Dungeon Training
Treasure Room?

Everyone stands there staring at the obvious illusion, but what if.......

Amun grabs a chunk of broken rubble and tosses it into the room. The projectile disappears once it hits the pile, and everyone hears the rock landing on the stone floor beyond, even though you don't see it happen behind the massive pile of gold and gems that remains right where it is.

Actions?

Amun

"Hmmmm. A false treasure. But what awaits us once we pass? It could be another pit trap? Or arrows from the wall? If that monster had not disappeared, we could have pushed it in front of us to set off any trap. Now, I'm not sure what to do. Maybe we can get more rubble and try to cover the whole floor, to set off any trap? I will take some time, but it will be safe."

Wes

Wes retrieves the coil of rope from his backpack. "Let's lash a couple of ropes around that door back there. Once we get it up here, we can tip it end over end as we go to set off traps."

Amun

"Not bad. Not bad at all."

She helps Wes with his plan using her rope as well.

Grimm will prode with the spear the floor walls and ceiling from the place he's staying now. He won't advance.

Elnaerel stays in the rearguard, leaving the others to their machinations. No room for more people anyway.

Dungeon Training
Treasure Room?

After some trial and error, door riding, floor prodding, and lots of eye blinking, the illusionary treasure pile is eventually seen for what it really is. However, one single gold coin remains on the floor where the center of the pile was.

The 20’ x 20’ room is cut partially from rough stone, with unfinished side walls and ceiling, where small stalactites protrude downward from above. The floor and back walls are worked stone. Three wooden doors are spread evenly across that wall, a medium sized metal shield is hung in the center of each door.

There doesn’t appear to be anything else inside the room.

Amun still can't wrap her head around how the treasure pile could be there, but at the same time wasn't.

"Oh, look, a lucky coin."

She uses her bastard sword to push the coin towards her from some distance, not wanting to fall into another hole, or get crushed by the roof.

Wes

Wes looks at the coin and wonders why only a single one was left behind. Something about it nags at him.

He turns his attention to the doors across the room, trying to discern any heraldry or signage on them.

Then Wes notices the stalactites hanging from the ceiling. He tries to warn Amun. "I wouldn't touch that if..."

:)

Okay, so Amun stops just seconds away from raking home that coin.

"What?" She looks up. "Oh. Damn. I still think we should get it though, I can feel that it's special."

She takes a few steps back.

"Hey, what if that coin is what causing us to see the false hoard! That could prove useful. Am I not right?"

Grimm

"Just let me test the waters here." he keeps prodding everything with the spear. Floor, walls, stalactites and between them... "Who knows if a poisonous bat dwells here. Heh." He says.

Elnaerel waits at the back of the group.

Luther I was slow, so my 'disbelieve' attempt is academic now.
Luther watches Amun fiddle with the coin, not thinking about the idea it might be a second trap. He waits for Grimm to finish his probing, so he can investigate the doors.

CP needs to take another break from his games here, so I will be NPC'ing Chauncey for the next little while.

Dungeon Training
Treasure Room?

Amun walks up to the coin in the center of the chamber, about to flick it with the tip of her sword until she hears Wes suggest against the idea.

Grimm looks over the floors and walls, even poking at the natural looking ceiling, but the thief finds nothing hidden or secret as he mumbles something about a giant bat. He thinks he hears the flapping of leathery wings coming from somewhere below, but cant place exactly where the noise originates under the stone floor.

When nobody touches the single gold coin on the floor, Wes squints for a better look at the distant shields hanging on the three doors. He doesn't pick up on any writing or heraldry, but he does notice an obvious mounting hinge across the tops of each shield that secures them in place. It seems they can be lifted up from the bottom, like a window shutter or something similar.

Luther lumbers over to the doors, standing close without touching them. He starts with the leftmost, studying the markings on the shield.

Amun sighs.

"I can still feel that coin is something special, that we'll need it. Let's check these doors first, but I'm getting that coin before we leave."

Amun moves to the middle door, stopping a bit in front if it (avoiding any pit traps), knocks on it with the tip of her bastard sword, shouting. "HEY! Anybody in there?!"

Grimm

"Hey! Do you hear that? Like a bat or soemthing."

He pokes the coin with the tip of the spear. If he has to come closer in order to do it, he does so.

Elnaerel reminds behind.

Wes

Wes is puzzled by the flapping sound. He stands to the side of the room. "Be careful with those shields!" he calls. "There's likely a man with a crossbow waiting for you to lift it up and look behind it".

See, now that’s why I wait. (sometimes)

Dungeon Training
Treasure Room?

The huge crabman lumbers to the doors, finding something visually off about their construction. There are no markings on the shields, but they are clearly hinged at the top.

Staying clear of the others exploratory activities, Wes makes a curious statement, as if he may have figured out what is actually going on in this training dungeon.

When Amun knocks on the center door with her sword, the shield snaps upwards to reveal the fake door trap underneath, and three javelin sized projectiles rapidly shoot across the room, nearly skewering poor Chauncey where he stands.

Grimm pokes the coin with his spear, confused to see it recess into the floor for a moment before protruding back upwards into the ceiling, no longer a coin, but as a round brass pole that locks into the stone ceiling above. After a loud clicking noise, a circular portion of the floor around the pole disappears, revealing the bottom of this fire station style device attached to a bare stone floor about 15 feet below.

Also picking up on what Wes is currently thinking, Chauncey gets a mischievous smile on his face before stating, “of course! The real treasure room is down here! We might even run into someone friendly!”

The mage hikes up his robes and grabs ahold of the brass pole, quickly descending to the room below. When Grimm pokes his head over the hole to see what happened, a giant black bat flits through the opening and up into the room.
