing with the heavier weapon.....

Roker kept moving forward, staying low and he flinched a bit as the sound of Major Acme's Thompson cutting loose on full auto assaulted his ears and then a moment later, the deeper, more Bass heavy sound of a BAR doing the same thing hit him. The old China Sailor, Queen, broke from the group as he raced over to Gurung, slinging his modified Lewis Gun as he clearly intended to use his Healing power on the Gurkha Talent. Looking back to the front, he saw the Army solider who had come running back to them, the Texan and the Flame-Thrower guy move forward to get in range.....Tex drawing a grenade as he did so.....

Taking advantage of the suppressing fire; 'Tex' Brown raced forward, drawing a grenade as he did so and screaming something about avenging his fallen friends. SSGT Morris and Hyams, the Flame-thrower chased after him. Morris managed to grab the back of Brown's shirt and yank him back while yelling; "DAMNIT TEX, LET HYAMS BURN 'EM FIRST YOU IDJIT!"

A moment later, Hyams did exactly that, sending forth a wave of flame into the cave-mouth and quickly setting the vegetation around the narrow opening ablaze, along with the remaining Japanese troops. As the terrible screams came bellowing out, Brown yanked himself out Morris' grip and primed his grenade and tossed it in and between the two weapons, the enemy were quickly dealt with.....

Gurung turned quickly at the sound of someone rushing up and almost put a round through Queen before the sailor was able to gasp out with his hands raised, "WHOA THERE BUDDY, IT'S JUST ME, QUEEN! I'm....", huff....wheeze....."...just gonna treat that wound o' yours....", huff, pant...wheeze..., "If that's okay with you...."

OOC: at the moment, all the enemy are accounted for...

Saul slings his Garand and hangs onto the BAR for now. He checks the downed soldier for any ammunition for the rifle that he no longer needs.
