"If you know that the alter and pews are trapped, you might not want to mess with them," Quinn warns as he steps into the newly found hallway.

OOC: Quinn wants to be outside of the chapel while the others are investigating the alter and pews.

Skarlos steps back from the altar.
"I don't fancy the look of the Skiiratch"
As Quinn walks off, Skarlos snaps his fingers as he remembers something:
"Quinn, Stirling don't either of you want these fancy boots that Tix had?"

Quinn calls from his position in the hallway, "Sure. Throw them to me."

Urdak will use his Dwarven skillfulness (and his hammer) to set a spike to keep the newfound door open.
Spike marked off.

Skarlos throws the boots to Quinn then moves to stand by the exit he has gone through, looking back into the chapel.

Quinn's light shines down the darkened staircase ahead and he can see that they descend for 20 feet. At the bottom the 10 foot wide corridor heads west.

Skarlos moves over and tosses the boots to Quinn as Urdak finishes driving the iron spike.

Skiiratch having ignored the advice of the cleric continues his examination of the altar. His hand accidentally brushes the surface and there is a loud CRACK! A bright bolt of lightening kills the elf instantly and sends his smoking body flying up the aisle. The altar now begins pulsing with a fiery red glow at a steadily increasing pace!

To echo Monty Python - Run away, run away!
Skarlos hustles through the doorway
"Come on everyone I don't like the look of that altar!"

Quinn can only watch with a shock as his comrade is disintegrated by a bolt of lightning. As the remains of the body lies smoking next to the alter he suggests, "Perhaps we should leave this room. If the trapped pews are equally effective we would be wise to leave them unmolested."

OOC: Did any of Skiiratch's equipment survive the blast?

Urdak has a flash of brilliance too late. Down na new door, quick! He can be heard muttering Dwarven curses at his own efficiency for spiking the door open.

The bracers of ac5, dust of disapperance, and the wand or lightening made their saves. Everything else was destroyed. Do you take the time to retrieve them?

A short distance down the hall you find a plain wooden door.

"Crikes!" exclaims McCloud as literally a bolt from the blue streaks past him, zapping poor Skiiratch to be another crispy critter! Taking hold of his backpack (full of gold coins) but leaving the other coins scattered across the floor, McCloud will pass by the body and follow the body and follow the others down the new passageway. On passing by McCloud will pick up the Wand of Lightening (did this thing backfire...?...hmmm...just a thought?) and tuck it into his belt and if Skiiratch's familiar survived will pick up the moggy too!

Either way, McCloud will exit the room with the cat belly up , cradled in his arm, legs held in his two-handed grip and tail stuck between his teeth, gentle squeezing his elbows into the cats ribs and stomach to wind him up, creating a solemn meowing lament for the fallen Skiiratch with McCloud playing the ubiquitous 'Bagpuss' .

Quinn continues down the stairs, making his way slowly to the closed door. As he moves he uses the butt of his spear to check the area in front of him for traps. Upon reaching the door he checks for traps before listening in an attempt to hear if anything is in the chamber beyond.

Quinn examines the wooden door and finds no traps, hears no sound from the other side, and sees the door has no lock.

Quinn carefully opens the door and peers into the area beyond.

OOC: If there is nothing of interest he will continue on using the butt of his spear to check the area in front of him for traps.

McCloud will bring up the rear in the corridor. "How are we doing for light?...and food? getting hungry, think and search better on a full stomach!! Lets get into the next room."

McCloud will put down the wailing bagpuss, "best go hide besides yer master for now or you'll end up dog food like us!"

Skarlos steels himself for whatever lies beyond the door.

"No reward is worth this...."

McCloud, having put down 'Bagpuss' will draw out his trusty (and rusty) claymore. Holding it in his right hand and taking hold off his new wand will practice some shadow fencing in the rear behind Urdak. He will make a few lunging thrusts and fine ripostes and the occasional "zap" or "pow" as he mimics the wand discharging.

As he inspects the wand does he find any clues to key words or actions that will cause it to function?

(hoping we don't have a DM moment where you go , yes, say "zap" and it fires!!)
