Torvik aims for the man next to the robed man and fires his crossbow.
The bolt flies between the bandit chief and the crossbowman. Feeling the bolt barely miss him, the chief cries "AMBUSH!"
Vari wastes no time and nocks another arrow and fires again at the black-robed man and another arrow slams into his thigh and he drops and stops moving blood pooling around his still form. Torvik moves his bow a little to the right aiming at the crossbowman who staggers back a bit and fires his crossbow wildly, then looks down dumbly at the bolt sticking out of his chest. Morwen draws her blade and strikes at the same time as the bandit chief, their swords ringing loudly as they strike together neither hitting the other. Ruskin draws two of his throwing knives and hurls both at the skinny man with the axe, both hitting him in the chest. Which is followed by Mallorean quickly stabbing the skinny man in the gut with his dagger, though he still stands the man doesn't attack merely steps back and steadies himself on the bridge blood running down his chest. Kade prone on the ground, gathers his senses and his sword. He readies both his shield and sword but hasn't time to attack. Vari nocks another arrow and with her shot hits the skinny man in the shoulder whirling him about before he drops behind the bridge wall.
From the other side of the bridge is the sound of running footsteps.

By other side of the bridge do you mean the side Torvik and Vari are on or the other side where the bandit tents are?

The footsteps and they are heavy ones echo across the stone bridge. Two more figures are visible while a third waits on the other side crossbow in hand. The two who appear are near as big as the warrior already there, though unlike him they are dressed in crude furs and their faces are painted in the style of northman clan warriors, though you wonder how they found their way so far south. One is armed is a double-headed axe while the other carries a huge hammer which he holds with both hands.
Though two foes are down you still face the two remaining and the two that have joined while a fifth watches on the other side of the bridge keeping a lookout on the other side.

I'll let Torvik roll for himself and three recruits.

Torvik "Vari, we should move up. I'm thinkin the others be needin our help." he issues the order for the two long ranged Var and himself to move up and he heads off moving up to see how well the others are doing and provide cover fire if able to. "Give em cover fire if yah can Vari."

Mallorean twirls his dagger and then stabs it into the crossbowman's chest beside the bolt that Torvik fired earlier. With a muffled groan the crossbowman drops his bow and slumps to the ground finally pulling the bolt free as he crawls behind the bridge's outer wall. The newcomer wielding the battleaxe strikes at Mallorean barely nicking the slender bard as he dances back from the northman.

Torvik looks over the battlefield and makes his decision....

Torvik once he and Vari have moved up to better help he orders Vari "Go with yer instincts and trainin' Vari take out the most threatening target." the dwarf will once closer aim for the target that appears to be the biggest threat to the others and fire his crossbow. the dwarf determines this is the one with the axes.

Sadly, Torvik's shot goes high, missing the axeman's head by several inches, and flies into a tree on the far side of the bridge's edge. Vari moves closer following Torvik's instructions and says, "No offense commander, but I think I need to give you lessons." She takes aim for the big man fighting Morwen and lets fly and the arrow lands in the chainmail's weak spot and the man lets out a howl of pain. He then shouts something in a language none of you understand and the man with the huge hammer starts stalking off, hammer raised in the direction of Vari and Torvik.

Morwen sees her opening and makes a vicious attack against the chain-clad man slashing the sword through his side. He lets out another scream of pain and drops to the ground spitting blood as he lays in the dirt before the bridge. Kade meets the hammer wielding warrior stopping him before reaching the archers. Sword, Hammer and shield meet but neither damages the other.

Ruskin tosses two throwing knives at the axeman but both miss and fly off into the woods by the edge of the bridge's entrance. Vari takes her second shot this time aiming for the axeman and that shot hits him under his right shoulder and he grimaces but is two busy facing Morwen and Mallorean to acknowledge the injury.

The crossbowman across the bridge seeing all his companions save the two fur-clad warriors fall, starts running away from the battle taking the road before pivoting towards the forest.

With only two opponents left standing, the tide of battle has turned. Morwen shouts, "Surrender and we will spare your lives." But the man with the axe either ignores or doesn't understand her words and strikes feebly at her as Torvik fires another bolt and hits the hammer wielding man. Mallorean and Morwen both strike as one at the axeman. Mallorean connects barely nicking him while Morwen's sword merely hits the man's axeblade. Vari takes a shot at the fleeing man but unfortunately he slips off into the forest and it merely hits a tree. Kade strikes at the hammer wielding foe but the greathammer again meets his attack and neither connect. Ruskin moves in to help his buddy Kade but his daggerstrike hits only air. Vari takes her second shot this time at the axeman and curses as her second shot misses and again hits a tree beyond her foe. Both opponents are injured but still standing and only Mallorean has taken any damage, and that was minor.

Torvik having the axe wielder up close tries punch the man and disarm him slinging his crossbow in the process. now this bit I'm not entirely sure how you wish to tackle Torvik has switched to basically unarmed combat wrestling/boxing tactics.

Mallorean darts in to strike again with his dagger missing completely as Morwen strikes as soon as Mallorean dances back away from the axeman. Her sword cleaves into the axeman's side and he groans as he drops to the ground before the bridge. Morwen stands wide-eyed looking down at the man she just killed.

Hearing his last companion fall, the hammer wielding man raises his hammer to strike but Kade is too quick and thrusts his sword deep into the man's belly, burying it to the hilt, as the hammer thuds to the earth and the man falls backward a surprised look on his face.

All opponents have fled or are down.

Torvik "Right good bit o' work there crew. And you ain't done too bad neither fer a bard." the dwarf chuckles and winks at the bard. "Alright, I be thinkin two er three of us keep watch here an the rest go back an get our wagon. Vari you an Kade stay here wit me. Unless our lady knight wishes ta stay here and wait." looking about the battlefield the dwarf wipes his brow "Coulda been worse. I s'pose we aughta search em but fer now just grab any weapons and we'll keep a look out from a secure vantage point, while we be waitin'."

Morwen her hands shaking tends to Mallorean's minor wound, "I'm sorry, I've never killed anyone before. As Commander Torvik said, you did a fine job sir."

Vari and Kade both say "Yes sir!" at the same time, as their commander instructs them to stay behind. Vari moves to take a position on the other side of the bridge with bow ready in case the one who fled returns. After checking that all are truly dead, Kade starts dragging the bodies to the edge of the road. He searches them for weapons and examines them as he drops them in a pile beside the bodies. Kade says, "I'm no weaponsmith, but I did train as a blacksmith. And it looks to be a good quality blade dropped by their leader and the two northmen had well crafted arms." He doesn't go through the rest of their supplies as instructed. Vari is just standing guard and doesn't look through the tents other than to verify no one hides inside them.

When Morwen is finished she says, "Mr. DeChastomere should stay here and rest. Ruskin and I will be fine retrieving the mule and wagon." She gives Torvik a slight smile, "You have a knack for leadership sir. Only one of us receiving a minor wound while all our bandit foes died in the skirmish. I believe Commander Dine chose well." She then turns and leaves with Ruskin.

Torvik moves over to where the tents are "Vari eyes peeled and Kade cover me. I'm gonna search these too." he indicates the tents. The dwarf takes up his sword uses it to open the first tent flap, as he stands off to the side and leans only slightly forward just enough to see inside. He will do this again with the second tent only after moving into the first if it looks clear and he will prod any places someone might hide with the end of his sword.

The tents are empty as expected. There are two bedrolls laid out and several tins of food are stacked in one corner as well as a small cask of water. A small wooden box, about the size of a breadbox, sits in one corner with an iron padlock holding it shut. You examine it and it doesn't appear to be trapped though it is locked and there is no visible key in the tent.

Moving to the second tent, again there are two bedrolls, two backpacks sit in one corner and spread out over one bedroll is a map of Aisland. The town of Lupre is marked though the comment beside it is in a language you don't recognize. Likewise the cities of Belay and Lionsgate are also marked though the words written by their names are different, you still don't know what they mean. You then look through the two backpacks, which contain simple supplies, a couple of iron rations, sharpening stones, a rather rusty lantern with 4 flasks of oil, a coin purse which holds 50 gold crowns of Aisland, and a sealed envelope which is addressed to someone named Argent, with Crow's Nest in Belay written beneath it

Kade pops his head in, "The lady knight and Ruskin are back with the mule and wagon. Are we camping here, or moving on? We won't have light for too much longer."

Torvik gathers up the more useful items and brings them to the wagon. "Alright let's be quick gather up anythin useful and we keep movin I ain't fer campin in this place. Keen eyes remember still some bandits left out there." the dwarf especially loads the locked box figuring he can work on the lockpicking later. He keeps the two backpacks with all the gear they contain and tosses those into the wagon as well, along with the maps, taking all of the weapons that were indicated as good quality and well crafted and all ranged weapons. "Alright, move out same march as afore."

Morwen insists on saying a few prayers over the dead especially over the man she killed. It is a short delay and you leave the dead side-by-side laying beside the bridge. So you are soon back on the road to Lupre....the light only now starting to fade.

Another hour of hard travel, the road bereft of any other travelers, you reach the point of nightfall and Vari who had been scouting ahead comes back with word of an abandoned hunters cabin not far off the road. She also has the body of plump rabbit which she offers as she proclaims, "Shelter and food!" The path is narrow but you manage to get the wagon through the overgrown path and soon see the cabin. It isn't much, half of the roof has fallen in, but the hearth still stands and that is covered by the remaining roof and the walls appear sturdy. It is otherwise empty, its owner having long ago left it. Kade heads out in search of wood while Vari stands outside skinning the rabbit and Ruskin unhitches the mule and ties him to a tree near the wagon and the entrance to the cabin. Morwen finds an old broom inside that still has most of its handle and starts cleaning up the area near the hearth while Mallorean lays out his bedroll and lights a lantern to add a little light to the darkening gloom.

Shortly before darkness fully falls, Kade returns with an armload of wood and soon has a fire going in the hearth and Vari starts cooking the rabbit along with some vegetables. Ruskin asks, "What are the orders for tonight commander?"

Torvik "I was thinkin' we draw straws fer watch order. But if any volunteers be had then so be it. An I saw we leave our injured off tha watch list. But if I can get three watch shifts with at least one person on each watch that'd be what I'm thinkin. If our honorable lady knight is willin that'd make watch shifts by pairs provided the bard is able to help." unless I am mixed up it is one of the newbie rangers injured not the bard correct? "As fer how long we stay, till dawn I'm thinkin set off at first light maybe eat breakfast on tha road plenty of them iron rations. Any objections?" the dwarf trying to be a fair commander states and asks.
