Collace: Expansion, Promotion, Logistics
Collace: Expansion, Promotion, Logistics
A thread for discussion of current upgrades / housekeeping for the unit.
Re: Collace: Expansion, Promotion, Logistics
Now that we have these shiny new, errr, new, um, slightly used starships, what do we plan to do with them?

To Jess, they're just LCTs. The bus to work
Re: Collace: Expansion, Promotion, Logistics
Kit spent 5 of his 10 years of "action" (not counting basic training, schools and the like) when he was in the Marine's either as location security or Ship's Troop and is very comfortable in that situation.

Well...They are a depreciating asset even if you keep up the maintenance.
To keep up the maintenance you need lots of Cr every month (or at-least annually) and specialists we don't have
If you put them in harms way they are sitting ducks without serious, multi-million credit upgrades...which cost a lot to maintain after that, and ruin their commercial value...or expensive escorts.
If we use them as Commercial Cargo Carriers then they are a knife at our financial throats should anyone want to do us harm.
Did I miss any of the down side?

It appears that our best course of action is to sell them, then. We can always hire a ride when we need one.BackworldTraveller wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 11:49 pm Well...They are a depreciating asset even if you keep up the maintenance.

However, if you were mere Gauchos the downside above would surely be the case... and yet...
And yet... you are now established Condottiere some might say Agents of Fortune [top album] indeed now recognised players on the board that is District 268...
Surely SEMC's "Rep" is the sum of its achievements in good, honest merc work?

Re: SEMC space Assets
Cold logistics would say that upkeep for ships rates in MCr denominations. However, as high demand assets in 268, a Starmerc Auxiliary Fighter Carrier and an (Ex) Imperial (real warship) Patrol Corvette being "retained in port" (mostly as asset denial to other interests) is still reasonably profitable.
Option: with astute and active management the SEMC merc flotilla is broadly self-sufficient and a dependable financial asset hiring out as denied assets/merc ortillery/smackdown for orbital customs.
Note: Real Starmerc (Merc Navy) contracts always begin with (multi) MCr but have MCr risks (in fact per opposition salvo).
Of course if you want to make real money the niche is surely as Interstellar Mercs...

We've just spent effort working out how to pay off the lien and start getting money from the 3rd ship.
At this stage I certainly vote to keep them.
Yes we will need to find new people to crew them, but it opens things up for the kind of jobs we can take on.

That's true. Prerna will vote to keep them.

Despite the pessimistic streak earlier, Freya also votes to keep them.
Maybe we should contract the Captain of our current transport as a filter on the crew selection panel?

I was for keeping them from the start, and my vote doesn't change. Jess is reluctant to let assets go, and having the ships gives us an independent transport capability - we can lift and escort our own unit without relying on anyone else. We can bid on a greater range of tickets too, and charge more for our services.
Plus, cool rides
The Type T is perfect for commando raids, it holds an APC and a squad of troops.

And with a bit of aluminumized mylar and a heater you can change the EM signature to be anything you like!

We do need to rename those ships.

My favourite version of the T4
We haven't used Blitzspear as a name yet.

I like it!
Re: Collace: Expansion, Promotion, Logistics
Indeed...and a suitable name for a ship of such a design.
