1922 Kurzu

The crew brings up Kurzu on the Library program and reads:

Kurzu (B-966888-A )

There is a Good quality starport here, with banking, refined fuel, maintenance, and a non-starship capable yard.

Kurzu is around 14,400 kilometers (8,900 miles) in diameter. It has a standard untainted atmosphere (0.75 to 1.25 barr), so the air is readily breathable. There is between 55% and 65% open water or ice on the surface.

Total population is around 500 million.

The locals have a civil service bureaucracy for the local government and Kurzu is a member of the Confederation of Argent. There are no bases present, although, expect to find 6 to 8 System Defense Boats patrolling the system.

Outside the Starport, no weapons may be openly carried, long bladed weapons are restricted.

Kuzu boosts Early Interstellar Technology; artificial gravity, Jump Drive.

The system has 1 Gas Giant, 2 small planetoid belts and 2 ice worlds. All five are outside the Main World's orbit. A hot-house world is located closer to the local star.


Within a minute of popping into the system, your ship is being hailed by Kurzu Traffic Authority, requesting you turn on your transponder (the transponder will report the ship's name, owner, and port of record) and state your intentions in the system.

Shortly there after comm messages come in from three brokers on the surface, all asking about your next destination and your interest in taking on freight and/or passengers.

If your transponder doesn't light up and you don't respond to Traffic Control expect to see one, or more of the SDB's changing their course to intercept you...

OOC: Brent (Matt), then Randall (Greg) is second in command...neither is playing much right now. <sigh> Maybe Hendrick or Adrian could be Captain...or maybe Joxe or Lily. I think we're either going to have to add some players, or the remaining players are going to have to reorganize themselves. Right now it looks like the active roster is: JR, Derek, Terry, Bruce, Bob, and (maybe) Eric. Matt, Greg and John are just plain AWOL.

OOC: That's so long ago, I've forgotten. :( You know next to nothing about any of them, other than you found them in that locked trunk in Akus' storage locker at the Starport at Mark. Just use the real one for now. You aren't really hiding anything and won't really be hiding anything for the remainder of this journey, just staying out of the way of Montrose ships and agents.

Tamaki's highest merchant rank was 4th Officer (IIRC), so while she could conceivably take that position, she wouldn't be especially qualified for it.

It takes a few seconds for the reply, but when it does it is a pleasant and friendly voice, "Kurzu Control, here. Welcome back to Kurzu, I'm piping out your approach vector and landing instructions."

Janet adds, "Oh, and if he's not listening, tell Akus this is Janet Blaine. It's good to see y'all back this way, it's been quite a while."


As the ship vectors in, they receive a comm from a broker named John Jonas asking about cargo aboard and wanting to know where you're headed next so he can "scare up some freight heading that way."

OOC: So, who's going to wrangle cargo now? You might not want to sell the grav belts/bikes here as there is a big tariff on such inside the Confederation. Save them for later. If that's the case, you don't have room for any new cargo or freight. So, if you aren't selling, you could just say you're Chartered and can't do any local business this time. Up to you, though.

As she's been doing for the past week, Tamaki patiently keeps an eye on Paris and her low berth on the way inbound to Kurzu, just in case something goes seriously wrong.

[OOC: Given its decent tech level (10), would the medical center(s) on Kurzu have the tech that they'd need to save Paris?]

Hendrik goes through Akus' journal to look again for any notes on Kurzu.

Well it's been about 3 months game time, but years real time since I was looking at that. Gotta see where it actually is first! I think it's in my email.

And NO Hendrik is NOT going to be Captain; he's a nerdish academic, hardly command type!

The locals seem disappointed, but not much. There is plenty of traffic going through Kurzu so they aren't hurting for trade.

Truth is, you probably don't want to pick up anything here and the grav craft will sell better outside the Confederation anyway, so this is likely to be a short stay, refuel and go.

Paris is in a deep coma at this point. It's likely that they can take Paris into their medical system and keep her alive, perhaps heal her one day, but it wouldn't be a quick thing. You are facing the real possibility of leaving Paris here on Kurzu unless she starts showing signs of waking up on her own, soon.

Hendrick is up on the Bridge. When Joxe finds him there he is seated to the side of the controls going through Akus' journal. Adrian is taking calls from local brokers asking about the ship's next port of call, how much room you have to take on cargo, and about any cargo you have for sale. Brent and Sir Randal are at the helm and sensor stations flying the ship toward a large blue and white marble centered in the ship's forward view screen.

Handing the telemetry to Hendrick Joxe waits to see what he has to say about it....

OOC: The telemetry looks absolutely bog standard. It appears the anomalies only appear during entrance to jump space. You'll need to apply the fixes to the software and add the part that you've 3d printed to the jump drive before you jump out of Kurzu. That should tell you a lot more about how things are going.
