Gorum and Major raised their arms to cover their eyes from the bright light above. They felt a sudden pull and were astounded to find themselves being lifted into the air!
As they looked down they realized that Bubo, Zardoz, and several of his followers were also being lifted into the air.
The giant stone head sizzled and cracked and sank into the lava. Several followers of Zardoz, as well as Zidane the human, perished as the lava consumed them. Their anguished screams of pain were drowned out by drone of the city above.
The explorers floated hundreds of feet through the sulphuric air. They were unable to free themselves from the unseen force propelling them upwards. The underside of the flying city filled their sight. A giant 50' opening appeared as they neared.
Major and Gorum were drawn into an immense bay. They trembled with wonder and fear at the overwhelming sight before them. The Ancients have returned!
The circular chamber was hundreds of feet in circumference and filled with many people and machines that the human and mutant gibbon could only dream off. The place was busy with activity, humans and unhumans and metal men in groups and singly moving about, talking, pointing, sitting at consoles and walls of lit screens and blinking lights, directing machines, operating machines, sitting in moving machines, and other activities incomprehsible to Major and Gorum.
The two were set down inside a 20'x20' area marked off with rods running along the floor. Zardoz and his remaining three followers were deposited inside a separate square. Gorum and Major regained their power of movement.
Several humans and a metal man were standing along the edge, watching those inside the squares.
