Vann Hector

Alarmed at the discovery then sensing the room, having not been in use might mean the druid doesn't know about it or cares not to bother with it. So those might be good things.

I guess I am trying to think a cellar, store, crypt area might be worth investigating. I certainly don't want to get into any fighting so the elf will Move Silently (vs 20%) and using his infravision to spot dangers, check out the next room.

I will let Renata and Dalin search this one if they want.

Dalin doesn't like the looks of things in the room but is glad it is showing no signs of use in quite some time. "Hmm well nothing worth looking at here in my opinion. Other than maybe making a quick sweep for traps just to be safe." the dwarf then does heed his own advice and searches making sure there are no traps in the room to set off.

Moorwash Overlook: Duchy of Aerik.

8.40pm:

The trio of rogues brave the dungeon rooms below the moathouse, hoping their explorations go unnoticed and they can find items or information of use. Their 'trade' skills out to the test, but neither would pass the mark. The elf sloshes noisily in a puddle of ankle deep water and the dwarf finds little evidence of hidden dangers. Examining the rack, you can imagine some poor wretch stretched out, limbs displaced. Rusty firebrand pokers and a metal thumbscrew device are hanging on a wall. The roomy laced with cobwebs but the only creepy crawlies are small critters which scuttle away in your presence.

Beyond the rack room is another cell. The walls have manacles attached and there is a large stake in the centre, which by the marks, must have acted as a whipping pillory. A pile of rags and what looks like some old chainmail shirts are piled in one corner. (SW)

A rusty metal door with a small grilled panel like a window is at the top of the west wall. Looking through you can see a short corridor that ends in a set of bars, maybe an iron gate. A door is on the left of the corridor. It is quiet beyond, damp and cold. The trickle of leaking water permeating from above makes the place less than cheerful.

Unless you can pick the lock or somehow break down a reinforced iron door, your progress to explore may come to a halt here.

Dalin and Vann. You can both attempt to pick locks, so you can post that macro if you wish.

Any other actions.

Vann Hector

Takes a few bits of bent coat hanger wire, long nosed plier and clamps to assemble a lock picking rig to open the metal door.

He doesn't want to fail, especially in front of a dwarf. Hopefully he hears a satisfying click.

Before he opens the door he will lubricate the hinge with oil if he has or some melted candle wax.

Dalin waits to see how the lock pinking works out if needed he will be ready to attempt it next.

Moorwash Overlook: Duchy of Aerik.

8.50pm:

The locks in the iron door twists with a satisfying click though opening the door does grate, grinding a rusty hinge and scraping on the flagstone.

Beyond the door, the corridor proceeds for thirty 30'ft before ending in an iron gate. On the left, a thick, sodden wooden door stands closed. The floor is grimy and has various derelict items along its length; some small barrels stacked together, shattered crates, the remains of a wooden bench, an old urn. It smells of rot and rodent droppings, the right hand north wall is covered in a green mossy lichen, water drops down the side and leaks away through cracks in the moathouse foundations.

continue your exploration.

Figuring nothing ventured nothing gained, the elf walks to the iron gate at the end of the corridor. Checks it and looks through the bars beyond. If all is quiet he will check out the door, listening and if not locked and quiet, will enter there.

Dalin sticks with Vann, helping check for traps and the like along the way and follows him through the now unlocked gate.

Moorwash Overlook: Duchy of Aerik.

8.55pm:

The trio advance, checking out a dungeon cellar below the moathouse ground floor. After going down the secret stairs and through a derelict torture cell, they wander a short corridor.

Vann Hector barges the side door in the corridor which opens into a small 10 x 20'ft room. It has the appearance of being a previous guard type room with a bunk set to one side and an old round topped wooden chest in one corner. Hanging in the wall is a large, leather handled flail with two chains that end in spiked metal balls. An old flip page calendar with scantily clad figures in pinned on the back of the door. There is a rotten desk in one corner.

Dalin follows behind and checks out the next wrought gate which bars their way. It is unlocked, just bolted shut. You reach to move s bolt and see that wrapping itself around the bars from the ground floor and climbing up between the bars is a large snake, which hisses alarmingly at the dwarf that has surprised it.

Renata, holding a candle for light follows behind you both.

next actions please and if you want to attack the snake you can do a surprise round upon it.

Vann Hector

Whistles at the calendar before tossing it in a corner. The flail looks interesting though not as weapon he could feasibly use. Still if it looks like it may fetch a reasonable resale price he will take it off the wall.

I will check the desk and chest, lifting it open at the point of my sword if it is not locked. If locked he will try to pick it.

Dalin moves away from the snake not wishing to attack a critter in its own habitat.

Moorwash Overlook: Duchy of Aerik.

9.05pm:

The snakes hisses and slithers around the bars of the iron gate at the end of the corridor. The gate could be opened but that puts you in harms way and arms length of the serpent.

Dalin withdraws from a confrontation with the creature but unless you deal with it as a threat in some way, your progress to explore the chambers underneath the moathouse will end here.

Vann Hector takes the thuggish flail off the wall. It is heavy, it gives it a few practice swings in the air, the chains whip the spiked heads around with force. You can imagine some serious clout contained in the iron balls and certainly its martial ability to reach over a shield and bash someone's skull to smithereens.

Inside the chest is a shirt of mail. The intricate ring pieces are tightly woven and though the links have quite a thickness, the material is light and flexible.

next actions please.

Vann Hector

"Here, try this on for size."

Having roped the guys into an expedition that has turned into something else, he kind of feels a bit guilty that he couldn't keep things on track. Still the rescue of the prisoner might lead to a greater reward. It sounds just as risky as walking through the bullywug homelands looking for dead or captured rangers.

"What do you think Dalin. Explore a bit more or go back above?"

Dalin shrugs "Not sure what kinds of rewards can be found down here but maybe if we can bypass that snake I'd rather not slay something that is in it's home down here, just so we can keep hunting for rewards Vann. But waiting up there was a bit maddening with nothing to do."

"Renata, you must have been here before. Tell us about this place and if this Bjornark and Miss Azul can be trusted?
What are we really getting in to here?"

He prods the fugitive rogue for a bit more info then suggests that we return back. He would like to explore a bit more but if our absence is discovered that might just complicate already tense relations.

Moorwash Overlook: Duchy of Aerik.

9.30pm:

The decision is taken to return upstairs, going back through the two cells rooms and up the secret steps. The secret portals at the top and bottom both managed to be slid back into closed positions.

Rondahl and Dawg Dann report no interference or checking upon you. The exploring trio have little to report regarding their subterranean exploration save for a couple of pieces of left behind loot.

You rehearse plans and strategies for the hijack if the prison coach and release of the prisoner, talking into the night.

In response to previous questions, Renata shares that she know little of the Moorwash Overlook stronghold. "It was ruined centuries ago and left derelict. The druid took it over and it became something of a refuge for my comrade-in-arms as the Duchy militia have too few resources to siege the place.

At points in our history's, both Bjornark and I owe each other our lives. I would say we have mutual respect and trust. I wouldn't choose to betray that but neither do I follow blindly."

At some point during the night, one if the were-youth comes with a silver tray and three glazed flasks containing 'the healing liqueur'. You swaff two of the Potions of Extra Healing, regaining health as follows and decide to take the third with you on the next endeavour.

Renata +5hp
Vann +6hp
Dalin +4hp
Dawg Dann +2hp
Rondahl +1hp

I will take any more questions or actions here and will update next to the hijack scenario.

I am fine with bunking down. I don't think we need to organise a security watch.

Adjust sheet to reflect hp. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

The road to Ironguard. Duchy of Aerik.

07.30am: Cloudy, light breeze.

Committed (or rather press-ganged) into helping a 'mad druid' and his werewolf associates break a prisoner free from a penal stagecoach, the group set about the preliminaries. You have been 'healed up' in exchange for your help on the raid.

Rondahl is staying at the ruined moathouse. Supposedly a 'house guest', but more like a hostage to your endeavours success. Though his fate may be unclear if you fail to succeed despite your best attempts. Maybe not best to think on what possibilities lie ahead for him, you have enough to deal with.

Your two horses are doubled mounted, Renata and Dalin on one, Vann Hector and Dawg Dann on the other. Your objective very simple. Stop the coach, break free the prisoner Reisling, bring him back to the ruin.

Bjornark greets you in the Moathouse courtyard. A hawk flies from the tower rafters to perch upon an outstretched arm. He feeds it some morsel then it flies off. "Lady Azul
has sent her boys to harass the penal coach as it leaves the Bogtown gaol. The militia should hold ranks on the Old Dwarf Bridge to prevent the boys passing over. That will give chance for the coach to make distance and thus be more vulnerable to hijack en route to Ironguard."

Renata says a few words regarding the prisoner you hope to spring. None are complimentary. With little else to say the quartet leave.

The few miles across country from the banks of the Moorwash to the trail go without mishap. You pass grazing herds of roebuck and a predatory group of stalking raptors hiding in the long grasses.

After an hour along the trail you come to stretch between bridge and Motte. The trade route is well worn here and wide enough for a carriage and horses abreast. It winds along the foot of the forested hillsides which are covered in pine trees that climb up the rocky inclines to the north and east. On the left the land flattens as it forms the flood plain of the river. There are many places brigands could hide to waylay unwary travellers though those merchants you have passed along the road speak of no trouble lately.

It becomes a case of picking a suitable spot and deciding how to hijack the coach and make good your escape.

give me any actions such as 'prepare fallen tree roadblock' or search for a likely rockfall point. Any one acting as an outrider to scout the road a head, look for a tree overhanging you may jump from, etc.
