Theraxx

"Why would yer apprentice go off chasin' dwarves if ye do not approve" - Theraxx blurted - "If I may be askin'" - he added - "Was it ta find this lizardmen camp ye speak about? And they just left him behind?" - the dwarf continued - "I mean, we dwarves have a lot of nasty things to us, I be knowin' dat. But leavin' someone behind in a scuffle is not one I have ever seen happenin'"

Valeron's Cottage
"Was it ta find this lizardmen camp ye speak about? And they just left him behind?"
"I don't know the Truth of it and your kinsfolk are quite liberal with stories. Certainly they abandoned the camp very quickly, the Saurons too, packing some gear, leaving much behind and heading back to their tribal lands."

He says in response. You get the impression that either he didn't approve or was not aware his apprentice was involved. "He had gone chiefly to the Barrow Mounds to accompany a church quest that seems to have stirred a hornet's nest. Or a demon's. I am sure the recent execution of the Nergalites and the Wight driven stampede were connected. I heard rumours of a demon riding upon a giant beetle before a swarm of rabid coleoptera. You can find their carcasses on the trail."

He gives a few snippets of information but much is speculation.

Valeron's Cottage

Listens, thanking the bowyer for his gift. Deciding not to irk Valeron with any inter-race politics, she is fine thanking him for his information and taking her leave.

"We could check out the abandoned camp?" she offers to Theraxx figuring either 'exploring the forest in sesrch of Kobolds' is as equally dangerous as 'the Barrow Moor in search of Lizardmen and lost rangers'.

We can choose later. Let us both go to the Axe and Anvil Forge and see what else can be gathered, it might help us decide on which direction to explore.

Valeron's Cottage
Theraxx

The dwarf nods as Valeron offers some additional details - "Understdood - thank you" - he offered in exchanges, knowing the elf did not have to be forthcoming with any info at all.

Sven, Orgoth & Cadeweed plus associated npc's or Barrowmaze escapees take the supply wagon back to Helix. (including Barba who accompanied Cadeweed and Tamson who was seconded by Vann Hector).

Grumashk will accompany the wagon until it reaches close to the settlement then take his leave for his home region.

The wagon will arrive back in Helix around midday July 12th.

actions post in the Helix location or Barrowmaze Co-op threads.

actually 1st Aid Kits are strictly one per person and limited by availability, hence ongoing 'Spider Silk' expeditions. New characters gain one as a char-gen freebie. You can equip three (Sven, Orgoth, Cadeweed) -75gp.

Elbart

Helix Village Square, Day ???, hopefully a bit before noon

Shortly after the Ironguard stagecoach pulls into the village square; a tall, dun-cloaked man dismounts, rubs his sore backside, and shoulders a pack and a bow. He makes a full counter-clockwise turn gazing at the buildings surrounding the common: first the Chapel, then the large Silver Standard depot, Mercenary Guild, The Axe & Anvil, and the Trade Goods store. Finally the man stands facing the entrance of The Brazen Strumpet past the village well. He looks up at the tavern sign (presumably bearing its name in Common) and his lips slowly curl into a deep frown.

But, having gained a few bits of local information from badgering the coachman, the man continues to loiter in the Square under the burden of his full pack and greenish shield, hand resting comfortably on a leather-capped sword pommel. He hopes the stage has arrived before Noon, and thus in time to hear whatever news or advertisement the Town Crier might be broadcasting. If not, it's time to move up the lane, ignoring the first tavern as he walks past it toward the second...

July 15th 1066.

Almost Midsummers Day. And in preparation for a market, many wagons roll into Helix, the Silver Standard coach bearing merchants and footsore adventurers. The latter easily swayed by the pictorial charms of the inviting Brazen Strumpet, bypassing a tin cup wielding beggar who asks for alms and small mercies on the verandah.

Elbart, new in the village. Surmises the noisy throngs, hawking wares and huddling around the Town Crier for the latest news; births, marriages, deaths. A typical 'hatched, matched and despatched', indeed a funeral cortege is underway, the bell of the St Ygg's chapel tolling the midday hour and the solemn carriage of a coffin for internment in the graveyard.

A quick check of the Bulletin Board shows yellowed and faded adverts, adventurers seeking specialist help to translate, research spells, lift curses. Others just seek mentors for martial skills; those wanting to master archery, oriental unarmed combat, improve strength and agility.

The religious have set a few tracts with prayers for divine favour upon for those wanting a life of repentance and faith. The Town Crier regales listeners with advice on zombies wandering on the far side of the southern Carp Pools, the need for Silk Harvesters (enquire at Valeron's), roving Kobolds in the western Blackened Forest depths and the upcoming 'Cock of the North' bantam bloodsport finale in the Foul Pheasant.

Elbart approaches the crowd waiting for the crier's broadcast, but wary of pickpockets he keeps some distance from the others. He gives the funeral procession an annoyed look, impatient for news of use to the living. He takes note of "carp pools" and "Valeron" for further enquiry. At the bulletin board he looks into what type of linguists are sought, and how fresh the want-ad for archery training appears to be, before moving on from the Village Square.

Bulletin Board, a quick look might see the main interesting adverts have been posted for several weeks. Checking in the taverns, you can gather that any characters who posted 'help wanted' are not currently in town though some general long term posts such as advertising an adventuring guild, labourers wanted to gather spider silk and a note inviting 'peace-lovers' and alternative lifestyle (as in non-martial) to join the 'All Nations' commune festivities taking place near Bresnan's Ranch.

You don't have the focus for the spell researchers though a local mage is looking for relic acquisitors, the Duchy militia maintain a 'Bounty: wanted dead or alive' gallery and the church have a need of further transcription of Lizardmen parchments.

Elbart can take a few flyers and read at his leisure and enquire if interested.

Putting the chapel behind her, Bellatrix starts her own tour of the village. She takes her time, her eyes and ears open to the sights and sounds around her. She’s not above listening in on conversations while picking through merchandise.

Some of the villagers greet her warmly on sight of her tabard while most it seems become wary or turn away. Bellatrix was even more determined to bring the heathen to the one true god. It would take martial deeds against the evil and corrupt that preyed on the good, common folk.

Eventually it came to be that Bellatrix stood before the entrance to The Brazen Strumpet. Her gloved hands curled into fists, squeezing tightly as she considered the name of the establishment. She closed her eyes and offered a silent prayer, asking St Ygg for forbearance and protection from whatever wickedness and vice that might lurk within.

With a long, measured exhale, the Templar headed inside.

You will note that set behind the bulletin board is a gallows scaffold and one if the notices mentions the public execution of two Nergal cultists who were captured in a church sponsored mission to scout an Obelisk atop a barrow mound which was used as a focus for the cult.

The Brazen Strumpet Tavern overflows with afternoon patrons, most swerving the ragged beggar who sits cross legged upon the verandah, tapping his tin cup in hope of sufficiency. A bard strums shanties inside, the ditties tunefully carried upon the wind. They extol anthems penned by adventurers in tribute to expeditions. Vicar Othar has pledged to at least cover your initial respite there after bringing his scrolls.

post your entrance in the Brazen Strumpet Tavern thread. Read the 1st page post which summarises the tavern facilities.
