Alex picks one of the G-19s and tosses a full bandolier over his shoulder.
Inspecting the G-19s loading port he loads it full with five shells and then looks for whether it has a safety. Stepping over to the firing range, he turns the safety off if there is one, and fires five shots at different ranges to get a feel for the range of the weapon and shot provided.
He then reloads five more shells and empties them as quickly as possible from what he decided was the optimum range, to get a feel for the pump action of the shotgun.
Clearing the weapon he makes sure to police all the shells and heads out to pick up his checked gear and have the bandolier topped off.
While doing so, he says to McTaggert, "Thanks, Sergeant. Any advice about the jungle down there?" and uses his Empathy to project his sincere respect for the veteran.

Stern Empathy (40): [1d10] = 3

OOC: Make sure you code your dice macros using d100 (except for initiative, which uses d10). It doesn't matter here, where you have a skill of an even 40, but if it was 43 or 47, we'd need to generate both a ones and tens number to make the skill test. In this event, you didn't actually need the empathy (although you were successful with it), as the Gunny recognized a fellow grunt, and so was a little more disposed to like you. ;)

The action works smoothly and quickly, the empty shell casings ejecting out the side as Alex slides the pump. As one would expect with a shotgun, the weapon has one hell of a kick.

When you address McTaggert, he looks briefly annoyed, but after an appraising glance, his craggy features relax a bit and he says,"You're ex-military, aren't you? Yeah... you got the look, alright. Probably spent some time in the bush." Scratching his stubbly jaw thoughtfully, he says, "Yeah, I've got some advice for you, kid. Don't drink the water, keep your weapon loaded and within easy reach at all times, and don't take your eyes off of any of those corporate pukes for more than a second. You give a desk jokey a gun, he's as likely to shoot you in the back as he is a hostile, once the fracas starts."

He thinks quietly for a second, then adds,"Oh yeah- make sure you grab some grub and shut-eye, every chance you get. But hell, if you've been through boot camp, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. Good luck, kid."

Although Marcus is an avid hiker, camper and outdoorsman, and does not think he could be considered a desk jockey per se, he cannot help but feeling slightly abashed for being a non-military man in the present company. He scrutinizes the others as Chief Doyle goes through his presentation and struggles to keep his eyes from wandering back to the table full of weapons.

When the others move forward, he will grab up one of the Bushmaster G-19s and a bandoleer and move over to the range to secure ear and eye protection before it gets loud! He watches Specialist Alex closely as he works the shotgun with obvious experience, and makes note of his methods. When he gets his turn, Marcus will take the opportunity to practice with the shotgun, trying to emulate the methods he just observed. A huge smile arrives to his wide-eyed visage as he feels the weapon's power and he cranks off the rounds in a near jovial manner.

Already being giddy enough, he clears his throat, straightens himself up to look more experienced than he really is when he's finished and reports back to the sergeant to get his bandoleer refreshed. "Thank you, Sergeant McTaggert. I'll be careful with this, sir," he promises, trying not to look as green as he thinks a desk jockey probably does.

Marcus exits the armory and makes his way to the canteen with the others for a good meal. Realizing that his credits will do him little good in the field, he will offer to buy a round of some good swill and get to know the others as best he can before their morning departure.

Alex nods, "Thanks, Sarge. I'll see you in a month, unless you make it to the canteen tonight."

Nuk nods to the gruff veteran, and stomps over to the Mjolinor. Picking the maul up carefully, he examines it's craftsmanship. His eye scours the handle, searching for imperfections. A grunt of satisfaction declaring his approval, Nuk lifts it over his head and discovers he can easily swing the weapon one handed. Clutching it in his fists, he knows its true stopping power will come from a two handed smash.

Turning to McTaggart, Nuk's voice rumbles, I will need a distance weapon as well. I have been trained in use of support weapons... heavy machine guns, recoiless rifles. Or am I to throw rocks or the corpses of my teammates at our foes? Victory is far more assured using all of my skills.

Vombis "Bob" the Dralasite

Vombis chortles a bit at the idea of blowing his foot off. He picks up the Bushmaster and handles it a bit, getting a feel of its weight and balance. He grabs a bandolier of ammo and straps it on as well.

This should be similar enough to a needler for me to get used to, he says. I just wish there was a variety of ammo to go with it. I like using non-fatal but still effective rounds when I can. No matter, I still have my pistol.

Can he also get more needler ammo packs? Both sharpies and sleeper rounds, if possible.

Stan heeds McTaggert's words and tops off his ammo and heads to get somthing to eat. He will do a check on his equipment in his room and turn in early for bed. He has a feeling he is going to need his rest.

McTaggert laughs. "Didn't you hear the Chief? He's already running in the red on the mission budget. Anyhow, you shouldn't need heavy machine guns or recoiless rifles; this ain't no combat Op. Besides," he says, giving the massive Ogrun a wry look, "you ought to be able to create enough havok with that thing, as it is. And yeah, if you need a little more range, throw a rock. Big as you are, it'd be like bein' hit with a cannonball."

He laughs again, then waves you on impatiently. "Okay, you jokers- get out of here. You should all go grab some grub and have a few rounds, before you deploy tomorrow."

With a grunt of dissatisfaction, Nuk nods and plods off, the Mjolinor on his shoulder.
