Traesta

Replying to Harker before, "We all agreed, there is no worry here."

Traesta will once again hold forth her holy symbol and try to dismiss these foul and evil creatures. "Beleg Paldon, mín nall- bo cin! Sui i aen -o i anor a cuil - cast awaui hin dúr creatures."

Igber reflects fondly on his pile of stored rocks on a ledge - but follows, sling at the ready

Just in case a proper target appears.

He'll look for a good rock-fall or rock-group that can be used to stand on but has ankle-breaking access for the unwary.

All at once, they drop what they have, and turn towards you together. It seems fresh meat is more appealing than the cold dead they have been feasting upon.

They look like zombies, and the thick stench of rotten flesh pollutes the air. But they do not move like zombies. One moment they are feasting on the dead, but suddenly once they realize living flesh is not far, they drop the cold rotted flesh, and turn to rush you, running at a fast pace. They close on you in mere moments.

Harker and Conweena prepare for the onslaught, moving their shields closer for a tactical advantage, but Traesta marches past them to face the rushing ghouls alone herself. Traesta will once again hold forth her holy symbol and try to dismiss these foul and evil creatures. "Beleg Paldon, mín nall- bo cin! Sui i aen -o i anor a cuil - cast awaui hin dúr creatures." she commands the creatures with absolute authority, bolstered by her past successes. She has no reason to doubt success. Her faith has been rewarded and strengthened.

The screams of the ghouls change instantly. Screams that were in anticipation of a new feast become howls of terror from the mighty warrior that stands before them. They cannot bear the power of the holy symbol that suddenly burns their eyes, and they turn away as quickly as they can, running past you into the cave entrance to escape their certain doom.

As quickly as the cavern was filled with their screaming terror, it is now filled instead only with the peaceful sounds of the ocean waves washing away the awful stain of the zombies that lay twitching, disemboweled just a few feet from where you stand.

I really didn't anticipate a full rout.
*thinks*
I guess I'll have to throw higher numbers at you. I can't get higher hit dice yet
*walks away laughing quietly*

Harker shakes his head in the negative, "No. We are leaving these caves to set up camp some place more secure ~ where we can get needed rest."

Harker begins to lead the way out of the caves that they entered.

Retracing your steps through the caverns leads you once again to the chamber where the giant crab lay dead in the sand at the edge of the water. already it is covered with thousands of it's lesser common cousins, devouring it's carcass as quickly as they can, but the process will be slow.

Soon you have crossed the shallow water flowing from the Soundt wall to disappear under the Erizt wall, and approach the passage that cuts a square opening in the cave wall. You enter the hall, and begin climbing the stairs there. Harker calls a halt, and signals everyone to be silent. It takes a breathless moment for you to completely comply, but when you do, you hear voices. They seem to come from somewhere ahead, They must be coming from ahead, no one is behind... regardless you can't quite make out what it is. After a few moments of listening you realize it is some chant but you cannot understand it. It gives both Harker and Traesta an uneasy feeling (it's quite unsettling to all of you), but no one can understand the words. They are distorted and barely audible. After a few tense moments, Harker decides there is likely no danger, and you proceed again on your path out of the catacombs.

The voices continue, seeming to follow and mock you.

You top the stairs, and turn the corner to reach the doorway that leads to the chamber with the mask and sundial where you fought the fish-men-things. Harker fumbles with the door for a few minutes as the latch is stiff, and it resists opening, but soon he pulls it open revealing the corpses of the four fish-men-things, twitching as giant rats devour their scaly bodies. The rats look up from their meal at the doorway, and growl at the disturbance. Each of them are nearly the size of a small pony, and they are clearly not intimidated by your arrival. The hair on their backs raise, and they prepare to defend their food from the new predators they perceive in you. The chanting voices are suddenly quiet, as if waiting for the combat that is sure to begin!

I've placed Harker in the doorway so you know which doorway you are at. The rest of you are still in the passage behind him.
Traesta can attempt it, but I don't think she can turn live feral giant rats with the same knack she seems to have with the undead that lurk here.

Igber:
Rat on a stick: Wasn't that a speciality at the fair?

He steps to the right immediately after entering and tries to get the sling to actually throw the stone in the right direction...

Harker and Conweena bolt through the door to make way for the others, Pebble and Traesta directly behind them, but the rats scurry towards them without hesitation. Their size emboldening them so they fear no foe.

The rat between the sun dial and the mask is quickest, and engages Conweena first, but it simply latches onto her shield with a vicious bite. Though she swings the shield back and forth trying to shake it loose to hit it with her axe, she cannot do so, and fails to harm the rabid creature.

Another rat, closer to the group is positioned with it's back to the door, so it reaches Harker after the first one has engaged Conweena. It fearlessly jumps at Harker who is not prepared for it's nimble speed, and it scratches him terribly as it clambers on him, trying to find soft flesh for it's sharp teeth.

Roll a save vs dexterity (1d20) to throw the rat off, or lose your next attack as you must draw your dagger to fight the creature. Fortunately, Paladins are immune to disease, so you don't have that to worry about. If any other character attempts to attack the rat on Harker, any miss may strike Harker instead (Requiring a second attack roll against Harker)

Pebble is more prepared for the rat charging towards him, and is able to attack it as the other rat overtakes Harker. His edge of his blade finds the creature, and quickly removes it's head from it's squirming overlarge body as it squeals in pain.

Traesta finds herself on Conweena's left, near the wall, as the rat races towards her. It bites at her legs that are less well protected by her armor.

She feels a sting as the creatures enormous yellow teeth break the skin of her tibia.
roll 1d20 for chance of disease; on a result of 1, roll a save vs poison to avoid contracting disease

Despite the pain, she takes advantage of the close quarters, placing the rat squarely between her powerful mace and the unyielding stone wall. Viscera and brains splatter as her mace easily crushes the bones of it's skull.

Igber finally finds an angle on the rat attacking Conweena, and lets the stone from his sling fly, striking the rat somehow. The rat, however ignores the sting of the stone, and continues it's aggressive assault on the shieldmaiden.

Dorath attempts to send a sling stone into one of the rats, but is more focused on not hitting his friends than he is on hitting the rats, causing is stone to harmlessly ping off a wall.
