They've been taught well!
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

I finished the club sessions this week. Both groups made it as far as Cragmaw castle. To wrap things up in a satisfactory manner, I moved the BBG from the mine of Phandelver and used him to bump up the final battle in the castle. (They didn't care, they just wanted a big cool fight ).
Once the fight was over, both groups discovered the missing dwarf, Gundren Rockseeker, as a badly beaten prisoner in the next room. With only minutes left before the session had to finish, I began the final wrap up:
"You heal Gundren, and he's so grateful that he gives you his map to the Lost Mines of Phandelver. You travel there and discover a vast hoard. Golden coins! Silver! Platinum! Sacks of sparkling gemstones and jewellery!"(the players were all eyes and ears at this point)
"But the real treasure..." (the players leaned forward expectantly)
"...was the friends you made along the way"
In both groups, there was a moment of silence, and then gasps, eye rolls and derision as they all realized what they'd fallen for
I can't believe I got away with twice

In a combination of back-by-by-popular-demand and "I must be bloody mad...", I'm starting up this year's DnD club next week.
This time around, to avoid worrying about which 5e adventures the kids might have already played I decided to run a 1e conversion. I'm going with "The Sentinel" and "The Gauntlet". I've had them on the shelf for years, so why not?
As an extra bit of fun for myself, and to keep some of the original 1e flavor in there, I converted the original pre-gens into 5e characters for the players. I'm hoping, if we have time once it's all over, I can show them the original modules and they can see what "real" DnD was like

I love that duo of modules! Had great fun with them many years ago.
Winter is coming...
