All Roads Lead to Red Larch
Year of Shadows 1358 Dale Reckoning (DR)
8th of Ches (March), early evening, cold with light snow

As the sun begins to set on a cold day in early Ches, you see in the distance that lanterns are being lit in one of the most popular waystop towns in the Dessarin valley: Red Larch. Red Larch is a town of roughly 600 folk. It’s about a seven-day ride north of Waterdeep. Red Larch stands atop a long, low ridge that serves as the westernmost edge of a region of monster infested hills.
The ridge was crowned by a landmark brilliant red stand of larches, but the trees were felled long ago by the town’s first settlers. Today, Red Larch is a busy trade town. It’s the site of the local farmers’ market, as well as a large and successful wagonworks, a buckle and lock factory, and a cattle market that attracts buyers from all over the North, and all down the Sword Coast.
Red Larch is also known for a nourishing, though unspectacular, table staple: savory crumblecakes. These are moist loaves of nuts, chickpea mash, chopped roots and greens, and turkey and wildfowl scraps, all baked together. They are wholesome trail food for the traveler. The local inns also serve them, accompanied by various strong sauces, and usually fried onions or gravy.
Three trails intersect the Long Road at Red Larch. One runs southeast through an area of small farms and ranches to Bargewright Inn; a second winds west through the hills to Kheldell, and the third runs east into the hills, to several abandoned, monster-haunted keeps. The keeps used to belong to adventurers and local ranching communities along the Dessarin. Regardless of which trail you came in on, Red Larch is a welcoming community and at least good for a warm bed and some hot food.
Buildings, shops, and homes are constructed fairly close together, and you see a couple of inns, one of which has a turret that looks as if it could fit atop a grand castle. There are several harness-making shops and a wagon works place as well. A few dwarves walk among the humans you see on the sides of the road, talking quietly or laughing jovially amongst themselves. Some are headed to a well-lit place that seems to be a tavern of some sort, while others head for what looks like a quieter place with a wrap around porch.
Here and there a chicken is being chased by a tow-headed child who has a bow slung across their back. A shaggy dog barks a greeting as you approach and try and decide where you wish to go first.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Alright folks > time to sound off and introduce your characters, perhaps even decide if you are coming in as a group or in twos and threes or even solo. Regardless, there is plenty to see and do...but right now...it is really cold outside.
Winter is coming...

A strong and well put together male elf that stands 5'2" with dirty straight blond hair that clumsily hangs down to his shoulders wearing brown clothing with gold trim over his Banded Mail. He is armed with a longsword and bow. He walks into the Bargewright Inn Swinging Sword and takes a few moments to shake off the cold day outside and leaves that behind him. He looks for his friends that he was expecting to meet at the Inn. After he finds his friend he orders some warm stew and an ale.

Bargewright Inn is not in Red Larch!

The door of the Swinging Sword opens, this time for a half-orc woman covered in wool and metal. More prominent than even her weapons is the holy symbol of Ilmater sewn on her tabard. She shakes what little snow clings to her boots and cloak off and takes a moment to soak in the warmth of the inn, looking around to familiarize herself with the clientele. She searches briefly for her companions and once she locates them, takes a seat at their table, greeting them warmly. Having no coin on her, she will ask for some water for now.

Vesper:

"Like a cool breeze on a dark night, I come unseen," Vesper whispers in Mag's ear before she flicks it with one slim finger, a grin on her face. She kicks out a chair from the table where he sits and slides into it's seat. She glances about the room and sees Neogra enter shaking the snow of her cloak. Raising her gloved hand she waves her in the direction of their table. "Colder than Auril's heart out there!," she greets the half-orc, "But at least its warm here and warmer yet more with the companionship of old friends." She leans back her chair, a smile on her lips, as she snaps her fingers trying to get the attention of a server.

Neogra smiles as she takes a seat. "Pretty words for such ugly weather. 'Praying weather' we used to call it back at the monastery." She puts her backpack next to her chair and folds her cloak up on top of it. She leans in closer "Don't snap for the servers. It's rude."

Kol

A rather imposing woman follows the others.. eyes darting everywhere, nervous at being inside such a large establishment. One day she may grow

accustomed to being in a roomful of people, but today is not that day.

A long scar adorns her left cheek, a gift worthy of Barbarian justice. A Large hilt protrudes from her back a massive two handed blade residing. She carries a short bow

and sports a Hide Armor and well worn boots. A pack hangs from her other shoulder from which long brown hair hangs.

She whispers to the others : "We need be here? No sleep outside? You now I not liking big places with many peoples.."

Frowning, she sighs, a big exhale. "Okay but remember last time we go to a big hut trouble I caused. Stupid mage was his fault!"

She laughs heartily, but is still uncomfortable.

An elderly woman dressed in a simple green dress walks over to your table.
"Welcome friends," she says, "to the Swinging Sword. I don't think I've seen you in Red Larch before. I am Jhandlatha. The special tonight is roasted rabbit with dark gravy and potatoes, and black bread. And I recommend a deep Arabellan red to wash it down."

The fire crackles in the hearth and the mood in the inn is jovial with patrons talking quietly and enjoying the niceties of the inn. You note several "escorts" hanging around at the bar and sitting at tables talking with the patrons.
"Hot baths are available as are...guests...for the evening, should you desire company. Don't hesitate to let me know how I can serve you. Now, what can I get you to eat and drink?"
Winter is coming...

Kol

Kol smiles nervously at Jhandlatha.

"I , um , me have what you say. Also, what you mean, com-pany? And do I have to take bath or it ok if not? Er.. thank you nice lady.

Ohhh.... how much for food and red thing?"

Kol reaches for her coin purse hoping she won't have to count too much.

Razillin the door opens and closes to the inn and most folks see nothing but air because they aren't looking down far enough to notice a gnome walk into the place, all well dressed with interesting colored armor on. Taking his wide-brimmed hat off and dusting off any frost or dirt from the road he places it back on his head and twirls a tiny comb through his interestingly styled mustache before looking around the room and sighing. Raising his hand and even jumping to draw attention to a server he asks "Might you have any *ahem* seats sized more appropriate to someone of my stature. All I see thus far are seats for tall folks." as he walks those that actually look his way notice the armor is splint mail though with bronzed plates. The "stylish" gnome appears to have bronzed quite a bit of his armor and even the pommels of his two obvious weapons, and even his wooden shield. "With dwarven folk in town you'd think there was a seat appropriate for a gnome, they are like cousins to us after all." he says with a bit of an irritated sound to his voice until he calms down a bit. "Gond forgive me, I shouldn't be so rude I apologize." he says to anyone looking at him.

Moan

Moan follows the others into the Swinging Sword, ducking as he enters the door. He is an imposing and powerfully built man of nearly 6 and half feet tall in his well worn boots. He is dressed in woolens and leather, with a chain shirt peeking out from under a plain leather surcoat. His face and manner show a history of conflict and his smile shows his friendly attitude. He heads for a spot to sit close to a fireplace if possible with his back to the wall.

"Excellent Jhandlatha, I am always up for rabbit. I will take 2 servings of the rabbit and a simple ale for me. And my friend Neogra over there" He points at the female Half-Orc "will take the rabbit and an ale as well. How much, if you may?"

Neogra is embarrassed but grateful "You're a good friend, Moan. May Ilmater smile upon you."

She notices Razillin entering and waves him over. "Finally, the men arrive, late as always." She smiles at Vesper.

Razillin looks to Neogra and raises an eyebrow "Late? I didn't know we had a specific time to be here. I'll have to pray to Gond for some sort of timekeeping device designs that is portable! Ha well met Neogra. Oh a seat are you sure it is for shorter folk or only talls?" the gnome says with a bit of humor as he makes a sort of jesting nasally tone to his voice.

Vesper:

Nods at Neogra's remark about praying weather, "I'll leave the praying to you dear, I was never one to ask forgiveness for my many sins," though she refrains from snapping her fingers again, "I'm glad to see you again my old friend!," grasping her hand for a moment. At Jhandlatha's request for their order, Vesper asks for the special and of course the wine to wash it all down with, adding at the end that she'd like a hot bath though a bit later.

Vesper laughs as she remembers Kol and the wizard, "Who could forget that? I think I said we should name your sword Roofcutter after what you did to that inn, although in the end, Magecutter might have been more appropriate." Her eyes light up at the sight of Razillan and Moan and she cannot contain a chuckle as Neogra's states the men are late as always. "So true Sister Neogra, men are always so slow unless of course you want them to be."

Razillin chuckles at Vesper "I'll tell you V what a wizard once told me. We are never late we always arrive when we mean to. At least that is my case I can't say for sure with Moan here."

Kol

The big barbarian looks around at everyone. "You all like to talk much, you do. I not habit of talking a lot as you know."

Her ears perk up at the mention of a wizard "Who care what a wizard says hee hee," then a thoughtful look.

"But it sort of okay for speaking of gods, I supposing..... Kord spoken of by our tribe Shaman," she looks down, a tear rolling down her cheek.

She sighs and tries to control her emotions, speaking in a low shaky voice "Me still miss them dearly... stupid Frost Giants gonna pay one day..."

Wiping her cheek and sniffling she attempts a smile and sighs again.

"So, us what we gonna do here in this big village place?"

All Roads Lead to Red Larch
Year of Shadows 1358 Dale Reckoning (DR)
8th of Ches (March), early evening, cold with light snow

More adventurers arrive at the Swinging Sword as the sun sets fully upon the Dessarin Valley...and Jhandlatha greets them all.
The aging proprietor calls a young serving maid over to her to get everyone's order while she answers questions and makes sure folks are settled in as best they can.

"Only if you want a bath dear. We don't force folks to bathe in Red Larch...although there are some who need be be encouraged somehow," she says with a gentile smile. "The special is 1 gold...for all you can eat. Arabellan Red is 3 silver a cup."

The proprietor of the Sword takes a long look at the big ranger and then nods as recognition dawns on her. "Moan, of course..it has been awhile! Good to see you again, and with a lot more companions than last time. What brings you all to Red Larch?"
This last question is addressed to the group.

Several towns folk enter the Swinging Sword as you chat and eat.
One is a stern yet grizzled Dwarf with reddish hair and a full beard. He greets Jhandlatha warmly and takes up a seat at a table near the fireplace. He gives all of you a unabashed once over before ordering the special with ale.

This man looks at the new arrivals, gives Moan a nod, and then orders an ale, asking Jhandlatha to "keep them coming until I tell you otherwise."

Your food and drink arrives soon after and it is quite delicious. You tuck under with relish, noting all the while the three men at the table nearest the fireplace talking and looking in your direction. You also notice a filthy looking scrap of a man talking with two of the escorts, who laugh and blush at whatever he is saying to them, which is too quiet for you to hear. He glances at you a few times, and you realize it is none other than your companion, Bugs. You can almost smell him from where you sit, and from his disheveled appearance, he appears to be quite intoxicated. (Dave?)

Razillin rolls his eyes at the mention of who cares what a wizard says "I care what a wizard says even though I am but a humble cleric of Gond Kol. Ha you calling this place big that is funny. I take it you have never been to Waterdeep, Amn or Baldur's Gate." the gnome chuckles.

Appreciatively smiling and noding for the crated boost to get into the chair the gnome sits down and takes off his fabulous hat that has a big feather sticking out of it. "Hmm to eat and drink yes well do you perhaps have any of that splendid loaf I've heard so much about? That and some hot tea if you will please." he says to Jhandlatha.

The gnome smiles as the dwarf looks at the group and nods his head. As for answering the proprietor's question the gnome keeps quite for a moment. Then says "Well we all agreed to meet up here in six months most of us had other matters to attend to and this was more or less the middle ground for us to meet at on our return. Though it appears one of our number is missing." indicating Dave's character which I don't see any name or any post for so I can always edit this.

Moan

"Master Razillin has the right of it, we parted ways some months ago and agreed to meet here to catch back up."
He looks over the area near him by the wall. "Mistress Jhandlatha, in an effort to be polite I left my moor hound Cu outside waiting outside on the porch. He is very well mannered, would you mind if I brought him inside? He could lay here against the wall with me and be out of the way. I would order him a serving of your wonderful rabbit and gravy of course."

2gp and 2sp deducted from sheet.
