Hello there! Returning to PbP after 10 years!

#1 Post by CharlieBurnsow »

Hi everyone!

It is a pleasure to be able to introduce myself to this community. I have to say, that I felt this childish joy when I realized that the PbP format is still alive with an active community creating unforgettable stories. The thing is, I greatly enjoyed PbP in my teenage years, participating in homebrew campaigns, and running multiple 1-on-1 campaigns as well. After I started university my old group of friends that we mainly played with dedicated their time to different passions and for a very long time I thought that... this was the end! Hundreds of pages written across multiple campaigns, a plethora of characters, heroes and heroines battling and beating armies of villains and antagonists surrendering to the insignificant void of our memories. How wrong I was. Hopefully, it was just a break between the chapters!

Since then, I played DN 5e for a couple of years - as a player and DM. Each time it was great fun but I was lingering for another PbP session. So I am coming here in peace and also to learn. I've spent the majority of my time playing storytelling-based campaigns with minor usage of dice. I hope to learn soon how to implement dice in PbP efficiently and not lose the storytelling freedom and its pacing.

I am keeping my eye out for some sort of beginner-friendly campaign in 5e (although I am open to new systems as long as DMs do not mind my initial ignorance). I simply would not like to intrude on anyone's story and disrupt their flow.

When it comes to the player I am - I don't mind playing an introverted detective that paid a great price for his intellect as well as a 7'5" Barbarian that uses books merely as fuel to survive cold nights out in the green steeps.

Additionally, as some might have noticed already or not, English is not my native language so this whole thing is a great creative journey to me. Who knows what will find in the end - it's the journey that matters, right?

Have a lovely day, everyone :)

Welcome CB! It’s a great place to play.
As you may have noticed your first two posts are Moderated. But after that you can post without delay, send PMs and join games!

Again, welcome to Unseen Servant!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Welcome Charlie!

Your English seems better than most of us native speakers.

Have fun looking around and just ask if you have any questions.

Real friendly group here.

Welcome Aboard Charlie!

Your English looks better than mine and English is my native language so I wouldn't worry about that at all.

My HarnMaster game leans more towards story telling but it is a crunchy system with a very involved character generation system that is not for most. Feel free to look it over. Also, with story telling I feel that it is more about the players/DM then the game system.

Welcome! Your English is just fine, and every DM I've seen here works very hard to integrate new players. Most of the time, you don't even need the rules! Just ask questions, and life will be good.

I am running a sandbox game using Worlds Without Number (free version available) and I'm looking for new players. Check out the recruitment thread and let me know if you're interested.

It is very obvious you are not a native English speaker, because your post was completely coherent, used proper grammar and spelling, no slang or shorthand. U r better than most English speakers, jsyk.

:D

(That was a compliment, by the way. Sometimes- ok, most of the time- tone and sarcasm don't come across properly in text.)

I have found that the GMs here are really good about players who are new to a system. Remember, at one point all of us were brand new to our favorite games and needed to learn.
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.
