Okay, for everyone playing, it will be 125 points with 125 points of disadvantages. I have the campaign posting site up and will start adding the history as everyone will know it as well as equipment available. By the way, your starting money will be determined from the points put into your professional skill pick.

Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place - but I am not seeing the campaign posting - nothing is posted or nothing is shared yet.

As a newbie, is it worth me getting the Hero System sidekick PDF?

The hero system is a bit different, in several ways. It might help you wrap your head around it, if you learn from reading. It will also give you ideas for costs and such so if what you want isn't in the book, you can ask the DM.

One difference from GURPS is that new skills cost more to start, in Hero, but you get additional levels easier. In GURPS you (used to, anyway) pay an increasing amount as you go up. GURPS character are often generalists while Hero system characters are more specialists.

Note that my impression of GURPS and Hero system is thirty some years old, so things might have changed.

Me too. I haven't had a Hero system game for a long time, and I enjoy the flexibility of the character generation.

If you have any specific questions regarding the system or campaign, let me know. Just a FYI, the amount of points you put into professional skill will dictate your starting money. The number of points times 1,000 will be starting moolah.

As a very general concept, I was thinking of going with a guy who's speciality is vehicles, land and air: driving/piloting and repair type skills, with gun skills as well so he's useful in a fight too.

I'm interested in how we bring cybernetics into the game? I assume you buy the effect as a power, but in game world terms it's cyberware or a genetic alteration?
