A Blackmarsh Ranger (Rex's PC) is sitting in the Lazy Pig, a small tavern near the docks in Blackmarsh.

The elf. Ylindyr, enters the tavern, having heard that a Ranger has been hanging out there looking for adventure.

The Ranger's horse and pony are stabled out in the village outside the walls. Ylindyr's horse and pony are tied up outside the tavern.

Poeninus

Poeninus sits with his back to the wall sipping his drink, his spear resting against the wall next to him. He is of average height but heavily built.

Seeing an elf enter, "Hail Elfling, what news do you bring of the road today."

Ylindyr

The elf's gaze wanders around the tap room as he enters, and flicks to the human as he is addressed.

"Greetings, human. I have experienced no issues on my travels in the last few days. I am looking for a ranger, one who I have been told frequents this establishment and is interested in exploring the marsh and its environs. Are you he? "

Poeninus

"I am he, Poeninus the Ranger. Are you interested in the marshes?"

Ylindyr

"I am known as Ylindyr. I have heard rumour and story that fell beasts are once again returning to the swamp. This concerns me, so I have decided to see for myself and discern if this is truth or just fancy."

Poeninus

"I have heard the same rumor. If we don't travel in the same circles that may bode ill, as it seems more likely to be true. Your company would be much welcomed Ylindyr."

A young man, well, not that much younger than Poeninus approaches your table.

Fell beasts in the marshes, yes, I have heard of such. I have but my sword to offer, but if you have need of another sword, Marcus is at your service.

Ylindyr nods

"You are a brave man Marcus. An elf and a ranger are a good match for such a journey. But more stout hearts are welcome, and I understand that with humans, like most races, the young males like to test their mettle. Do you know of anyone else who might join us?"

Poeninus

"Welcome Marcus. Another sword is welcome indeed. It seems today is a fortuitous day to form a group to look into the swamp."

Ylindyr

"Marcus, do you have a horse? What about armour?"

Poeninus

"I have a horse and pony."

Ylindyr raises an eyebrow

"Curious. I also have a horse and pony, they are out front. Perhaps we should partake of a meal and learn more about each other and decide if we should seek further people to join us."

I'm not suggesting we role-playing learning what we already know as players... unless you really want to.

Poeninus

"That is an excellent idea, lets break bread together and talk."

Agreed, but it is a good idea to at least say we have discussed it.

Marcus knows a reliable warrior that fought under him when he served as a caravan guard several months past. The caravan master can serve as a reference if you need that. If you want more warriors, he suggests posting something here and letting the caravan master know (though the caravan master will also be recruiting). Marcus is ready to do something that might have a bigger payoff.

Is Marcus look like he is reasonably equipped?

Yes, I haven't rolled him up yet, so don't know weapons and armor, but reasonable armor (probably chain, maybe plate), quality weapons, he has a cavalry horse. From his description, the other man he knows might not be so well equipped, but still fully equipped. You get the impression Marcus will be 4th level. The other guy maybe just 3rd.

"I was wondering how we divide any treasure we find. What sort of dividend is everyone expecting"

"The easiest would seem to be an even split but I think it is usually divided based on experience. A veteran Ranger would get more than a new recruit type thing. I am open to proposals."

You could do highest class level shares (so 4 shares each for the PCs, 4 for Marcus, 3 for the guy he knows).
