I'll start us off here: We have a pool of six players now. We can have one group, or split off into two groups of three or three groups of two. Hopefully, I'll be able to draw an even bigger pool of players, in time. I'd like to have as many as sixteen, split into various groups.

What I would like from each of you, is for you to PM me with your preferred posting rate (once a day, 2-3 times a week, once a week- whatever), so I can figure out how best to group everyone. I would like to group people according to their preferred posting rate and their preferred party size (2, 3, or 6 people), so I can start planning for that.

Also, feel free to offer suggestions of your own, on how to handle this.

No one has gone for the mentalist yet. Hmm I expected that to go quick.

Reckless, you did say we are starting out as a scout team exploring a newly settled planet correct?

I'm just debating if it would be wise to drop computers for a weapon skill if we're going to be doing the Lewis and Clark thing.

Yes, you will be exploring a wild, untamed (and frequently, very dangerous) alien planet. I would say it's a good idea to have at least a few people with dedicated weapons skills. You can still fire guns without weapons skills (at half your dex score), but you'll want to either take the aim action or use bursts a lot, to give yourself that 15 or 20% bonus to hit.

I do give combat bonuses on rolls for clever teamwork and tactics (flanking manoeuvres, ambushes, setting up fire zones and so on). Also, remember to use cover to protect yourself, whenever possible. Read my posts carefully and you should find clues to things you can use as a tactical advantage, when combat is unavoidable.

I couldn't swing the 70 needed to qualify for mentalist.

All of the PSA's will be useful at some point. If a particular skill or ability is needed among the group to accomplish a particular goal, and no one has that ability, I'll simply add an NPC to the part to fill that void.

Having said that, you can tweak and change your characters as much as you like, before the game actually begins. As you read information that I add to the forum, some of you may well decide to do that.

NJWilliam, I like your integrity. If you want to bump one of the relevant attributes up to 70, so you can take the Mentalist PSA, go ahead. I'll also go ahead and give you this freebie: The Tetrarchs were all powerfully psionic species. Their technology uses a psionic-crystal circuitry. Only the lower functions of these devices may be activated by non-psionics. Also, they use psionic cyphers. Some of the written symbols of their language can denote 3 different meanings. The particular context of the meaning might be guessed at based on the rest of the sentence, but the correct meaning can only be deduced telepathically for certain, by someone with the mentalist PSA (though they don't have to have the telepathy skill specifically, to do this).

Well, with that information and that permission, I'm definitely going to have to look over the mentalist now.
I expect I will be taking you up on that offer. Thanks!

Thanks, Rotten. :) I thought spicing things up with visual aids might make it a little more fun. I've got a few more maps and some background information I need to add- then we should be able to get rolling on the game itself. I ought to have it wrapped up by the end of this week (or next week, at the latest).

Glad to see more military PSA's. Now I don't feel so bad about focusing on tech only with all these soldiers around to protect us. :)

Yeah, we've got ourselves a nice mix of character types- and enough players to run two different groups. :D

I've got five more maps to draw up and post and the we should be ready to rock. I'm looking to start posting for the game, by the 15th of March, at the latest.

Great news! I just edited my character, replacing Thrown Weapons with Projectile Weapons. I think he's finished now.

I feel good about Nuk and await a final once over by our GM to make the completeion of his character official.

Everyone seems to have a good grasp of their character so IC interactions should be meaty. Looking forward to exploring with the team and covering the sects of this untamed world.

Don't worry- everyone will have something to contribute with their particular skill sets. And anyone can be useful during combat, with a little tactics and teamwork. ;)

Howdy all!

A bit late to the party here but got my basics rolled up and will work on getting the rest sorted this evening.

Edit: Not sure what I'm going to take for Mack's 2nd skill: was thinking Environmental or even Medical but see we already have that in the group. I wonder if we might not need some skill set not taken, versus having our GM assign an npc specialist. What do you all think?

Regardless, this party is looking pretty darn good! 8-)
Yosef Travathas: High Elf Fighter4/Magic-User3 (rredmond's Pacesetter Games "Legacy of the Unknown" OSRIC Playtest)
Brok Sterling: Human Assassin3 (ToniXX's Incursion into Newiron OSRIC Playtest)
Tanik Tremwoodak: Dwarf Cleric3 (Dave's 1e Skype Game)

DM: home-brew OSRIC "A New Hope to the West" campaign

Fireball... good!!

"What's it gonna take?"
"Everything."

OK, peeps- I have everything ready to go; just waiting on Argennian to put the finishing touches on his character, and I expect him to be finishing up sometime in the next day or so. I'll be posting the first IC stuff in the Moon Base Gamma Niner thread- viewtopic.php?f=73&t=1242 sometime this weekend, so keep your eyes on the forum and get ready for some good ol' fashioned, Star Frontiers fun.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled posting.

P.S. While you're waiting, I highly suggest you go here- viewtopic.php?f=73&t=1225 and read the Dice Rolling Protocol notes I added. If you have any questions regarding anything, feel free to PM me. :)

Hey Mitch welcome aboard!

I'm the only tech PSA, there's room for another since no one has computers yet. Bob backs me up in the technician skill but he's Military PSA. Considering we're exploring an unsettled planet another enviromental guy would always be a good thing just in case Akai comes to an unfortunate end. Stan is our medic, but he's a military PSA so he won't be advancing his skills as quickly as a biosocial PSA would. It would be nice to have a dedicated doc in the crew.

Ooops never mind I just noticed you picked Military. I thought you were still hunting for a PSA. Hmm a secondary skill no one has...
We don't have a head shrinker (psycho social), not sure how much use it will be in the wilderness, but back on base it might let you talk the quartermaster into "loaning" us better gear. ;)
I also don't see anyone with Demolition skill. I'm sure that would come in handy at some point. :o

And Computers as I mentioned before.

I believe we may be working in split groups at some point (if not all the time). So probably no skill would be too much.
