On The Lookout For Danger
Starday, 27th of Goodmonth
Late Morning, Clearing, Warm, Buggy

As the group stops to visually scour the distant tree line where they spotted movement, pointing the area out to each other as they discuss their options, no more signs of movement are spotted.

The lizards don't seem overly spooked by it all, but they aren't exactly keen on going in the direction the elves and human are watching. Narramore whispers a few more things to the huge creatures, successfully attempting to slip a rope around their necks while watching to avoid a trampling if things should go south.

Keyon suggests that they fly closer to find out what might be hiding in the bushes, asking the others who will come along with him.

Elnaerel

Thinking that the danger has passed, Elnaerel will try to help Narramore with the two (?) lizards. "I'm thinking that maybe you and me could go back riding these lizards back to town while Feanol and Keyon fly over us with the carpet... But wasn't there a dwarven outpost just north of Beachtown on the road?"

Keyon and Narramore

"Well..." Narramore sends the beasts a speculative glance. "I don't know if we've gentled them sufficiently, but there's one sure way to find out, hey?" He'll take a breath, then speak softly to the creatures while reaching across it's back to apply a little weight and see how it responds. If it doesn't buck, he'll lie across the lizard's back for a moment and apply still more weight...providing that goes well, he will attempt to use the rope as reigns and slip gently astride the beast.

Keyon will watch the treeline and back across the clearing while this experiment takes place.

If it goes well, they'll all try to move toward the trail that takes them back to Clifftown. If the beast won't take a rider, he'll try to lead them on foot.

I honestly can't recall where everything is regarding the Stoneguts, so Elnaerel is probably right. Were we wanting to go back the way we came to Clifftown and add these two to the town's supply of beasts of burden? I'm always open to direction, as I'm horrible with remembering things...even important ones, at times.

I'm curious where the trampled area to the north might lead, too.

Elnaerel

Elnaerel will just watch how Narramore deals with the lizards and stays at the ready in case something goes awry and she has to help the paladin.

It's gonna be hard to go back the way we came with the lizards since we came flying :-p But using the trail will be dangerous too as I'm sure they were building a watchtower or something right at the northern exit (or entrance) of Beachtown.

Narramore takes a bit more time to gently encourage the huge lizard to allow him to mount it. This takes a few tries, but the paladin is eventually able to get aboard the back of the massive beast of burden. With even more urging, he is able to get it to move forward with him on top. Elnaerel watches with curiosity, wondering if she could do the same.

As the group slowly meanders towards the trail that leads back to the beach, Keyon and Feanol are eager to get a closer look at the tree line. As usual, they see nothing specific in the distance, but the feeling of being observed does not abate.

Elnaerel

Elnaerel will carefully approach and try to caress the other lizard gently. If she gets to touch it but the animal seems still fearful, she will cast Remove fear on it (who knows, maybe it pays to try).

Elnaerel tries magic to sooth her huge, mostly docile beast. The lizard seems to calm even more, allowing her to climb aboard if she wishes to do so.

Narramore doesn't want to lose any progress he made with his mount, so he continues walking it towards the trail the leads to the beach. Elnaerel can follow along with her new mount as well.

Keyon and Feanol slowly float closer to the edge of the jungle, their elven senses screaming that there is something amiss near by, even though they still cant make out what it might be.

Actions?

With Paladin away, this one might get tricky. Is the general idea here to reach the known trail and start heading back to town with the new lizards?

Feanol

Noticing that Naramore and Elnaerel have gotten cooperation from two of the gentle beasts and are heading for the beach she says to Keyon "They've got them lets go scout ahead for them. Whatever is here doesn't seem to want to stop us so lets leave it, and head back with these two."

Elnaerel

Seeing that their companions are scouting ahead of them, Elnaerel tries her luck and mounts on the lizard. "Alright, let's get out of here, Sir William. Why don't you ride your lizard? We can go faster that way. When there is sign of danger ahead of us we can try to hide in the jungle... At some point we'll have to leave the road and go around though... I insist that I think I heard someone mention there's a dwarven outpost right north of the old Beachtown."

That's pretty much the idea, yes. Ride back to Clifftown ASAP, avoiding the road and dwarf patrols when/if possible.

Starday, 27th of Goodmonth

After reuniting again, the group heads for the trail back to the beach. With Keyon and Feanol riding on his flying carpet, and the other pair riding atop their new battered lizard mounts.

About 100 feet before they exit the clearing for the narrow trail, the elves are surprised and embarrassed to see three pairs of dwarves step out of the jungle in different positions to block their path. The are fully armored and aim loaded heavy crossbows in your direction. They don’t call out however, possibly waiting for a reaction.

Feanol

Casting Sleep in the position best to catch all 6 of them and any that might still be in the bushes around them.

Ahlmzhad, they are three pairs

Elnaerel

If all the dwarves fall asleep:

Elnaerel dismounts, runs towards the dwarves and starts disarming them. "Quickly, we should take all of their weapons and provisions and put them on the carpet, so we can use them!" And he will add in elfin. "Don't say where we come from, so we can keep them guessing. Maybe they'll think we come from that town on the beach and attack them instead of us." She says this last sentence with a bit of irony hoping that, if any other dwarves hear and have some understanding of elfin, they we'll think they may come from other place but at the same time her companions will detect the irony, being elfs themselves (with the exception of Sir William Narramore). "If any of you have any spare rope, we can tie them to a tree in the jungle and gag them. I-I don't want to kill them in cold blood."

If none or not all of them fall asleep:

"Charge!" She will charge with her mount and try to ride past the dwarfs, riding as far she can down the road until she spots any other potential enemy, in which case she will take a turn and try to hide in the jungle. She will look behind her from time to time and compel the others, specially the knight that's on land with her, to come along.

I know you already know this but…..

Her current range for Sleep is 50 feet. (that’s why the DM detailed them at 100 feet away) And since they are currently in three separate pairs, Feanol will know that the best she could do is to cast the spell at one of their groups.

So, since we are all controlling Paladins characters, would she like to have Keyon fly closer first? It looks like Elnaerel is going to charge towards them despite 6 crossbows being pointed at her, so please go ahead and talk about what you want K and SN to do.

Feanol will encourage Keyon to get closer so she can get more of the dwarves in the spell.

Yeah, I made some assumptions there.

Let's say Keyon will approach from above in order to allow Feanol to cast the spell and Sir William Narramore will stay put. Both him and Elnaerel as if obeying the dwarves' commands.

I hope Paladin comes back before all of his characters are dead.

The Dreaded Dwarves
Starday, 27th of Goodmonth
Late Morning, Clearing, Warm, Buggy

While Narramore and Elnaerel stay put on their stolen lizard steeds 100 feet in front of the armed dwarves they just stole them from, Feanol urges Keyon forward and upward, having him fly closer to the dwarves so she can unleash her magic upon them.

Reluctantly agreeing to do so, the carpet captain edges close enough for her to start her spell. All 6 dwarves fire on the overhead carpet, three of their missiles tearing through the magic rug, one of them deeply penetrating Keyon’s left butt cheek. 4 dam

While they reload, Feanol casts her magic, watching as two of their numbers drop helplessly to the jungle floor.

Before any celebrations are started, Elnaerel and Narramore notice three more pairs of surly dwarves with crossbows exit the jungle from both sides of the trail up ahead.

Actions?

That makes for a total of ten conscious dwarves remaining. All of them are either directly in front of you, or below you at the moment.

Elnaerel

Elnaerel will try to ride pass the dwarves. Maybe she'll be able to ride over one of them, which would be easier since they're scattered.

I would say the same for Narramore and you guys on the carpet try to leave the place too.

Even if we get to leave, bad thing is that they saw us stealing their mounts.
