Quest #36 "Out Of The Jungle, Into The Swamp"

Tlachtga
Are conditions still acceptable for call lightning?
If so she will move to within range of the swarm and start her spell.

Given they have some breathing room with the cifal retreating, he scans the surrounding swamp for any significant features, noting how much it has changed since when they left.

Torbath
Seeing that the One is not immediately attacking, Torbath will say
"Tlachtga great idea on the spell, just hope there is enough time. Lerrick be ready to activate the gem if the One comes back. If it does not attack we will hold our position let Tlachtga lightning it and then we will rush what is left, and turn on the gem and I will use my Anti-Nature wand. If the One decides to attack before that same plan be it will be moving to us.
Alordan, I have two flasks of oil perhaps you can use them as a weapon with the aid of Theo's torch.
Aliendron since you do not have any more Sleep do you have access to Spiritual Hammer, even if the damage is limited it will allow you attack from a distance without exposing yourself?"
Then Torbath tries to calm Comet.
Sorry for calling the gem a bottle in a previous post.

Aliendron
"I do have access to that spell, yes." He gazes thoughtfully at the distant mass of insects. "It is regenerating. Drawing upon individual insects in the area. How was it able to grow to and maintain itself at that huge size, though?" He continues scanning for anything ... aside from the obelisk ... unusual in the swamp. "The previous Elder mentioned the generation of insects had gone awry. Obviously producing much more than intended given their ubiquitous presence on the island. What is driving this?"

Theo stands with his boots sunk in the mud and the skirts of his steel chainmail below water. Err... I've seen what happens when lightning strikes a tree near a pool of water. All of the fish and frogs died instantly and floated up to the top. Everyone feasted for two days, then we had dried salted fish all winter. The frog legs spoiled, we should have eaten them fresh.... But anyway, I've never seen a lightning spell cast. Um... Is it safe to cast one of those above water?

Alordan gratefully takes a flask of oil for something useful to do. He looks around, "Now what? Are we back to the drawing board?!?"

Torbath
Torbath repeats the plan for Alordan's benefit
"Tlachtga will start her Call Lighting spell. Lerrick be ready to activate the gem if the One comes back. If it does not attack we will hold our position let Tlachtga lightning it and then we will rush what is left, and turn on the gem and I will use my Anti-Nature wand. Alordan (with the oil) and Theo (with the torch) can work on burning it. Aliendron can use Spiritual Hammer. If the One decides to attack before that same plan be it will be moving to us and not waiting for the lighting."

Re: Quest #36 "Out Of The Jungle, Into The Swamp"
This update will detail the next 9 rounds of actions.
The Smoke Finally Clears
The Dead Marsh
Moonday, 8th of Harvester?
Mid Morning, Cloudy, Humid, Buggy
Torbath thinks he knows the way to finally defeat this bizarre buggy anomaly, calling out his plan of attack to get everyone on the same path. Once the smoke is clear enough again, Tlachtga restarts her long summoning spell, calling for the powers of nature to combine to give her the spark she needs to bring some serious lightning down upon this swarm.
Theo continues to warn the group about the mixing of lightning and water, looking down at the waterline just above his knees with great concern. The ranger and his superior gather more dried grasses to keep their torches burning while the druid chants towards the sky.
Lerrick stays ready with the Mega-Gem, watching as the swarm continues to grow in size again. Aliendron looks around the swamp, seeing less of the smaller mounds they noticed earlier. By the looks of the jungle to the south, and the clearings to the north, the areas surrounding the marshlands don't appear all that different to him.
As Tlachtga's summoning gets louder, the black swarm eventually reforms into a semi-humanoid shape again, slowly stomping through the swamp towards the group. It gets to a mere 20 feet from the group as she is about to unleash her power, close enough for the others to react as well, if they wish. Alordan pops the stopper on his flask of oil, hoping they have enough firepower to end this thing once and for all.

Levitates twenty feet and casts Spiritual Hammer.

Once the strike hits we can return to the water and charge the One. When Torbath get close enough it will be time to use the Anti-magic wand.

Alordan's eyes go wide and he looks down only to be reminded of his wet feet. Preferring not to be electrified - whatever that means - he tries to step into the portal or out of the water before the spell is cast.
Re: Quest #36 "Out Of The Jungle, Into The Swamp"
uh oh..<gulp> how far are we away from The One. Can you take into account lesser damage the farther we are away from the foe?
Re: Quest #36 "Out Of The Jungle, Into The Swamp"
It's a good thing ordinary water doesn't conduct magical electricity. I saw that somewhere, but I can't find it now. Maybe in the psionics addendum or the 1e Fiend Folio.

I misinterpreted the early GM sarcasm and saying we listened to the warnings about the water - I guess not.
