Igber

Initiative [1d10]=10

The red haired Rogue steps forward bobbing his head back and forth, then suddenly attempts to dive through Keith's legs to either knock him over or

just take him by surprise. Then, if he is behind Keith he will try to kick his feet from under him then knock him out with his dagger's hilt.

Pebble has heard brave words before - but the size of that hammer coming towards him is something new. It throws off his focus and his sword strike is nothing to speak of.

Dorath speaks up Truly, the blow was struck with no ill intent. That said, I feel I must retire from the lists. I am sorry to deprive Jarrod to his teammates, as he fought fairly, but I must rest.

He's not sorry. This is actually his best shot to take one of the seasoned fighters off the board. A MUCH better outcome than he had hoped for! And he has a cool wound, and at least some think him brave. He hears that chicks dig it.

Traesta was never even close to being the warrior type but nonetheless strikes out again at Yovann swinging mace and raising her shield.

The first round is considered a draw, as Klarven and Pebble both manage a successful strike.
Dorath's wound from Jarrod is considered void as it was because his wooden weapon broke against Dorath's staff; but because Droath will withdraw, so too will Jarrod

Again you line up at the edge of the combat area, and await the signal, without Dorath who awaits near the aids to watch the combat With Jarrod who offers Dorath some iced water steeped with dried mint and tea leaves as a refreshment.
After a few moments, the timekeeper begins the new round.

Keith (#3), Pebble, and Conwenna are sharp, and anticipate the moment and get a good start, but as they charge across the field, Scott meets Pebble before anyone else.

Traesta, followed by Dextel charge the arena just before Pebble and Scott meet, followed closely by Yovann, Harker (who was caught flat-footed), and Igber who suddenly came upon the realization he's facing one of his true fears, a ranking guard of the Dukes forces.

Pebble strikes as Scott comes into range. The strike would be good, but it is useless against Scotts armor.

Conwenna is the next to meet her challenger, Klarven. he feints an attack, and Conwenna moves to parry the blow. Klarven redirects, but Conwenna is cannot counter as quickly, and he again strikes true.
Klarvan attack roll against Conweena [1d20]=17
Conwenna's axe cannot find it's target against Klarven's armor. The spectators erupt in raucous cheers once again as the combative dance is joined.

After Scott and Pebble dance a few more moments, Scott thinks he has found a weakness in Pebble's defense, and pushes. The crowds cry a warning, they are beginning to recognize when the champions have found an advantage.
Scott attack roll against Pebble [1d20]=15
Scotts strike is true, and Pebble cannot avoid it.

Keith reaches Igber not far from the Challenger's mark. His attack is furious, and relentless. Before Igber is prepared, he makes his strike, and easily finds a mark.
Keith attack roll against Igber [1d20]=19
Igber grabs at Keith, but simply doesn't have the strength to complete the move as Keith's strike falls. The audience cheer Igber's tenacity.

Traesta meets Yovann, and they parry a few testing strikes, but Traesta cannot find a break in Yovann's defenses. They continue to exchange fruitless strikes.

Dextel and Harker are the last to enjoin the battle. Dextel realizes Harker is used to much heavier armor, and Dextel exploits this, striking Harker unexpectedly.
Dextel attack roll against Harker [1d20]=13

Yovann finally presses a true attack against Traesta, and strikes with great vigor. Their weapons meet, and wind in a wild arc as Yovann hopes to force the weapon from Traesta's grip, but the broadsword cannot take the strain, and cracks as the reach the bottom of the arc. The new sharp edge of the weapon slices across her leg drawing blood as they fall together.
Yovann attack roll against Traesta [1d20]=1
Damage roll for Yovann [1d4]=3

As Dextel makes a strike, Harker also finds an advantage against him, and uses it, striking Dextel, even as he is stricken.
(#3Ke)Igber 8 move 8

As Yovann and Traesta fall, the Judge signals the timekeeper, and, once again combat is broken. The familiar sight of the aids with their bandages come to dress Traesta's wound, which, like the one Dorath had earlier, is superficial, but still serious enough to require attention. Yovann, realizes the danger, and helps the aids to dress the wound. He is not so vocal with apologies as Jarrod seemed to be, but he is more helpful, and curses the poor quality of the mock weapons again and again.

In summary, only Harker makes a successful strike for your team; but Keith, Klarven, and Scott all secure a victory in this round for the champions. Clearly they are improving their game to meet your challenge, and avoid embarrassing the Duke.
As before, Traesta has the option of stepping out of the competition, and if she does, Yovann will also disengage.
Three rounds remain.
I also wanted to add, I did make a map of the action, but I did not post it because Traesta's injury halted the round prematurely.

Traesta thanks Yovann for his assistance in attending her wound and assures him it is nothing. But she realizes she is barely holding her own against a true warrior so she announces she wishes to withdraw from the competition.

Dorath will attempt some polite conversation with Jarrod, asking about his work, how long he has been in the role, and generally trying to be amiable.

Yovann helps Traesta to a bench in the shade where Dorath and Jarrod, who offers them cold water with all courtesy. Yovann takes some, and drinks it. Both Jarrod and Yovann are pleased to join Dorath in conversation, often interjecting comments about the continuing combat and things they've experienced in their years of service. They seem reasonably polite and amiable.

As you are settled, and the combatants are reset to their marks and prepared, the timekeeper starts the round. The crowd again cheers and jeers, excited for the action to begin.

Pebble, Klarvan, and Scott are quick to the charge (initiative roll 1 each)
Initiative, Dukes Champions (alphabetical order) [_4d10]=(10+7+1+1)=19
Scott & Pebble meet first, eager to trade blows, but they are ineffective as they anticipate and parry each others advances effectively.
Klarvan charges with them, crossing the field before Conweenna enters combat.

Igber is not quite so quick, but certainly doesn't hesitate.
Initiative for Igber [1d10]=6

Harker and Keith enter just after Igber
Harker charges towards Dextel, not realizing Dextel may be preparing some kind of ambush.

Keith enters about the same time as Harker, and meets Igber approximately mid-field. Igber's attacks against Keith are finally effective, allowing him to grapple, but it's useless as Keith's attack on Igber also finds a mark, disqualifying both of them from further action this round.
Igber attack roll [1d20]=18
Keith attack roll against Igber [1d20]=16

Conweenna and Dextel are the last to charge the field.
Conweenna is more conservative in her approach to the battle this time, studying her opponent as he charges her and entering only when he is within engaging distance. Klarvan, however is still able to pull her guard with a distraction, allowing his weapon to find his mark before she can counter.
Klarvan attack roll against Conweena [1d20]=19

Finally Harker and Dextel meet near Dextel's corner of the field. Harker's attack is easily countered by Dextel who anticipated his angle with the wisdom that comes from experience in battle, and is able to use it against Harker, making an effective counter strike.
Dextel attack roll against Harker [1d20]=15

With Conwenna and Harker eliminated, Dextel and Klarvan redirect towards Pebble to finish the round.
Initiative, Dukes Champions (alphabetical order) [_3d10]=(6+10+10)=26
Dextel has the farthest to travel, but he is fleet footed. Klarvan can't pivot so quickly, and Scott is delayed by Dextel's unexpected appearance to assist him. Everyone else has been 'defeated' and leaves the field for the remainder of this round.

Roll for Pebble's Ravenn4544, if you wish to proceed against these (3) opponents, please declare a target, and make initiative and attack rolls.

Pebble hesitates for a second against three opponents! The inexperience may cost him…

He tries to recover and stab the nearest person to his right out of reflex and no real skill.

The two new opponents converge on Pebble and Scott. Pebble makes a desperate swing at Scott as Dextel arrives. Scott blocks the blow with his shield, as Klarvan readies a strike, but none of it matters as Scott finally lands a blow which Pebble cannot avoid, and the combat ends.
champions attack roll against Pebble [_3d20]=(2+3+14)=19

There is much cheering and approval from the crowds both among the peasantry and the royal balconies. All three of the opponents present Pebble with smiles and hearty handshakes. He has earned respect on this field.

Yovann and Jarrod tell Traesta and Dorath that the young squire Pebble has a great amount of spirit, and he would make a welcomed addition to the guardhouse, should they decide to go that route.

Everyone is given some time to refresh. Water, fresh cold and seeped in dried mint leaves is offered for everyone in the field. After a few minutes, the challengers are ready to begin another round of battle.

We have two rounds of victory for the champions, and two rounds remain. Remember, you are not required to engage the opponent directly opposite your position.
Roll initiative and attack rolls for your chosen opponents.
I'm going to work on B1 this week, hopefully it will be mostly ready shortly.
Redwarrior, let me know when you would like to play out the logrolling competition.
Snarkdogg; though the jousting tournament happens later, I will start a new thread for that so we can conclude it quickly as it is mostly independent of the other players anyhow.
Also, Snarkdogg & Ravenn4544, I'll need to start another thread for the unmounted swords competition.
hopefully we can conclude these quickly and proceed to the next scenario.

Dorath will hang back a bit as the two sides come together, before suddenly dashing forward with a wooden dagger in each hand looking to engage the leftmost opponent and get a couple of strikes in before he is inevitably pummeled into submission.

init [1d10]=2
Dagger THAC0=20 [1d20]=14 damage [1d4]=3
Dagger THAC0=20 [1d20]=20 damage [1d4]=1
Off hand is -1, but still a hit! Maybe the crowd will upgrade him just from stupid to stupid brave. Ooof.... But I think I just fouled as well, I think that was on a nat 1 OR 20..... Hopefully they don't think I did it on purpose... Or it'll be a REAL pummeling.
