Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
A couple of things:
For this reason, it's usually best to find a game first, find out how the DM of that game wants you to create a character, then actually go about building a character for that game.
Worst case, you've got some solid experience building a character in the die roller that can be easily duplicated or reproduced.
- You might want to consider posting the actual sheet instead of just a fixed image of the main tab. This can be accomplished by simply pasting the 'sheet' tag found at the top of the sheet, beneath your character's name:
Literally, just copy and paste that code.
For example, this:Will display this:Code: Select all
[sheet]8497[/sheet]
- I was a little afraid when you were building a character in the die roller without actually being in a game.
You may run into DM's running (or starting) 5e games that have specific character generation rules in place (in mind). For example, only certain sourcebooks are allowed; ability scores are determined using x-method; all characters start at x-level; etc...
I know I am very particular this way.

Have any 5E games started since May?
MarguilleBlackAcre, did you find something to play?
Who else is interested in joining a 5E game?

Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
For me the answer is yes, a little bit depending on the setting
Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
I could be a yes, but it depends on the setting/game idea.
Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
If you are patient until the New Year, then Hedgeknight might be accepting new players into his Baldur's Gate setting?
The only other current game is North Lands run by joertexas.
Reading through several of the archived 5ed games, it seems a much harder edition to play-by-post as there are so many character traits, skills and spell variants that interrupt actions or cause reactions, that often a narrative flow has be rewritten.
Perhaps you could start by just playing through an encounter as in the Scenario Simulator?

Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
This is exactly what caused 5e to fall out of favor with me.
I really like the rules (and the “specific beats general” design philosophy), but I just can’t stomach the bloated power that can’t be avoided.
I (half) jokingly said I’d be very interested in trying a 5e game where the characters didn’t get any of their special class features. I think, mechanically, it could make for an interesting game.
Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
That would be an interesting idea Dave. I wonder if there is a third party stripped down version out there.
Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
Yes, it should be clear what is being implicitly accepted in its design. 5e isn't designed for struggle; it is designed for characters that shine in excellence. Sometimes called "confidence-porn," players are meant to feel good for winning, and it is left to the GM to constantly adjust the CR of what they face to make them feel challenged as they continue to consistently win. There's a time and place for that, and when I want to see characters face a world that's bigger than them (like in West Marches style), or grow by struggling against the odds, I use a different system.
That's basically playing OSR systems instead. (Which is often the preference on this site.) Also, it explains why you and I have shared interest in the development of Shadowdark.
I had just noticed this player looking for a 5E game and wanted to gauge interest and see if they're still around. I understand and like 5E for what it is and would consider running it for interested people.
There's far more interesting game systems that I'd like to introduce in the Simulator, honestly. I asked questions on that thread and I'll probably go ahead and post some introductions whether they're answered or not when I have time.
...that is, if they're opened that I can post in them. (All the ones I'm interested in posting the introductions for are locked.)
...what settings and/or conditions would you be interested in?
Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
None of the threads in the simulator are locked, you just need to self enroll.

Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
I agree with sastaz, although spelljammer is probably not a setting I would be interested in but would be willing to give it a try.
Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
While on a train and thinking, as one does staring out the window and watching rain drops race each other across the glass pane on the outside.
I was reading a downloadable PDF of a 5th ed campaign: Journey into Ragnarok.
It is a Viking themed campaign, taking folk from 1st level to 10th and beyond and from humble beginnings such as raiding and pillaging to fighting alongside God's at the ending of the world.
The pdf/book is excellent and artwork superb. It is gripping to the point of saying "yes, I want to be a Viking" but despite my enthusiasm, I am not sure I can GM such a Nordic themed campaign sufficiently. Especially as my 5th ed gameplay is very inexperienced.
(Hence why I convert my Barrowmaze pdf from 5th to 1st ed).
So, any takers to run such an epic?

Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
I don't have a copy of that book, but the setting I'm probably most interested in is also 5e Vikings.

Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
I would be game for a historical low fantasy Viking game.
Sure one of you, both being great GM's as you are, could pull off something like this.

I would be up for either. I am sure both of you could pull it off. I am familiar enough with 5E and have run it a little but much more played it.

Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
I have Journey to Ragnarok, but definitely would not be able to run it here. I might be willing to play, but that's about it.
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
So, I looked up Journey to Ragnarok, and it describes a jaunt across the Nine Realms from Asgard.
I am more inclined towards Sveiland as a lower fantasy, viking social.
That said, no 5e game is truly Low Fantasy.
Sastaz, I am curious your feelings as a Swede? I appreciated that Sveiland was published from Norway and more faithfully inspired than an American concoction...
Re: Looking to Join 5e Game!
Looking at both, Sveiland looks more interesting but I would be up for playing either.
