Nice!

Sven shrugs and looks around for the wizards cat, wondering what color it will be today. If he finds it, he simply asks in common.

“Hey there Mephistoffol. Do you know where to find any wild catnip around these parts?”

If when there is no reply, Sven looks around for Gerdal next.

Sven will look under the goose to check on the progress of his Rust Monster egg in between studies one day.

The Tower of Mazzah

Checking, the rust monster egg is in the process of hatching, being incubated by two geese. It might be fully out of the shell in a couple of weeks, certainly while you are in Helix.

Excited about the idea of having his own tame monster as a Guild mascot, Sven tosses the geese an extra handful or two of corn kernels for their excellent effort.

He finds Mazzah again. "Say Master M, I have a question for you. We found a coffer in the maze that had mold spores inside that came out when we opened it. Can you think of any way to neutralize the spores without damaging anything else that might be inside?"

"Do you think making it very cold somehow would do the trick? Any other suggestions?"

The Tower of Mazzah

Mazzah the Magnificent, considers your question. "The spores likely reacted to something before the eruption of the choking cloud. Something triggered them. Tremorsense that you were close, light, heat?

I had worked on a very cold, ice cold magic once. Not sure how effective that was. Seemed to trigger itself at odd times. Gave a young lady some experimentals. Haven't seen her for twenty years."

He munches on some summer fruit, a peach as it happens while we he talks. "If warmth was the trigger, body heat for example, then sneaking up without radiating warm blood might be effective. Ah! That undead friend you had. See, he might have had some uses as he was.

If light was the trigger then search in darkness. If both heat and light then send an undead in the dark.

Or try to counter the spore effect. Most of the microbes are breathed in, some masking up might help. Or double masked, triple even if you follow Fauci's Snake-oil and Injectorcides regime."

He goes off scribbling notes, drawing pictures of underwater breathing apparatus and suits of armour. "Now if the armour was filled with water but you could breath underwater and the suit didn't sprout any leaks then you could open the coffer that way. Or perhaps use expendables."

You know, cheap vagabond labourers. They go open the coffers, fish out the treasure, drop dead, you raid their body afterwards."

He goes on, muttering about minor globes of invulnerability, flame tongues, acid breath.

Of course you have some attendance to do in his laboratory as well, assisting in his spell craft projects with the anti-ghoul paralysis potions and you take his counsel in your own experiments.

A little late to the party, on her way to check on Sven's and her lab in Mazzah's tower, Gerdal stops by Mephistoffol for a cuddling session and some crayfish treats for the cat.

"Hi there little fellow. Yes, you smell good too. I would like to ask you where the catnip grows around these parts. Maybe you want me to bring a rat for you to play with? Or a weasel, huh?"

Sven looks up with one eye at the senior mage’s comment.

“Have you really done that before? I don’t know. It seems……..kinda extreme.”

“I think we are gonna try wind. Triple masking, and wind.”

“I do so love listening to your ideas though.”

The Tower of Mazzah

Gerdal takes some time aside during her laboratory recess to follow up on a request from Sven in regard to sourcing some fresh nepeta cataria for a 'bone-headed associate'.

Mephistoffol, purrs after the snacks and Gerdal casts a Speak with Animals spell to interact with the puss.

"So the lady wants some help? Catwort? Fancy a roll in it yourself do you? Ease those back pain and rheumatoid arthritis. Or just ease the mind and go free? Whatever? Sure I know where some wild sprigs grow. Best go in the dark though, avoid the locals and under the moon, the flowers releases the freshest nepetalactone that wards away insects and chills a cat to his bone.

Not sure if last time I went by the graveyard I was hallucinating or not, but well, go after dark and have a roll and see for yourself."

The cat meows backs, languidly loafing against a window pane. "Information is expensive though. Costs you a favour too. Smuggle me one of his fat ones and light it up for me. Cat has to chill every now and then."

The cat paws at Mazzah's box of cigar tobacco.

Gerdal gives that cat a long stare, but eventually answers.

"I will see to that. Thank you Mephistoffol."

Then she leaves, but turns around in the doorway on her way out.

"And don't sit to far out in the window opening today, it's really windy outside. I see how you lean out sometimes to catch the birds that are flying by. I need you to stay healthy and strong, you hear me?"

Mephistoffol meows.

Disgruntled because you didn't snip down a cigar and light one up for him. He lifts his chin and pads off sticking his tail in the air.

"Just be careful if you go harvesting Catnip in the graveyard after midnight. You might bump in to things you are not supposed to."

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought Gerdal had to sneak in later and steal one incognito. If you see my post to Sven, I discuss that. If the box is there and Mazzah is not present I would like to retro that decision.

no too late. Ha!

You get to the box and it is empty. You can treat him (and Mazzah) next time but your Speak with Animals did provide details of a source of the flora.

Sven returns to the tower as soon as possible, checking on the progress of Mother Goose and her rusty colored egg before meeting up with his respected mentor.

“Master M! Glad to see you still retain all your digits”, he jokes.

As they catch up on the most recent trip into the maze, Sven pulls out the strange plague mask. “Have you ever seen something like this before? I’d bet you have.”

Then he shows him the vial of mummy dust. “What about this?”

The Tower of Mazzah

Mazzah is about his studies. Flashbangs of chemicals and compounds shower sparks around the laboratory, he mutters stirring the mortar and pestle and gibbering in lucid language that alternates between high runic incantations and Alastar level gutter ramblings.

The rust monster egg progresses, fractures already spreading on the surface and the two geese (indentured townsfolk?) tasked with its incubation are almost finished at their nesting task. You may take it with you to the BRAG when you go.

The Vial of Mummy Dust, is in effect a biological weapon. Handle with care. The pepper like flakes contain a necrotising bacteria that will inflict Mummy Rot in those exposed to it. It could be handled and studied more under lab-like conditions if appropriate safety was implemented.

Inferring here for example that using it in a compound to create a Potion of Undead Control that fails the crafting check might cause the catastrophic release of the spores to infect the Alchemists. So use it with care or just throw it at some rotten rascal to make them even more rotten. There are a few specialist alchemists who might be researching such higher level enchantments, spells and potions and value the compound.

The plague mask, "looks like a gas mask for a big nosed person." It certainly seems to fit in a way that it could be air tight and it appears to have some kind of filters fitted. The lens are thick and possibly the wearer has enhanced vision, as bird's eyes are more focussed. Could it give infravision, seeing invisible, true sight, witch sight seeing in total or magical darkness?

Sven nods at the suggestions.

"I think I will attempt to Identify the powers of the mask myself, with your permission and aid, if possible."

"I understand items like this one need to be handled, and sometimes even donned, in order to find their real properties. So all I ask is that if something bad were to happen to me while I am studying these things via magical scrying, that you will do what you can to save me from any adverse effects it might bestow upon me that I cant remedy myself."

If the wizard agrees to watch out for him, Sven will cast an Identify spell upon the plague mask.

The Tower of Mazzah.
If the wizard agrees to watch out for him, Sven will cast an Identify spell upon the plague mask.
You can cast the Identify during a day of downtime using the laboratory chamber or an attic room in Mazzah's tower.

Sven casts Identify vs 40% [1d100]=30 [1d100]=7 [1d100]=89 [1d100]=29 [1d100]=17

He has a few minutes of such intense study and arcane investigation that it takes eight hours to fully recover. However the casting is quite enlightening and reveals the Impurax Mask has a few enchanted traits.

a) as suspected, an immunity to poison gases or from being affected by 'atmospheric' spells such as Stinking Cloud.

b) granting the wearer a +1 save vs non-Impurax related poisons or diseases. (Not including gas or spore, breathed in ones).

c) the ability to cast once per day Monster Summoning I: limited to 'relational' creatures such as Vultures, Toads, Rats, Crows, creepy-crawlie vermin types.

d) the lens are augmented to grant Infravision to a 'bird's eye' standard (so improved narrow focus and possibly greater depth of vision through the misty wilderness).

e) Impurax knows you are wearing it!

Sven resistance to shadow magic vs 25% [1d100]=50 Sven spell save vs 11+: Impurax bane [1d20]=12

Taking off the headwear before any unforeseen complications can afflict you.

Great rolls!!!

Once finished, Sven looks up at Mazzah with eyes bigger than the mask goggles.

"This thing is actually AWESOME!!!!!!"

"We might only want to wear it under certain conditions, though. I kinda feel like someone might have been trying to find me, somehow."

The young mage sighs heavily.

"I think I will go lay down for about the next.....8 hours or so. Thanks Master M!!!"

The Tower of Mazzah

You collapse, he covers you with a blanket and his two geese who snuggle in to incubate you and keep you warm.

I will check a few values to give you an answer to Brother Gamdar's suggestion of 'redeeming' the article so that it removes the ability of Impurax knowing you, influencing you and possibilities like that.
