Thena

It's settled then... we leave in the morn. Mr. Tallow, the offering of conveyance is appreciated and it looks like a few of us will take you up on this offer. Could I also ask for a detailed map of the area between here and Brindleseep? I would assume the merchants guild would have such... commerce would be attracted to such trappings I would assume.

As the conversation w/ Mr. Tallow comes to a close Thena will hold back with her comrades in the private room to discuss...

Wilwayaisawén

Wilwarin remains silent through much of the meeting, partly because the others have asked the questions she had, partly stung by the implication she should not be there.

At the end she approaches Mr Tallow:

It seems Liviel is to be part of this desperate mission. That is well, she has shown her strength by enduring what she has. However, her skill is as a Mage, and she lost her Spellbook to the bandits that captured her and her sister. If she is to useful, indeed, if we are to succeed, I request that you supply her with a replacement. I, too, have some learning. Perhaps you have spell-scrolls to aid us in this venture? We face a powerful foe, after all. Any assistance you could render would increase our chance of success.

Whatever the response, she sits quietly back down to hear what her companions think of the task before them.

Mave

Sits quietly trying to process all that was said. The very least he could do is provide us with scrolls or potions she thinks. After all, it is his mine we will be saving as well. But she voices none of this.

Tallow listens thoughtfully to Wilwarin's request, "I think that a fair request. Liviel will be provided with a spellbook and any scrolls in her area of knowledge that are in my private stock." Then said louder so that the rest of the group may hear, "I will also provide whatever potions or scrolls I have on hand, that may be of use. Alas my stock is quite limited, but I hope to provide each of you with a small supply. Now if there are no further questions, I think we can consider this meeting adjourned."

Tallow waits for any other requests and responds. When all has said their piece, he leaves the inn accompanied by his guards. You may use the private room for any further discussion or if you wish your other companions to join you, they can come in. Thena's family will provide you with any nourishment you need and fresh beds for the night.

I prefer to list items that are in the saddle bags if possible because it is easy to track in the DM software I use.

Thena

Will welcome all missing comrades to the private room to discuss, if needed. (as well as several pitches of local ale)

Should we recover this artifact I don't think it should be returned to Mr. Tallow. Better to take it Hammerfall for destruction... or safekeeping...

Thena will aquire her steed before turning in as well as the following, hopefully on Mr. Tallow's tab:
Saddle bags
10 days iron rations
2 water skins
Hooded lamp
6 vials of oil

She would like to confer with Mr. Tallow regarding the acquisition of a map and any potential healing magic that he might have.

Tallow listens to Thena's requests and agrees with her equipment requisition. "I will have your items delivered this evening. You may choose a steed, as well as any of your companions in need, from the remaining stable in town. Before you set out tomorrow, I will deliver some healing potions and scrolls to be divided amongst you. I'm afraid that is the limit of my stores here. I have sent word to Brindleseep of your impending arrival. Now if there is nothing else, I wish you well on your journey and this endeavor."

Athan and Torvik's rangers await outside the room drinking and enjoying their evening meal. I will assume you want to discuss Athan accompanying you to Brindleseep.

Thena and Torvik may pick and name mounts of their choice from amongst the remaining stable's stock.

If there isa pony, mule, or goat that would be Torvik's preference.

Mave

Mave will take the time to speak privately to Bryne about talking to Athan. She was his newfound sister, after all, so a request from her might have more weight to it. She watches with admiration as Thena finagles more equipment from Tallow...good for her! She was sure the old coot could afford it anyway. After the conversation dies down she will find her room and try to get a good night's sleep.

Before the night ends, Bryne asks Athan to delay his delivery of the attacker's letter, and accompany them to Brindleseep. He agrees since he will be riding in the direction of the road to Brindleseep anyway, as it is on the way to Belay.

That evening, Liviel is escorted to Tallow's residence. She doesn't return until after the rest of you have bedded down for the night and the next morning at breakfast, she reveals that Tallow provided her with a new spellbook the previous night and she spent a good part of the night recording the spells within it.

After a full and hearty breakfast and tearful goodbyes from Thena's family you make ready to leave Lupre. Outside two of Tallow's guards are waiting and along with the young priest Davion. One of the guards holds a heavy wooden chest which he informs you holds six potions of healing (with enough for three doses each in the bottles) as well as three inscribed scrolls from the temple. He is unsure what spells are inscribed on the scrolls, only that they could be used by either Thena or Davion, who Tallow has hired to accompany you.

The other guard then leads Thena, Torvik, Morwen and any others in need of mounts to the stables where vouchers will allow them to select from an assortment of horses and ponies. Alas there are no goats.

You can now decide how you want to distribute the magic you've been provided with and make any other preparations before you leave town. If you want to describe the mount you two choose, feel free, otherwise I'll move things along to a Brindleseep thread.

Thena

Says goodbye, for the moment, to her family. She heads to the stables and secures a fine mount, naming it Manmar. She secures the saddle bags at the same time.

Each of us should carry one of the potions... these are quite the acquisition considering Lupre was just attacked and there is a local need.

She will identify the scrolls.

She gives great thanks to Mr. Tallow for looking to their needs, especially accommodating Liviel.

She will mount her steed and wait for her comrades outside the inn, ready to hit the road.

OCC @GM: Sheet updated with saddle bags and related inventory. Please indicate what the scrolls are and we can distribute among the priests. Can a list of the entire group be documented at this time?

OCC @group: Gah, forgot some holy water but hopefully we can pick some up in Brindleseep.

Torvik agrees about each taking one of the healing potions "Aye! Makes sense ta me." he will see if any of the recruits wishes to come with the group on this expedition or if they wish to stay in Lupre and help there. He will also see what the lady knight plans to do. Then he will head to the stable and see what he can locate for a shorter stature steed such as a mule, pony, some of that same size. Aside from that he will replenish what he can for rations, water and bolts for his crossbow if supplies can be spared.

The three recruits enthusiastically make it known they wish to accompany their commander. They also intend to bring their mule and wagon along so supplies could be shifted to the wagon if need be. Davion who doesn't have a mount will also ride in the wagon with the commander's permission.

Morwen has indicated she will be accompanying you as she feels compelled to help with any undead threat. She chooses a grey mare called Misty. Amongst the stock are three ponies, a male and two mares as well as an older male mule.

Edmure and the rest of Thena's family press various foodstuffs into each of your hands, some of it still warm. You will eat well today, though of course the food won't keep past the day save for the fresh bread.

Once choices are made at the stables, the group make their way out of town and follow, at least in the beginning, the northern pass road taking the southern route. Nicolin the beggar sees you off with a cheer, shouting blessings on you and especially on Wilwarin. You note he has bathed since the battle of Lupre and now wears his dented helm instead of using it as a beggar's bowl.
Several others of the townsfolk and Captain Leiber wait at the town gates seeing you off. Though Tallow is no where to be seen this day.

The morning air is crisp as you start your journey, the feel of fall heavy in the wind and visible in the colorful canopy of the trees you pass. You ride southward for several hours meeting no traffic coming in either direction. You reach the spot where you found the hanging guards and you know the ruins of the inn lie not far ahead.

Wilwayaisawén

Wilwarin accepts one of the potions, saying: It is wise to separate them, in case of misadventure.

Seeing Nicolin somewhat remade Wilwarin smiles and pauses to speak with him: You see, Nicolin, the gods do have use for the man you were and will be.

The encounter reminds her of their conversation when she arrived.

Reaching the gates she rides up to Captain Leiber

Captain, I hope I may have a solution to one of your problems. When we went in search of Liviel and her sister we encountered bandits who used a secret tunnel to communicate with Lupre. A dangerous tunnel, that they feared, but used. I recall that Nicolin told me he frequently saw people enter the herbalist’s shop but never leave. At the time I thought that may be a fancy of his, but now I believe it may be the location of this hidden way. You should make a search, and if you find anything, block it off. I think it too dangerous to explore, but essential to seal.

Mave

Mave will also take one of the potions with thanks. As they leave town, Mave will ride beside Wilwarin and asks if she has received sufficient healing during their layover in Lupre.

Yes, thank you. I discovered the healing waters of the Temple. I even managed to heal Shadow. Lupre is blessed to have such a place.

Torvik decides to name his steed Claude hoping it stands to to the meaning of the name 'strong willed' for the mule.

Torvik chooses Claude (I assume that's the mule?) and as they are readying to leave town Wilwarin informs Captain Leiber of a potential traitor in their midst and he immediately sends a contingent of guards to investigate the herbalist's.

With Bryne in the lead you make some good progress riding past the place where you found the hanged guards and the path leading to the ruined in. After a brief stop for lunch when you chance upon a small shrine to Lathander beside the road, you push onward, again noticing little in the way of traffic. Shortly before nightfall, you come to Fosby's Fork named after a general who died in the barbarian conflicts. At Fosby's Fork you can go southwest which is the road to Belay and which leads to the road to Brindleseep. Or you could go south to the King's Way which will eventually lead to the capitol. The hometowns of both Bryne and Mave lie in that direction.

There is a walled inn to the right of the fork called The Midway Inn, which is quite large with its own stable, a working forge and a large open courtyard where travelers who can't afford to stay inside the inn itself are welcome to bed down in the relative safety of it's walls beside two small campfires. You debate whether to make use of the inn for the night or to push onward and camp further along beside the road.
