[5960.2] Battle
[5960.2] Battle
Briefing Section, Bridge, USS Inceku Engabonakali (NX-14)
Thelin recognized the face of the spiritualist, despite the now regulation haircut and CPT insignia on his uniform. LT T'See stood next to the CPT. Both LT Runyon and LTJG B'Aarr were on Thelin's team, and present. ENG2 Kyle Harris stood in the corner. Commodore Ganbaatar was present, and barefoot.
Ganbaatar looked at each person, but said nothing. His head bowed as he leaned on the table's display screen everyone was gathered around. "The Klingon Empire has attacked a Star Fleet vessel deep in Federation space. Star Fleet personnel are captives, and I will not sit idly by while that happens. Some of us will not survive; but if we do not try, do we actually live? Captain Dellain, it's your plan. Brief us."
"Yes, sir." The CPT stood a little straighter than Thelin remembered. "The Hussy is heavily armed and will retain most of her crew. Offensively, she is a match for a standard Klingon Cruiser. Captain Mvot's vessel is a cargo ship with some offensive capability and next generation sensor arrays. His plan was to establish a trade mission with Prakziz in preparation for next month's Court of Imperial Favors. The Klingons who style themselves as 'upper' maintain a small contingent of 'lower' Klingons in the Imperial government. Mvot was attempting to win a seat in that contingient."
The CPT grinned, but it was more feral than jovial. He pointed at the star map on the console. "Perhaps we can help with that. Mvot was legally, if surrpetisously, in Federation space. The Klingon cruisers sent after him were not. The Klingons must either disavow the cruisers or start a war over an internal holiday. If Mvot has a hand in 'solving the problem' then his star is rising and he will achieve his goal, albeit not according to plan. His ship will feed our battle computers with live updates on the enemy status, and he will contribute whatever offensive capability he can."
Ganbaatar nodded. "LTCMDR Thelin, you, Runyon, and B'Aarr are assigned to the Farragut. Take ENS Henri, she's been studying their weapon systems. You should be able to remove the system locks and bring the Farragut back on-line. We'll have a medical and security team join you, just in case."
"Illy, you and T'See head over to Mvot's ship. She says Harris understands the recent performance tunings enough to get us into battle. Mvot's shuttle is docked, and waiting for you."
"Any questions?"
Open for PC questions or comments. Once they are done:
"Then godspeed and good hunting to each of you. Dismissed," Ganbaatar said. He glanced at ENG2 Harris and scowled. "Lieutenant, you're out of uniform. Fix that and then go tend my engines."
As he sat in the captain's chair, Ganbaatar smiled. "Flo, sound Battle Stations. This is not a drill."

Lt Runyon
Sir, do you know if the Fatrragut is occupied or merely offline? Evicting squatters is a different game to cleaning up after them, it'll need different tools. Well, a bigger selection of tools, anyway.

Bridge
Ganbaatar nodded to Thelin. "The security team will escort you all to the bridge, search the ship, and anyone left behind will be your damage control. You know the risks well; if the battle is extended then we will lose. If we are quick enough then we can do damage control afterwards."
CPT Dellain turned to LT Runyon. "The Klingons won't leave any of their own behind, dead or alive. Absent hard evidence, there is enough deniablity to push back on Federation Diplomatic efforts. We can't even prove they have our people, if we don't get them ourselves."
Transporter Room
Once all questions were resolved, CPT Dellain and his staff boarded Mvot's shuttle to the Klingon trader. The Hussy made fastest speed to the Farragut. Scanners were iffy on life signs aboard, but life support was operational and the engines were in maintenance mode. Shields were set for stationary, and the Hussy could get close enough to use its only transporter to move six people at a time.
Med4 White was a short, elderly human female. She reported to Thelin, "Sir, we have modified three of our med scanners to lose specificity but increase range. We should be able to locate survivors if we do a corridor by corridor search, unless they are shielded. There are six of us total, and our plan is to operate in pairs, combining search and triage as needed. Do you have any further orders?"
The half dozen security guards assigned to Thelin look capable enough, and eager to bash some Klingon heads. They carry a variety of energy, slug, blade, and explosive weapons.
The transporter chief looked at Thelin. "Who's going first, and where do you want to go?"

Lt Runyon shuffles unobtrusively back until he is at the rear of the group. He has never trusted Transporters, and has no intention of being in the experimental first party. I don't know why we can't fly over in a shuttle, they'd never expect that.

USS Farragut
The saucer strut was less shielded, and the transporter tech put you in a wide corridor near the access ladders. Everyone knew the lifts would be disabled, and likely booby-trapped, but there were plenty of access paths that would let the teams go wherever needed.
Red Alert klaxons rang down the corridor. Phaser blast marks were on the walls, and the smell of burned flesh hung in the air. There was a faint smoke overlay, but no obvious source of fire.
The first team consisted of Thelin, B'Aarr, and four security guards. The guards moved into defensive positions almost before the transporter effect stopped.
"Clear forward," the lead guard said. Weapons were up and ready. The rear responded, "Clear back."
The lead guard turned to Thelin. "Two of us in front, two in back at all times. Which direction, sir?"
Hussy's Transporter Room
The transporter tech struggled with overcoming the Farragut's shields, but managed to get the first team off the pad. He was sweating a bit, and then turned to Runyon, "You're up!"

Watching the tech struggle Fearghal begins to wish he'd gone first, and lived in blissful ignorance.
Sweating somewhat himself, but keeping up a cheerful front, he makes himself stroll to the transporter pad.
Up and over, like a spirited yearling, eh? Now you've the knack of it, you'll be wanting us away so you can be about something challenging, I suppose. Now, don't let the boredom of it distract you, the Commander won't be happy if I arrive with anything missing that I need for the mission, you know.

"We will be splitting into two teams. You two", Thelin says pointing to the two lead guards "will be coming with me, Lt. Runyon, half the security team from the second wave and half the medical personnel to retake the bridge. Lt B'Aarr, you will take the remaining forces including Ensign Henri and regain control of the Engineering section. The key here is scan then move. but we have to watch for traps and if possible free the crew. While we are waiting for the rest of the boarding party please begin your scans."
If Thelin get no questions then he begins scanning with his tricorder looking for life signs.

Fearghal opens his eyes, checks everything about himself looks normal, and exhales in relief at being safe.
Lt Runyon cheerfully announces Present and correct, Sir. The Bridge, aye. When I have it, will I take us anywhere immediately, or just tidy up while you join us?
Addressing the security and medical team members: You heard the Commander, half of you with me. I have confidence in all of you, so I will allow you to decide among yourselves who wants to come with me. Wouldn't do to pick favourites, now, would it?
Turning his back he produces his own scanner and, checking it, starts walking toward the Bridge.

USS Farragut
To the Bridge
Fearghal was certain the transporter took longer than expected, and he seemed to be in both places several times. Nevertheless, everything important seems to make the trip, and he joined in the scanning.
Thelin and the team are about to enter a small access chamber when the lead security guard held up a fist; the 'stop in place' signal. He leaned slightly into the chamber, searched 360 with his pump shotgun, and then motioned 'stay'.
Thelin saw multiple Federation bodies on the floor, and multicolor Federation citizen blood splattered on the walls. The crew were violently dismembered. The guard quickly inspected them, touched one, and then retreated to the portal. "Torn apart, and parts missing. These four are fresh; they died after the Klingons left."
To Engineering
The passage to Engineering was quiet for the first bit, and then Andrhonal began to smell burning electronics. Continuing on, he and the team made their way to an atmo duct cover. It would be an easy move into the section.
There were fires blazing out of storage containers. Andrhonal scanned the section and detected multiple IEDs attached to various critical components.
One of the med techs had crawled past Andrhonal, to the next duct, and then whispered back. "Sir, life forms in the wall on the far side. I think humanoid, but the section walls are too shielded."

Lt Runyon
Keeping his attention on the scanner, Fearghal calls up one of the security team: Would you care to take a stroll by my side? I've my hands full with the wonders of science here, it would be a comfort to me if you would keep your eyes on the path, to keep me from the embarrassment of tripping over something.
Now, shall we stride out with confidence and reclaim friend Fatgut for the Federation?
Runyon wants to move as fast as possible to the bridge, but has no desire to run headlong into trouble, so he tempers his pace.

USS Farragut, Engineering section
LTJG B'Aarr, ENS Henri, 3 security, 3 medical
The med tech at the other duct raised her eyebrow, shouldered her tricorder, and drew her phaser. She waited until Andrhonal pushed his duct open, and then she did the same.
The Klingon IEDs were easy to spot, and avoid. The three security guards and one med tech spread out and moved with coordination across the section. No one spoke, but they pointed out more IEDs. The wall that had been identified was a standard storage section, and Andrhonal was able to open it. The guards stood ready.
Four teens spilled out; one male and three females. They all wore SFA Midshipman uniforms and they looked worse for wear. All four of them came out ready to fight bare-handed, but they froze when they saw Andrhonal.
"Who are you, and what are your intentions?" One of the females, a Vulcan, said.
To keep things moving along
After dealing with the teen cadets, Andrhonal has the IEDs and Engineering to deal with. One of the Security team members understands explosives; "Gramps didn't take well to tree stumps in the hay field!"
Time is limited, and the task list is long. Depending on how Andrhonal deals with the cadets, they may be able to help.
The team needs to:
- ensure the IEDs are neutralized (Eng roll at -2, or let the Security guy do it)
- unlock basic Engineering functions (Eng roll at +2)
- Bring ship systems back on line (each at Eng +2, it's not complex once the IEDs are gone):
- - Power
- - Warp
- - Sensors
- - Helm
- - Weapons, energy
- - Weapons, photon
- - Shields (currenly at partial power)
Each task takes one time unit (TU), which is roughly 15 minutes. Except for the first two (IED, unlock) which must be done sequentially, the rest can be done in tandem. Andrhonal can attempt more than one task, but each one takes a -2 modifier. That is, if he tried Power and Warp, the rolls would be straight Eng skill.
Feel free to run with the scene. Use the NPCs as a part of the operation, if you like.

USS Farragut, Access corridors
LTCMDR Ch'tihlot, LT Runyon, 3 medics, 3 security
One of the medics emptied his guts when he saw the bodies, and one of the security detail joined him. "Sorry, sir," both said, once they pulled themselves back together.
The route to the bridge required climbing, and the team began. Two minutes in, the trailing security guard screamed and fell. The trailing med tech yelled "It's behind us!"
The lead security guard pressed himself aganist the bulkhead, holding on to the latter with one hand. "Move! Move! We'll stop it!"

Re: [5960.2] Battle
Thelin
"We need to keep heading for the bridge. Security you are not to chase whatever it is, but cover our flank and seal the hatches as we go. We are staying together." The two officers take over point followed by the medics and the remaining security guarding the rear.
Once the team makes it to the bridge, Thelin points to the two security guards and says "Do what you can to secure the door and watching that is your top priority.".
Thelin will pull out his communicator and say, "Commander Ch'tihlot to Lt. B'Aarr, we have reached the bridge and will need your help to reestablish power to all systems. Without knowing how long something will take to fix, the priority is sensors, maneuverability, weapons and shields. Please report when able."
He then looks at the medical team and asks "Do any of you have Sensor training?" If one or more says yes, he will pick one and if none of them do, then he selects the smallest one and says "Once the sensors are back-up let me know what is going on outside and then use the ships sensors and find me some life signs. The other two of you respectfully move the bodies so we are not tripping over them as we work."
"Lt Runyon let us get that helm station ready for when we get power." he then looks to the room and says "Everyone has a job to do let us get it done."
