Elnaerel

"Yes, of course." Says the elven cleric in the same language she's been spoken to and starts uncoiling the rope.

Dungeon Training
Lower Treasure Room?

The area where Chauncey and Darklin are is a void of pitch blackness. The rest of this area is normally dark. Light shines down the round hole above, sending strange, distorted shadows across the stone floor in the area around the pole.

There is no answer from the darkness where Darklin vanished, but Chauncey suddenly lurches towards Wes, grabbing him and trying to whisper something into his bushy hair covered ear. “Wes ol’ man! Something isn’t right here. I think we need to get away from this place immediately.”

Amun calls down, hoping The Knife may have returned from the dead. After all the other oddities witnessed on this island so far, the idea doesn’t seem all that far-fetched. Alas, the gnome doesn’t appear.

However, the request makes Chauncey suddenly stop to think. As a rope is lowered through the hole from above, the mage speaks again, pointing into the eerie black void. “Shall I see if the little chap is in there?”

Wes

"Don't do that Chauncey! He's not there.", says Wes, slightly too urgently. He tries appealing to the wizard's ego. "Your excellent knowledge of magic was right the first time. It's too dangerous here." Wes pushes the rope into Chauncey's hands and calls upwards: "Let's go, now!", quickly following it with "Another rope, quickly!"

This time it is Grimm the one to lower the second rope. He holds it fast and asks for help from the strong Amun.

Elnaerel looks for a place to tie her end of the rope. Once she finds one, she also ties Grimm 's. If she doesn't find anything, she'll trust her strength.

Amun pulls as well.

"What is going on down there. Is he being mind controlled by some ghost?"

Dungeon Training
Fake Treasure Room

Quickly pulling those below back up to the floor above, Mr. Wrenly takes advantage of the wizard using both hands to leap from his robes and jump up above the hole alone.

Being something the group has never witnessed before now, the druid is even more surprised when the monkey keeps his distance from the mage once the group is reunited again, actually leaping up to Wes’s shoulder and climbing around on his head once Chauncey demands obedience.

“What has gotten into you, Mister?”

Amun draws her sword slowly and looks threatening at Chauncey, taking a step back as she does.

"Wait. I've heard stories about this as a child. Shapechangers. They kill you and steal your visage. That was not Darklin, and this is not Chauncey. Ask him anything that happened before. It did not steal his memory, only his body."

She keeps her aggressive stance, ready to pounce.

Wes

Wes smiles, trying to make things look normal. "I'm sure it's fine Chauncey. You know he likes to jump on me from time to time. He's probably just spotted a big bug in my beard or something. Let me ask him if everything is okay."

Wes begins to cast Speak With Animals. He hopes that Chauncey will not object too strenuously.

Grimm looks suscipciously at Chauncey, then around them. He wants to make sure no surprises come from the rear.

Elnaerel waits for Chauncey's reaction and Wes' conversation with Mr. Wrenly. Her hand is not far from her morningstar though.

Chauncey seems confused by the accusations originally, but calms somewhat once Wes suggests using his magic.

The druid speaks with the wizards companion, while the others only hear loud grunts, chattering, and shrieks.

Wes

Wes screeches briefly back to Mr Wrenly. Then he addresses Chauncey. "Mr Wrenly seems very convinced that you aren't Chauncey. Why would he think something as strange as that?"

Grimm goes tense and looks at his companions sidewide.

Elnaerel doesn't take her eyes from the mage.

Amun calms down somewhat but does not lower her guard. In a more normal tone, she says:

"If you are truly Chauncey, tell me how The Knife died."

Dungeon Training
Fake Treasure Room

Chauncey adopts a perturbed look upon his normally neutral expression, answering Wes. "Ridiculous! I am me! How could there be another?"

He then looks to Amun. "The Knife isn't dead, my dear. In fact.......none of us are." :?

Wes

Wes has another brief screech with Mr. Wrenly.

"You're certainly physically you. But Mr. Wrenly is convinced you are not...thinking like you. And nobody is closer to you than him."

"Why would he believe something like that?"

Chauncey looks confused for a moment before moving alongside the druid.

"I will explain it to each of you.........one at a time."

He leans in even closer.

"Allow me to whisper it into your ear, friend."
