Gars swats away one giant bird with his shield but grunts and hisses through his teeth as he takes a vicious gash to his arm from the other. The explorer historian drops his long-handled shovel and clenches his fist - smoke coalescing into the pommel and black iron cross guard of a hilt in his grasp. A writhing plume of smoke bursts out from it and forms into a black-steel blade. "That was unwise," he says darkly, squaring off against the pair of them and bringing his sword around in a vicious arc.
On-Turn: Manifest Cursed Blade
Action: Attack
Accursed Blade (1-hand): [1d20+4]=2+4=6, [1d8+3]=7+3=10, Shock: 4/AC 15
Spend 1 Effort: if it takes damage, activate Weeping Wounds for an additional 1d6 damage (if my shock doesn't damage it, I do this when someone else injures it. Causing it to hemorrhage blood.)
Weeping Wounds [1d6]=3

HP: 7/10
Effort: 2/3

Lavin screams a wordless warcry and rushes forward, slashing at the creatures.

If they are somewhat bunched together (i.e., I can get to a place I can reach them all with a 10' radius reach) Lavin will use her Whirlwind Assault and apply 5 Shock to all of them.

Otherwise she'll attack the closest:
Halberd strike: [1d20+4]=4+4=8, damage [1d10+4]=2+4=6

Quick battle update: I probably should have labeled each of the Axe Beaks because it wasn't clear which one any of you was attacking. AB1 is the one that attacked Kaithar. AB2 and AB3 attacked Gars. I rolled randomly for your targets. Gars attacked AB2, Kaithar, Ciarra, and Lavin attacked AB1. AB1 is dead. AB2 is on its last legs. AB3 is unhurt. Waiting on Urson's actions.

Did Gars expend his Effort and did Lavin expend her Whirlwind Assault? Will Gars use of Weeping Wounds continue one round (and do damage to AB2 in the coming round), or did it only last for the round it was used (and is done already)? (I assume you'll clarify that when you write the IC post after Urson's update. :) Just putting it on the agenda.)

Axe Beak combat round 1

Kaithar attacks AB1, the same that attacked him, and does grievous damage to it via his spear.
Gars attacks AB2, one of the two that attacked him, and strikes a mighty blow. His sorceries add to the creature's discomfort.
Ciarra throws her spear at AB1 and misses wide of the mark. Ranged attacks don't inflict Shock damage
Lavin attacks AB1 and skewers it with her halbard, slaying it.
Mikhail looses an arrow at AB3 but misses.

With one of their number slain, the remaining axe beaks swing from fight to flight. They turn tail, literally, and run away in different directions. Does the party pursue or attempt to get in some ranged attacks, or another action?

Morale check failed. The axe beaks are retreating at 40' per round.

AB2 is at 2/9 HP. AB3 is at 7/7 HP. Both are AC 11.

Ciarra

Ciarra will recover her spear.

"Looks like we have some fresh dinner."

She doesn't have a missile weapon after throwing her spear.

Gars does not pursue.

Gars watches them go a moment, then lets the darksteel longsword in his hand crumble and disolve into a particulate sand, which then turns to shadowy vapor. "I DO have a proper stewpot," he replies, his tone brightening at the thought. "Some good axe-chicken soup would do wonders." He reaches reaches down to get his shovel, wincing at the movement of his shield arm. "Would you mind taking a look at this? I'd rather it not get infected..."

Ciarra

"Absolutely." She looks over the injury and will use Heal (level 1 + specialist) first and then Healing Touch if she thinks he needs it.

I am not at home so will add rolls later but checking to make sure I have this right.

Heal 1, specialist. Roll 3d6 drop lowest and add 1.

Healing Touch heals 2d6+1 damage.

Mikhail
Mikhail sets to work butchering the Axe-beak. He'll try to salvage tail feathers and talons for sale when they get back to town. Any meat that isn't eaten immediately will be cooked/smoked and added to the provisions. He'll also check the critter's gizzard, in case it swallowed something valuable along with the sand and gravel. Anything that can't be used will be carried away from the camp at least 500 yards and buried.

I'm making a couple of guesses here, and adding die rolls I think will be needed. If I missed something, let me know.

Survival: (to salvage feathers and talons without damage)
[2d6]=7
%ile (looking for valuables in the gizzard/craw)
[1d100]=83

Mikhail sets to the task of carving up the axe beak for valuable parts. He's able to salvage one unit of common monster parts. He lacks the Craft skill to make anything of them himself but he can certainly sell them to someone with more skill at that task.

The gizzard of the beast contains nothing of value but a quick search of the immediate area reveals that this is the axe beak's nest. There are four still warm axe beak eggs in the nest. The ranger seems to recall speaking with an animal trainer back at the Ket fairgrounds who would be willing to train axe beaks as mounts if he could get his hands on them early in life. This could be a valuable find if the party can return to Ket while the eggs are still viable.

Does Mikhail want to risk a small chance of catching a disease to dig through the bottom of the nest and see if the axe beaks have anything else valuable within?

Mikhail edit
Ya'll- I met a fella back in Ket that would pay a good price for these eggs, as long as we can keep 'em warm enough the chicks survive to hatch. It's ganna be a handful to get 'em back there, though. Do we want to try it? If we do, mayhap we can load them on the mule?
IF the group wants to make the attempt, the eggs will need to be wrapped in extra clothing to be kept warm- and probably carried next to the body. Mikhail will do what he can to make this happen.

Mikhail is used to dirt and possible infection. Once the matter of the eggs is settled, he'll spend a few minutes searching the nest.

Mikhail rustles through the axe beak nest. It's filled with detritus: molted feathers, egg shells, bones of previous meals, etc. Mikhail tries to be careful and not break the skin of his hands on anything but a glint of gold makes him rush a little bit and he cuts himself on a sharp bone fragment.

His reward is finding a thick silver bracelet. It's broken and tarnished but should nonetheless fetch a price of around 25 silver.

Mikhail needs to make a Physical saving throw of 14 or higher, or else he has contracted a disease.

There is always a chance that the axe beaks will return. What are the party's next actions? Are you returning to Ket with the eggs? If so, how are you keeping them warm? If not, are you continuing to the swamp or somewhere else?
